She wanted them to start off romantic and end up friends, and the starting point is the only reason why amedot became a viable ship at all.

Barn Mates had garbage character writing, it's never explained why Peridot cares so much about getting Lapis to like her and Steven basically keeps pushing Lapis into it as if she's not allowed to dislike someone, then the only reason Lapis gave Peridot a chance was because Steven annoyed her enough.
