Holy fuck! Double amputee Wonder Woman!
Greg Rucka really needs to find some new personality for Steve Trevor. This issue read as if he was Batman-lite.
The issue where Wonder Woman goes full retard. Not even Rucka can save WW.
>>88722123
It's another reason why BatmanWW is OTP
>>88722147
Fuck off. It's just Rucka not knowing how to make Steve Trevor an interesting character.
Trevor's supposed to be a cheeky and bit sexist daredevil character. Not some introspective serious character. Basically a blond Hal Jordan who can follow orders.
>>88722189
Ah yes, i still have (you)
Truly using 4chanX is the best
>13 issues of nothing but retelling her origin story and Rucka going his Wonder Woman is the only one
Will we eventually get an actual Wonder Woman story sometime down the line?
>>88722189
Nobody knows how to make Steve interesting.
>>88721977
I know this is beating a dead horse, but it bears saying: I wouldn't even mind the effort to retcon Azzarello's entire run if what was being used to replace it was more interesting than what was being replaced, but MAN is this dull stuff by comparison.
A few years ago, Chris Claremont had this bizarre little series called X-Men Forever which ironically did not last forever and was cancelled after just a couple of years. It was literally what Rucka is doing with Wonder Woman here: "Everything between the last issue I wrote and present never happened. This is what happened instead. This is the real canon. Ignore everything you read since I left the book."
The difference between that and this is that Marvel had the good sense to just make it its own little private continuity without touching the main books. A little vanity project for Claremont and his die-hard fans, whatever their numbers may be. The actual published stories were left intact and Claremont got to have his "Nicieza, Lobdell, and Morrison never touched my babies" story to tell.
has it gotten any better yet?
>>88722306
Rucka is an autistic cuck. Going "not muh Wonder Woman" was sadly predictable.
>>88722207
doesn't the built in app have that feature?
>>88722247

>>88722306
i never read Xmen Forever, is it good?
>>88722362
yeah but he's usually a good writer too.
>>88722379
>i never read Xmen Forever, is it good?
No. Few okay-ish ideas, but it's just more of Claremont writing X-men like a fanfic. Same thing as with X-men: The End.
>>88722475
is it worse than other neo-claremont stuff?
>>88722306
The thing in Wonder Woman's case is that it isn't just Greg Rucka wanting to write his little fanfic. DC wanted to retcon what they did back.
I feel that DC think they screw things badly with Superman and Wonder Woman. Be it either by doing something different with them, hooking them up, replacing the original creative team with hacks, whatever. I don't know exactly what, but DC has been going crazy with course-correcting Superman and Wonder Woman's continuity.
Actually, like always, the only ones being left intact from that are Batman and Green Lantern.
Man...this book is actually pretty fucking boring. Rucka's last WW run was so good, hopefully he picks it up soon.
>>88722598
we're 6 months in, a year in regular time
how is the book selling?
Azzarello made me a WW fan, but i can't stand to read this, i almost WISH it was bad, because its just boring as fuck
at least if it was bad I could hate read it like I did some of the finch issues
>>88722616

>>88721838
oh, Doc Poison... just in time for the WW movie.
A huge piece of shit... again...
>>88722594
> DC wanted to retcon what they did back.
But why? Azz's run was well-liked.
>>88723678
Azz's run didn't sold much and Finch's run sold even less while fucking with everything Azz had set up. The older readers and some feminist critics also kept complaining about all the big changes.
>>88721799
>13 issues of autistic retconning
Jesus Christ, Rucka, if you're gonna do it, just fucking do it and get on with life. This book is a train wreck.
>>88723705
>Azz's run didn't sold much and Finch's run sold even less
I recall Finch's sales numbers being disturbingly high.
>>88722616
Comparing Rebirth #11 to New 52 #11, it's selling fairly better
But that's because of the double shipping
Considering the average of each month (total divided by 2 issues), it's selling pretty much the same as issue #5 (5th month of Rebirth and New 52)
However, there was a drop of 41% in Rebirth since the debut, while the drop of New 52 until issue 5 was 24%
In the same amount of time, it dropped a lot harder
Considering New 52 #11 instead, the drop was 40% since the debut, so pretty much the same in that regard. But I don't think it's fair to compare 5 months to 11 months.
>>88724252
At the beggining. It ended up at less than 30k.
>>88722189
It's funny that Steve now looks like Ollie but would greatly benefit if he also ACTED like Ollie
But he doesn't
>>88724783

>>88722189

>>88724960
I never got that impression. Yeah, his past run had some Batman presence, but that was mostly because it happened during that little bubble of time between the end of JLA and the beginning of 52 where DC was still pushing the whole "will they-won't they" with both characters.
>>88722080
it's only a flesh wound.

It's like he's picking the worst parts of The New 52 to keep and the worst parts of his run to reuse.
>>88725674
he got a bad case of "not muh"s
Wonder Bump
>>88722616
The Finches' run was badly written and drawn, but the stories had a focus and things actually happened, even if they were retarded
That Hippolyta story wasn't too bad either. Propped up by some better art.
Did anything ever come of Rucka explaining Wondy's various origins, as he hinted at in the Rebirth special?
>>88726599
It's just been him lining up his preferred canon.
>>88726599
I don't think so, but if anything it's likely to be "villains messing up with her head" as well, making different conflicting memories for some reason, while only the Year One continuity is the true one.
>>88726573

Finch's run at least had some workable concepts that progressed the story, like Amazonian reactionaries and challengers for the position of God of War, and a Donna Troy origin that was concise and tied in with WW's mythos and themes.
I've read three issues of Rucka's run, 1,2, and this issue, and not only do I feel like I've not missed anything important for this plot, I feel like I can hazard a guess as to what's going to happen by virtue of reading Rucka's first WW run.
>>88727144
Oooh, what's your spec?
>>88727206
Veronica Cale invading Themyscira with her motivation being underwhelming to the point of questioning why she went through so much trouble in first place. This will be interwoven by him burning off unused or unresolved plot points from his first run as he continues to retcon WW.
>>88721852
Really? He's writing Diana reverting to a childlike state as opposed to the stoic but still kind and strongwilled woman she was in Azz's run?
I mean I get the Finches were garbage, but this isn't about them. This is about Azzarello and Rucka being autistic.
>>88727565
I think people should re-read Azz's run and pay attention to how Diana acts and reacts and the central themes of the whole run (Nature vs. Nurture)
The whole thing is actually quite clear so I don't know how people miss it.
I wouldn't say she was stoic either. Sometimes. But she was vulnerable, she had some outbursts, at the same time that she always strived to be better.
As an example, she's pissed at Orion when he's seemingly betraying the group, but after her initial reaction she tries to reach him. She feels more like a real person. It may seem out of character, but that's how a real person would react, and they were trying to ground her. At the same, she still sounds idealistic when she strives to be better.
It's a complex characterization and I don't know why people miss it and say things like "she didn't have a character". It was simply not something set on stone or a charicature, like the other characters were.
>>88727527
I am gonna screencap tis just in case you are right.
>>88727913
It's because Diana is very low-key when compared to some of her supporting cast, especially Lennox, Orion, and Strife.
What do you guys think would be different if they went with the original plans and had marguriette bennett or whatever her name is write this book, would she have still retconned Azz's run? Would the quality at least be better?
>>88728011
I would say it's just subtle. Like I said, it's more complex and not a charicature like the other characters. Lennox is cocky, Orion is a hothead, Strife is a troublemaker. That's their characters (with few other traits to them that are still related to the main traits).
Meanwhile Diana cannot be reduced to something so simplistic.
Maybe the other characters are funnier or more interesting to see in a superficial level, but they don't really get their characters explored.
>>88727913
>>88725757
>tfw you have fetish for Tacticool women
Judge Anon is that you?
>>88728104
>would she have still retconned Azz's run?
Not entirely. The Amazons, yes. The rest would probably be kept, but not ever mentioned.
>Would the quality at least be better?
Probably not
Also, if she was going to use Steve, he would probably be worse than Rucka's, as seen in Bombshells. That Steve is just so fucking depressing.

>>88726761
Well he did write that Blackest Night issue where Diana said she loved Bruce, but that's the only mention of it I believe.
>>88731048
Geoff Johns pushed for it.
Johns is a disgusting BM/WW shipper. In his JL he constantly had Batman sulking around feeling sorry for himself because of the new couple and Superbro feeling Wonder Woman leaving him for Batman.
This just feels dull. Like others have said, I wouldn't mind Rucka retconning Azz's run to tell his story. With Wondy you gotta accept that nobody respects what the person before them did. But this is just BORING. Veronica Cale is boring, nothing about her design makes her stand out. Poison is boring, they're just dudes with guns. I like Rucka's Trevor, but his Diana is just a wide eye retard who has no agency or drive and just gets swept from one situation to the next.
>>88729037
The Spartans would become straight
>>88727913
I did like her characterization when they focused on her but I feel like the story wasn't character-focused enough for what should have been the establishing story for WW of the reboot.
>>88731609
Rucka's Trevor is awful. He's Batman, but more bland. Him talking about conquering fear, but fearing loss and, fuck, he quoted the same thing Batman said about Wonder Woman during Jimenez's run which is that he didn't needed faith because he had Wonder Woman.
>>88731904
That's just a narrative choice. And as for establishing WW, the thing that was missing was the origin story (both of Diana becoming Wonder Woman and the Amazons), but they knew Azzarello wasn't going to tell that story and it really seemed that it was going to be told by Johns in JL. But it never happened. Then after 3 years they gave Azzarello the Secret Origins story, which only partially told her origin because it was only 10 pages and he was already leaving the book, so better just leave it more open to someone else.
What the run needed was to end with an annual instead.
>>88731953
The problem is that they feel the need to badass Steve up because "Diana must see something in him rite?", at the same time that he can't be actually effective and must still be saved by Diana from time to time, so he just becomes useless Guy McDude
Then Rucka tries to flesh him out and nothing interesting comes out of that
>>88732263
The other problem is that Greg Rucka is trying to please the older readers and feminists as well. So all the characters other than the villains need to be super nice, sweet and understanding. They're all like that.
So Trevor, who originally was a bit sexist and cheeky, can't be that way anymore. Feminists would complain about Trevor objectifying Wonder Woman and urging her into settling down with him. So Trevor ends up just becoming fucking dull.
Like... fuck, the dude is a soldier. He fought his whole life. He lost friends. He killed. He follow orders. Do something with that. Show me a battle-hardened and cynical dude often clash with Wonder Woman because of his nationalism. Show him being slowly changed into a more optimistic person thanks to her. Show them fighting due to their conflicting views about gender and country's loyalties.
Give the relationship some spark.
>>88724869
The Poison Organization is named after it's leader, Doctor Poison. Steve outright says such in the issue. Did you even read it?
>>88721934
>>88721940
>Doing the whole "is she bulletproof" crap and not answering
Fuck Rucka
>>88732512
He says
>She named her organization after her family business: Poison
Did you even read it?
>>88732512
>>88732681
This is not Doctor Poison. It's a descendant of the original if they actually make that there was an original Doctor Poison. It's not Princess Maru.
Which is why "she named the team after the family business". There's no Dr. Poison now, only the team.
"After the events of DC Rebirth, Doctor Poison's history had been altered. In the current continuity, she is Colonel Marina Maru, a Japanese soldier working for the organization called Poison which had been founded by her family."
>>88724869
Are we really going to pretend we care about Dr. Poison?
I agree about Cheetah though.
Why are these threads always filled with Azzfags?
>>88732915
Because most people liked it
>>88732915
Outside of #1s or events storytime threads are generally mostly filled with characterfags, shipperfags, or butthurt. Wondy doesn't have many characterfags here so it's mostly the shippers and butthurt Azzfags keeping the thread alive.
>>88732915
Because there's nothing else to this book
>>88732915
They complain about Rucka writing his wonder woman but spread the gospel of a book where it was the supporting characters that carried the whole thing. Diana wasnt interesting enough on her own.
>>88733577
we already discussed this, plebeian
>>88733577
it's almost like Wonder Woman is not that interesting on her own and needs an interesting supporting cast to help carry the book because that's true for a lot of characters that don't just do endless monologues, including this time, with the difference that Steve is not interesting either
>>88732915
Because Azz's run was better than this one and we're still bitter.
I realized Wonder Woman has now less books than just a year ago
What will they replace LoWW and Sensation Comics with? I don't even know if WW '77 is going to continue or just the crossovers
>>88722379
it wasnt good, interesting at best, but only for x-men fans.
this book is so boring, and it is only making the Azzarello run look better comparatively.
>>88734830
There's Odyssey of the Amazons. Sensation Comics was garbage anyway.
>>88730667
Now that you say it, I would dig a series set on Paradise island before thr Amazon exile. Have them interact with the ancient world and have that, have a huge epic arc where they try to fend off Rome.

Rucka is basically just following the Rebirth mantra in getting rid of the edge-lord New-52 shit and returning the character with a more traditional/objectively better origin. Don't be mad a faggots because you only started reading comics a couple of years ago.

>>88735839
He has to fix the New-52 mess first.
>>88736018
I'd have fixed in a three-issued arc and i'm mostly a fanfic writer who write flash stories about Superman and Batman fucking each other.
>>88736195
Except his hands are tied because he also can't reveal too much about the over-arching Rebirth plot.
>>88736018
Johns already retconned stuff in Darkseid War and the Finches pretty much returned all the status quo at the end of their run
And the Year One of Wonder Woman was never explored in the New 52, so he could write anything in that regard that wouldn't contradict anything. In fact, he fucking used the whole "Barbara was our friend" shit that Johns introduced in JL.
He didn't need to do shit and you faggots need to stop sucking his cock
>>88736623
>Amazons are rapists
>Diana is actually the child of Zeus
>>88736770
1. They weren't rapists, stop being stupid
2. Johns retconned exactly that part. Diana was the only child in the Island.
3. Diana needs to remain the child of Zeus to do that "twin brother" story
>>88736878
Also for movie synergy
>>88736878
Is Rebirth still a child of Zeus? I thought Rucka did away with that since now her powers are all blessing from the gods that she only gained after leaving the island.

>>88737011
Her twin brother is Donna. She grew up with a cock by was raised as a girl.
>>88737054
Since he's ditching everything else and that's the most important part to keep considering what Johns wants
>>88737054
I hope not. Wondy being a literal demigod is awful. Her as human is much better. Less chance of DC using her in "Gods Above Us" kinda of story.
>>88737102
Oh yeah, the clay turned immortal Amazon was totally human
jfc
>>88737120
Not to mention she's always been a good mood from Hera away from becoming a full-blown goddess. Hasn't she already been one, actually?

Man, come to think of it, a "storm heaven" storyline where Wondy becomes ruler of Olympus might actually be fun. It could only ever be temporary, of course, but I think it could be neat. Like a blend of Rucka's old run and HYDRACap.
>>88737155

She gains powers after coming to America but was able to deflect bullets...
