It's weird. On /tv/, they think this episode is GOAT and hilarious, whereas on other forums I've been to, like NoHomers or Dead Society, everyone hates it for being another "jerkass Homer" zany adventure.

Nah, the worst seasons are 13-17. There's SOME improvement after that. It never becomes as consistently brilliant as the classic years, but it becomes watchable, and there are one or two legit great episodes per season.

Same with Homer's Enemy and The Principal and the Pauper. I'd argue that The Great Money Caper is also a victim but nobody likes giving credit to season 12 episodes so I let that one slide usually.

To me it's an even bigger drop in quality than s10, and it's why I think they should go back to the old model of showrunners only getting 2 seasons so they don't burn out too much.

I've noticed this about Simpsons fans, actually.

I know it gets bad, but people seem to act like past Homer's Enemy the show immediately becomes an unwatchable mess. There are still a fair few laughs in Season 9 onwards, it's just that with a few exceptions, those episodes aren't so memorable that you seek to rewatch them.

An episode I am fond of is S11 "The Mansion Family", where home throws a party on Mr. Burns yacht in international waters. To this day I eat honeydew melon over cantaloupe.

Bart get's a F is the best simpson's episode, prove me wrong.

In addition to being shit as an episode, it makes an even bigger mistake because it treats a character's flaw seriously instead of a joke, which destroys them.

Alcoholism isn't funny, nor is child abuse. You can't treat the joke alcoholic as an actual alcoholic.

I still really like this one for as small a way as they did it, it did shake up the status quo a bit. It goes with Behind the Laughter as a good episode for a final season.

the jokes were translated wonderfully, those that didn't work were bowdlerized beautifully into something that the latino people could understand (not only mexican, argentinian or colombian people, but the entire continent). It was basically a work of love; the entire dubbing cast was paid shit.

The first dub is so loved that for latinos the division between Golden/Silver Age Simpsons and Zombie Simpsons is at the start of Season 16 where the voice actors were replaced.

I've always thought of 1 - 8 as classic era and 9 - 12 as the era of steady decline (with some really good episodes and some really flat out bad ones) and 13 - 14 as beginning of the true zombie era (not to mention they went digital in Season 14 onwards). There are a good few episodes per season now arguably more than in 13-17 but there are much more mediocre episodes and torturously unfunny ones.

Lisa goes gaga from Season 23 is easily the shows worst episode whilst at the same time Holidays of Future Passed from the same season is arguably the best episode since the movie.

That last season of King of the Hill was kind of a stinker.

It was lucky Fox cancelled it when they did because the writers were clearly running out of ideas.

Simpsons comics probably never get as bad as the show's worst but also never as good as its best, since a comic based on a product from a different medium is naturally going to be dependent on the original/derivative to some extent.

What's interesting is that they make a point to not use episode ideas from the show, so it's not cashing in on or recycling well-known episodes or anything, The writers on the show also don't read the comics or probably even know of their existence, but there have been a few times plots have lined up just through coincidence.

If you find them for free online they might be worth checking out for the novelty but there's no reason to go nuts and buy them all. I never really knew about them until recently and so to me they have this weird, officially sanctioned fan fiction feel.

We all know who would eventually win but at that point executives and writers were unable to predict how much would a fad last. It's the entire fucking reason we got Radio Bart, an episode based on a real life case almost 2 years after the real life event it was based in.
