It's also a play on parents always yelling about protecting the children, but really just being as self-centered as anyone else. "Yes, that is a concern, but I have Judo tonight."

It's a little bit ahead of it's time in this, as Columbine was two years off, when parents blaming the actions of children on the games they bought them came to a head.

Although all other episodes of The Simpsons have been dubbed and broadcast on Japanese television, "Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo" has never aired in Japan. The reasoning behind this was that a scene in the episode, which shows Homer throwing Akihito, the current emperor of Japan, into a box filled with sumo thongs, was considered disrespectful. There was also a rumor that Sanrio objected to the portrayal of the Hello Kitty factory featured briefly in the episode. The episode has become study material for sociology courses at University of California Berkeley, where it is used to "examine issues of the production and reception of cultural objects, in this case, a satirical cartoon show", and to figure out what it is "trying to tell audiences about aspects primarily of American society, and, to a lesser extent, about other societies"

It's a great episode, but I almost think of it like a ToH episode or Behind the Laughter. I don't think it's ever referenced again, is it?

Look on the bright side, at least Maude comes back as a Ghost in one or two episodes....

Actually that's not bright at all.
>>
>>87999857
There are only a handful of episodes I outright refuse to watch and most of them are seasons 20+. Even then it's like 4 or 5 only.

The Tony Hawk episode was rough, carpenter Marge, Lisa pretends to be a Native American and Bart becoming a wigger had a rough start but they weren't shit...they were bad.

Lisa getting a restraining order against Bart is the absolute nadir of "watchable" ...below that is the complete irredeemable shit.

Lady Gaga, Lena Dunham & Elon Musk episodes are unwatchable because it's just one big blow job to the celebrity guests. Lisa joins a girl-only coder group and Lisa finds out her family not only helped free slaves but that the Simpsons are themselves part African American always reeks of a "look at us, we're progressive" focus-grouped corporate approved message...and I just can't take them seriously.
>>
>>88000642
they really should have just ended the show there
Phil Hartman was one thing
but Edna is Bart's teacher with plenty of relationships across Springfield, especially when they were just using the character for the stupid shit they were doing

I agree. There's more iconic episodes in S8 that everyone remembers than S7, but S7 was all around more good in quality and consistent. This season has like a good episode followed by 3-4 OK ones.

>>88000764
Someone should really put together a guide to the hidden gem episodes of later seasons.

I always liked the episode where a cemetery is placed behind the Simpsons home specifically in view of Lisa's room and, most recently, the non THOH Halloween episode.

...maybe I just like episodes where Lisa acts like an actual human child and not a 48 year old bitter vindictive vegan Buddhist feminist African Native American troubled genius mouthpiece.

It'll never happen on its own cause that would mean they'd have to sit through over 400 bad to mediocre episodes of the Simpsons.

these marathons are the perfect time to do it since there's so many people watching together and it won't be based on one person's opnion of what's good and what's bad..
>>
>>88000866
>Someone should really put together a guide to the hidden gem episodes of later seasons.
I'd be interested in this, if on;y to see what passes for a good episode these days. I think my last episode was the Tony Hawk one, which I believe was the 300th. I haven't seen about half of this show. That's pretty far out, now that I think of it.
>>
This Daredevil animated series pilot is great.
>>
>>88000870
Yes, it was bad but I recal the overall message was that Lisa was wrong to discount somebody just because they don't share your opinions. The episode also goes out of its way to show the republican girl to be the more reasonable of the two.

Frankly, any episode where Lisa is not absolutely infallible is always appreciated. Far too often she is portrayed as completely right and justified even when she is a cunt...like the restraining order episode!

One of the Zombie Simpsons Christmas specials was actually a good candidate, and was actually top-tier for a Zombie Simpsons episode. While trying to look up which one it was, I found this Wikipedia article:

>"The Fight Before Christmas" is the eighth episode of the twenty-second season of The Simpsons. It originally aired on the Fox network in the United States on December 5, 2010, and consists of four short dream segments that all take place during Christmas. In the first segment, Bart travels to the North Pole and sets out to get Santa into giving him the dirt bike he has wished for every year. In the second one, set during World War II, Lisa has to cope with the absence of her mother who has been deployed as a soldier overseas. Martha Stewart arrives at the Simpsons' home in the third dream segment, helping Marge save the family's Christmas. Finally, in the last segment the entire family has become puppet characters in a theater show that also stars Katy Perry.

Good fucking God. You always forget just how bad the show got until you actually catch a glimpse or a plot summary.

If we're talking about how the series should end, I've always felt that the ending of the episode We're on the Road to D'ohwhere was exactly what the end of The Simpsons should be like.

And just with a little bit of time, a harmless joke about arguing neighbors turns into an "Oh no they didn't" shock-gag one would expect from Family Guy.

It was a mediocre imitation of the Simpsons. This becomes more apparent when compared to the shows that came after, along with what Family Guy has become.

It was good for a few cheap chuckles but it wasn't anything special.

I'd rate The Cleveland Show higher than the first 3 seasons of Family Guy.

This episode was most forgettable (basically Marge be Not Proud but not as good or memorable), but Lisa the Skeptic (two episodes before) feels like more of a turning point than Principal and the Pauper, honestly. It feels like the first episode that has that awful, preachy, holier-than-thou, always right Lisa that the later seasons is plagued with. It's a better episode than Principal and the Pauper, but it marks a much worse turning point in the series.

This is by far my favorite Homer/Burns interaction.

I don't see how he could ever spend it. It's worth comes solely from what it is, but the second he tried to break it or use it, the feds would have been on to him.
It's not that Burns is spending it, it's that he's keeping the government from spending it.

I thought that kids being newsanchors was actually a real thing as a kid and got disappointed when my school didn't do it.

I'm remembering some kind of show my school had playing during homeroom. We didn't make it, it was something that went out to a bunch of schools. Was some kind of news show hosted by teenagers.

When was the last time The Simpsons actually introduced a recurring character? Gil? The shitty Yes Guy?

Our school did it but it was like, once a week.

Gil always made me sad because to me he was the clear replacement for Troy McLure and all of the other Hartman characters lost when his crazy fucking wife shotgunned him in the face.

>In 2008, the episode caused controversy in the United Kingdom, for use of the word "wanker". The word is first used by Adam Clayton, and later by Mr. Burns, at the end of the episode. While the word is not well known in the United States, it is considered offensive in the United Kingdom.

My only complaints are the number of celebrity appearances and 2 Lisa episodes too many. And even that, Mark Hamill and Ron Howard were amongst the best guest stars.
