skatepark etiquette: GO EARLY OR GO BURLY

old thread:>>2564493

>>
>>2609740
>he pushes along slowly (mongo ofc)
>jumps off the board as it's rolling
>one foot on either side of the board (to the right and left, not nose and tail)
>he bends down
>grabs the board on the right hand side in the middle
>lifts it up and releases it so it flips around back onto its wheels
>hops back on

i'm gonna call it a greb flip because he's such a greb
>>
>Got caught in the rain yesterday
>skated to my car
>bearings next day making this fucking awful sound
>just fucking disassembled, cleaned and relubed em
>did the same for another two sets i had lying around for shits

fucking wew. more work than i thought but well worth it.
>>
Snapped my tail ollieing a 6 stair today.

Is possible it softened after getting caught in the rain for a minute yesterday?
>>
>>2611733
How heavy was the rain, and were you just skating through it?
>>
>>2611733
How old is the board? Probably just cracked from repeated stress
>>
>>2612062
Pretty light, some big rain drops landed on it though.

>>2612403
Only a month old
>>
>>2612418
nah probly not though. if you skated it thoroughly a month ain't too bad.
>>
>>2611024
I gotta clean my bearings, but I don't have any lube, can I just spray them with conola oil after they're clean? Is there another lube that I might have lying around the house somewhere?
>>
>>2612500
they used to use canola oil waaaay back like 70 years ago for that type of stuff. it's not the best and degrades super fast.

hook up the 3-in-1 at your local hardware store. or just get speed cream. i just used 3-in-1 on all my sets, shit works beautifully.

What i did:

>take all bearings out
>throw em in a jar with some all purpose degrease cleaner (think like a less mean 409)
>swish that shit around for like a minute
>scoop them shits out
>use a microfiber cloth to just dry em up, spin em around in the cloth to get the dirt out

at this point you'll notice that they spin way faster but make a bit of noise.

>turn it over on the ball retainer side
>few drops of 3-in-1
>spin that shit around in your hand
>noise magically disappears
>wipe off excess grease with the cloth
>pop em back in your wheel
>bearings with that brand new feel, good 2 go
>>
>>2612521
Can I just use vodka instead of a solvent? I seem to have misplaced my isopropyl
>>
>>2612861
I have no idea, but do try this vodka + canola oil bearing cleanse for us and report back. From the way bearings are structured, I doubt it'll do them any harm that isopropyl and 3-in-1 wouldn't fix.
>>
>>2610006
Looking to get started in longboarding and will get a board from west49, i will most likely replace the bearings, but should the wheels be good too? Anything I should know? Theres no more local skate shops unless i go pretty far, in case anyone was wondering.
>>
>>2613421
don't be such a supreme faggot. just get a regular skateboard
>>
I read the op and I really do want to skate so I'm using an old board I had laying around. Question is, how to I turn my front leg onto the board without eating shit? When I put my back leg on it's turned but my front leg stays straight and when I try to turn it I wobble.
>>
>>2613785
the more you do it the better you will get.
>>
does anyone else watch the nine club with CHris ROberts?
>>

>>
Guys how do I keep the motivation to skate with severe social anxiety and depression?
>>
>>2613858
kek

I didn't know it was ever Monday. I forget to pull my finger from the shift button.

I am currently watching the Don Brown episode.
>>
>>2613878
i just stop skating sometimes and wait until i really want to. it's pretty much the only thing that makes me happy, but at times i don't want to do it. watching videos help
>>
>>2613878
a clean environment ( clean house, bedroom, wherever you specifically spend most of your time ) exercise a couple times a week, each week watch some skate videos on youtube, have an appropriate sleeping schedule and listen to real music. this excludes EDM, rap and hip hop.

do these things and you wont have any excuse for not skating
>>
>>2613970
what's wrong with rap? it can be pretty stoking.

>>2613878
it's not going to kill you. act however you feel comfortably.
>>
>>2613990
it was designed to stupefy, criminalise and homo sexualise black youth. if you aren't black and have fallen for the trap then thats even more so hilarious

>>
>>2614033
>it was designed
No, you're thinking of crack cocaine. Rap is a style of music that originated in African American groups off of the back of reggae and RnB.
>>
>>2614091
was it based on a haitian custom of rhyming?
>>
>>2614091
sure..no one was involved in shifting blacks into down low behaviour. and sure rap and hip hop has been nothing but a positive behaviour on black youth
>>
>>2614122

you write this to be sarcastic, but it's actually true.

Whenever I try to wallride my board gets onto the wall but my back foot always slips off.

Is the answer just more speed? It was fun gunning it into a fucking wall today but it's already sketchy at the speeds I'm at.

What angle do you guys hit the wall at anyway? 45 just doesn't seem to get the tail off of the ground so maybe I need to lean into it more but then the board flies out in front of me. 30ish seems to get the tail above the floor at least but I want more height.
>>
>>2614122
Yes. White people have always kept black people down through ghettos, drugs, and shit schooling. But hip hop and rap weren't designed by anyone.
>>
>>2614166
sure thing buddy...
>>
>>2614166
>White people have always kept black people down through ghettos, drugs, and shit schooling.

i get that this is going to turn into a /pol/ thread but if you spent any amount of time in black culture you'll find very quickly that the only people who keep them down is themselves.

my front foot ankle is sprained a little, I can feel it. The funny thing is that I don't remember injuring it. I have been trying flips more lately, so I think this could have something to do with it. But I work a labor job and I think I 'm hurting it more.

Damn, I swear I remember some footage from that spot. Either it was posted here or it was in a local store's video.

Did they leave a reason for tearing it down? What are the odds that they'll keep checking to see if stuff stays down? If they're only going to check every 3 years or so I guess you get an opportunity to rethink the spot.

You could probably hide a eurogap over some rubble by the looks of the pic. Hide stuff in plain sight ya know.

Nah this is the end. It's been a derelict brown site for years with sodden soil that makes building foundations expensive and difficult. it's taken me months - i had it and lost it. the previous day i was trying them on a street ledge and kept sticking, so i did a bunch of tail stalls. pretty much if the obstacle is waxed, don't try to lean to get it to slide. like 50-50s, just get in and your speed will get you sliding. for a while i thought you had to lean like you would for a fs powerslide, but that's just wrong. think tail stall

i also kind of did a back 180 nosegrind. it's like front nose, just turned a few degrees more and locked in like a reverse crooked grind. the sliding backwards is the hard part. i want to get those and nollie crooks, but crooks are also a trick i've had trouble with for a whlie

it's a good part and I never doubted his skills, but there's something off with that whole "happy kids" thing they have going. It's revive as a whole that puts me off, especially schrock and his half a second of skating footy and then 5 minutes of him spouting horseshit. Plus, aaron is a scientologist. And they never really had to work as a company to make money. They get all their attention fromtrick tips and being nice to kids. Which is commendable on one hand, but I 'd rather skateboarders be gritty. Not necessarily dangerous and edgy, but it's not something clean cut.

Honestly the two better youtubers that fit that categoryare vlskate and & Nka Vids. Nigel is goat for helping and hooking kids up, even if he is friends with the braille guys. Braille for the most part is totally fine, it's just Aaron that I dislike as a person.

I'm 5.2"/5.3" with size 7(UK) shoes. Does a 7.5" width deck sound good? Is it better to buy a whole skateboard or buy the parts and assemble it myself?
>>
>>2627341
7.5is very thin. I'd recommend looking at a 8" deck. It's pretty middle ground and you can move up or down when you come to buying your second board once you've developed your preference. Foot size doesn't really matter, but for context I'm a UK size 8 and I ride 8.25".
In general it's probably a smarter move to buy all the parts individually because you know you're buying good quality. Go to your local skate shop and ask them for advice on picking out trucks/wheels/bearing etc. They'll assemble it all for you and throw in the grip and hardware for free (and probably the bearing desu).

>>
>>2627386

See, I skated from the ages of 6-14 and I have a deck with a really nice set of trucks and bearings at 7.5" and I'm wondering if it's worth the money buying new ones. The only reason I'm buying a new deck at all is because my current one is way too short.

>Be skater in the UK

Not sure if this is the situation in Murca or not, but why the fuck do skateparks get built in shitty areas? A new park has opened up near me recently, and it's in the middle of a shitty council estate filled with chavs and scooters. This park is brand new, and is already being turned into a shit show by the kids who simply treat it as either a playground, or a place to throws coins and bottles around the ramps (seriously).

This isn't a one off situation, this happens a lot.

Is this a thing in the US, too? Are they trying to make an area "nicer" by giving them the opportunity to go somewhere good, but forget about the shit dwelling retards who occupy the space?

>mfw "local" park is still a 20 min drive
>mfw watching clips on YouTube of American skateparks with people using it to just skate with their friends
>mfw I turn up at the park and there's no other skaters, only scooters
>>
>>2630440
Fuck me my local skate park is absolute wank. Every time I go there ther is broken glass, I've seen two skaters there one time in the last year and the other park is too far so fuck england.
>>
>>2630440
This is what happens when you don't have a strong local scene. I'm in the uk too and we have some parks in grim parts of town, but the scene is big enough that there are always skaters using the parks, stopping chavs from taking over.
>>
>>2630451
I'm with you on that one. My actual local park is a complete joke, so I don't even bother with this. This new park in the next town over was somehow built by some miracle, but still gets treated like absolute shit by the local inhabitants.

After being out from skating for about 5 years, I was kinda shocked by the whole scooter craze. Went to an indoor park on a Saturday afternoon, expecting it to be busy, but NOTHING compared to the plague that is scooter kids which were overrunning the park. It's really quite sad how little interest there is for skating from kids today...it's not even like I have a huge problem with people who choose to scooter, so long as they abide by park etiquette and are actually trying to do tricks, but the vast majority are kids who just roll around...and around...and around....
>>
>>2630469
Luckily, I'm close enough to a city with a decent skate scene. It's just a shame that my local area doesn't seem to have any skaters anymore. Used to, but now...only scooters...
>>
>>2630480
My old local was dying big time. Shitty park with a shitty council who wouldn't invest any money into it. Eventually I moved into the city centre and had access to way more spots. My old local got burnt down last week.
>>
>>2630234
What kinda blanks you order from them and how are they?
>>
>>2630440
no matter wherfe it's at, it's always goingto attract "strange" people. It's an open public space, think abou it. It's just that simple. Go and have no fear. Have fun. Be the next Penny.
>>
>>2630440
Bit of backstory, my local park is in a shite area. We campaigned to get it for years and last time I went some fanny had wrote on one of the walls "bikes and scooters only" or something like that

this kind of shit wouldn't usually bother me but the people that campaigned for it and fought for it were skaters... Best part is that there's also a piss drunx logo beside it and I assume it was done by the same people (I need to get pics actually) No idea who done it though since I'm the only person that goes there as far as I know beyond children using the ramps as a playpark. I just don't understand.

To settle what you guys are arguing about, it's not that the chavs are scary, far from it. They're an average age of 15. Being in my 20's, I can't do a whole lot besides telling them to fuck off since i'm not in it for fighting little kids. Anyone using the skatepark to shit about in is gonna be annoying, but unless you understand chav culture in the UK, it's not quite the same as some hippies occupying the spot. You can't reason with a chav.

It's a shame how skateboarding is viewed in comparison to other sports. I agree that skateparks attract strange people, but I don't see the same on other outdoor sports facilities to the same extent.

I've had two 8.0" (I think they're called natural V-cut or something) blank decks and one 8.25" shop deck. They where all 25$ at the time of the purchase and came with free griptape + golden state overnight shipping. The boards hold up as well as anything and have as standard a concave as it gets. I have no qualms and they're cheaper than anything any of my LHS' sell, especially with that free grip.
