So I'm new to airsoft. So new I haven't played a game yet. However, I'm an impatient fuck and am already considering gear and such. I have a budget of about $280 (including protection, bbs, etc.). Right now I have 2 paths I'm considering. One is get a cm16 with upgraded hopup and bucking, shitty pistol, holster, vest, battery + smart charger, and extra m4 mid caps off craigslist for like $210. Affter adding in the cost of protection and bbs, this will cost me about $260. I figure the cons of doing this is unless I act now someone else will buy this, so I can;t try airsoft before I buy. I was also considering buying a delta 12, vest, a couple extra mid caps, and protection gear new. This would cost about $270. Cons are no sidearm and more expensive. However, there's no rush to buy. What do you guys think I should do?

So I just joined the army and got station at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, on the island of Oahu. Anyone know what the airsoft scene is like here on Oahu?

'Sup /asg/ - I've been wanting to get a M11A1 for CQB for awhile and I noticed the HFC model is on sale on ASGI for $83.

I've read some reviews and most are all over the map when comparing it to the KWA M11A1.

The HFC is a clone of the pre-System 7 KSC M11 (Also known as NS2 for KWA) . Parts and magazines will be far and few in between since KSC has long moved onto System 7, and if you do find parts then you will pay a bit of a premium.

Is this a good thing? I mean, I've heard they both have the same fire rate and similar FPS, so I think at this point it's all about brand loyalty / construction.

Neither are HUGE investments, but obviously I want something that will last with some care. Most reviews I've read say that the HFC Mac 11 is one of their better guns.

For ~$85 that doesn't seem too bad.

Both will be built about the same and will honestly break in the same exact way. I owned an Umarex TF11 back in 2010, which was just an HFC M11 with a CO2 magazine, and it was pretty fun. CO2 in a gun that's mainly plastic is a pants on head retarded idea though, and after a couple of months I believe the bolt had worn down the trigger sear rendering it inoperable since pulling the bolt back would cause the gun to run away until the mag was empty.

They're good fun, but the mags are a tad expensive ($40 for HFC made ones), and it will eventually break. If you want a cheap-ish SMG for giggles, I say go for it. Just be ready for it to shit out on you down the road.

I have a pkm but its the Echo 1, which i think ia just a rebranded A&K anyways. Yeah the box mag is huge but they're weirdly fragile. I had the lid on mine come out of alignment which caused feeding problems. It does have a quick change barrel and hop up acces which is nice. It has a "fire control unit" controlled by two buttons on the bottom which will increase or decrease rof but it doesnt seem to do much positively or negatively. I blew a fuse on mine but I just bypassed it and it runs fine.

From what I've seen the m60's have more feeding issues than the pkm does. On the pkm the bb hose is internal, so dirt can't get in, and kinks can't happen. From what I've seen, the pkm has the best feeding magazine IF you don't overfill it, and you make sure all the screws are secured.

My suggestion to you is a KJW M9. You can get a few different kinds of M9 from them, so you have some choice between military standard type guns to more civilian flavours.
My own has a serial number stamped on it and a couple of marks that look similar to armoury marks, which is neat, though admittedly it doesn't feature the markings in your picture. It has the ambi safety, though mine at least, lacks the decocker of the real one. Something nice about KJW guns is that they feel incredibly solid and work very well, are usually very accurate for a pistol out of the box, and many of them can use CO2 and Green Gas mags in case you want to shoot it in the cold. Additionally, they take TM parts, so they're easier to service and fix than some other choices.

I have genuinely never seen anyone have that scope on it. Usually, it's just a ACOG or a SpecterDR, and for good reason. I do want a ACOG myself, but from what I've heard, none of the replicas are GBBR friendly and the eye relief is poor, something I'm a huge stickler for.

It's really not. I've got a PT-1 on my AK74 and it feels like it was designed with left handed people in mind. The fact that they make everything out of aluminum is just stupid as well. Standard bakelite pistol grips are far better, as are standard AK-74M solid side folders. Oh yeah, they also use way too much material in their items so they end up being heavier just for the sake of being beefier. The PT-1 is a great example because it has the LOP for a 9ft tall gorilla.
