FIVE TICKETS BOUGHT AND LOCKED IN. TWO MORE GETTING BOUGHT THIS WEEK. THIS IS ON LIKE DONKEY KONG. WHAT'S YOUR EXCUSE TO NOT JOIN THE FIGHT FOR THE GAP?

This year's SMUG Squad Milsim trip will be at Milsim West's The Caspian Gap on OCTOBER 21-23 IN PERRY, GA AT THE GUARDIAN CENTER. Faction will be Cossacks. required attire is at least a track jacket (track pants recommended) over a telnyshka. OD or Russian cammo bottoms are also acceptable if preferred. There will be a group buy from grey-shop for Mockba sneakers and any other Russian gear desired for anyone going.

The goal is to be there and sorted before noon on the 21st to make ample time for final checks and go on last second store runs. So far there are two planned carpools: one coming from Boston and the other coming from Chicago. The Chicago carpool will be able to pick up anyone landing at the Atlanta airport with some modest contribution to gas and rental. The Boston carpool is going at least a day early to get a hotel room to use as landing point for everyone going.

IF YOU WANT IN ON EITHER OF THOSE, OR THE EVENT IN GENERAL, JOIN THE /ASG/ SKYPE GROUP:
skype:?chat&blob=BWX6g5kH-TZod4k0M4IkuJPQCTnNA454Vw3vEdVW7bs4CScPCOJG8xtPNy4BOOweVKrZ8YlLiyCwsML7Njop6Z2IqjvqMSKDMFGIHMn_Py8GzCOuo1UjketdtAlNH8r_ledI8OdYf8HrXycL8IUQw5hFPWjVhF5SLqYk9pbOOD1B9pqXTBXfTrdx0KU2vmQVa5qOaCbhV73qro-p1YH0GurZgqoWeiY

does anyone recommend a WE M4 GBBR for a first time airsoft owner?

i care more about "realism" than i do about competitiveness, but i dont want to spend more money than i need to.

is there a better cheaper option or is the WE m4 gbbr pretty much the best cheap price/value option there is?
>>
>>1433823
Get a KJW instead. Less shit to go wrong.
>>
>>1433835
>>1433823
There isn't much to go wrong on a WE M4. The parts start to go 50/50 after about 30,000 rounds. Once that happens, get a new trigger assembly. Most you could have happen is a crack in the hop up assembly, fixable by a new unit.

As someone with multiple GBBR's, if you are really serious about GBB's, don't skimp out because it's the cheapest. WE's are nice, serviceable, and tons of aftermarket parts, but they aren't the most consistent. As well as the fact, unless you're getting a SCAR-H, their mags tend to have a lot of cooldown.

My advice? Save a little longer, enough to invest in a GHK M4. They're reliable as hell, they're tough as hell, and their magazines are second to none. You can't go wrong with GHK.
>>
>>1433863
The M14 also has some stupid good cooldown resistance.
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone though.
>>
>>1433878
As I recall the M14 had the worst of the problems with cooldown. Mayhaps I heard wrong.
>>
>>1433887
Mine can go through a fully filled magazine in one go with no problems, but I also live in Florida so that might be it.
>>
>>1433924
Up here in Michigan I doubt I would get similar performance. Thankfully though, my GHK 74U can get through 2-3 mags in one fill.
>>

This is my loadout.
Svu with an Evo 3 secondary.
It's supposed to be paired with a gray top and jeans for extra civilian spec.
My only issue is that I don't have a black battle belt setup, so I guess tan will do for now.
All my svu mags are in the large pouches on the belt and the cz scorpion mags are stored on the Chinese blue force gear chest rig and taco pouches on the belt. I also have a backpack for extra storage for tax snacks and bbs alike.

Oh, and I'm not sure if they are, but if they are not, consider going for quick adjustment slings like Vickers or VTAC slings, should make it easier to transition between weapons. Also consider some sort of a retention system, make one from bungees/shockcord maybe, so those guns won't shift so much, as you constantly will have one slung.

Most optics are mounted that high on Russian rifles, it (was) part of the doctrine to allow infantry to still use iron sights while the optic was attached without co-witnessing.

Snubbie/pocket revolvers are pleasant, wish they made variants of some of the Rugers.

how dangerous is propane/green gas when its in a closed room with somewhat limited ventilation?

i'm interested in using airsoft in my apartment room but i would have to leave my doors closed just to make sure i don't bother my roommates.

how dangerous is it to be inhaling the propane/green gas from my gbbr? id probablyopen my windows but the ventilation through those is not that great
>>
>>1435209
It's not like you're going to miss those few years of your life you're going to lose.
It's not gonna be fatal unless you sniff it straight from the can.
>>
>>1435209
Propane, like any other gas other than air, is an asphyxiant in high volumes.
If your room is small, I'd suggest opening a window and putting a cheap box fan in it to aid in ventilation. Also maybe look into CO2 mags if your gun can use them.

Others like the 1P29 and 1P78 still do sit high, but they're just high enough to use irons while staying usable.

You mean these things? I hear they're pretty much worthless. The build quality in airsoft sights is too poor for them to co-operate well together. I haven't tried them out myself, so take it with a grain of salt. There might be exceptions too.

4x32 Acog with Docter sight is something I'd wholeheartedly recommend.
>>
>>1435501
I have a real one I run on my replicas that I also run on my real steel rifles.

It's a Vortex magnifier that I use with my Strike-fire 2, it adds 3x magnification. It's nice for milsim or field games so I can get a good positive identification or look farther, but like

>>1435523

said, airsoft magnifiers are usually quite poor and you're better off getting a magnified optic and just taking non-sighted shots at close range.

Granted I don't know a lot about the electric guns, but isn't the forward assist just a detail on airsoft?

Like, what can it possibly do besides pressing against the serrations on the bolt carrier to push it forward?
>>
>>1436248
I was referring to the spring, everyone says keeping springs compressed makes them break.

Which isnt true.
>>
>>1436252
Oh, that old thing, yeah, that's just retarded.

So what does the forward assist actually do on most AEGs?
>>
>>1436256
It has a spring inside it which compresses when you press it.
>>
>>1436252
On most airsoft stuff, my understanding is the springs are fairly low quality and will actually deform or break under consistent tension.

This is what I've been lead to believe on magazines at least.

So I got some shitter walmart blackops cobra m4 AEG from a liquidation store for like $20, and obviously the thing is defective.

In my hubris, I figured that me with my high falutin' engineering (electrical, mind you) degree could get the thing chugging with just a little gentle persuasion, but I'm afraid I'm stumped.

All the bits appear to be in place. I've 'ad her open, and aside from the gear teeth being full of plastic piston pinion shavings, and the pinon teeth being a little worse for said wear, there doesn't seem to be any obvious issues.

But when I have it together, pulling the trigger gets me the sound of the piston being pulled back most of the way, and then stopping, and then no amount of persuasion will get it moving until I have the whole thing apart again.

It's not the shit fucking 8v battery, because I was running it on 10.5v from a bench supply, and the thirsty little off-brand fucker was eating a good 15A.

Should I try a new piston, maybe? or cut my losses and get store credit?

Can you change the springs on them or otherwise modify FPS? While pretty much every field around here allows for 400 with .25s, at some milsim events they allow 450 with .25s for machine gunners.

While I know FPS =/= to accuracy or even a better gun it would at least be nice to be able to take full advantage.

In terms of being issued by the military? Yes. After the 50s, issuing the average infantryman anything that held more than 35 rounds fell out of favor.

The only thing close I've ever seen are FSB/MVD troops using drum magazines on AKMs but those aren't that common. The Bizon also uses a helical magazine (basically a drum) but again, it's not that common. There are also pictures of North Korean troops using modified AKs with over folding stocks and helical magazines but we have little to no information on those.

In terms of after market/rebel/militia use they're all over the place. Drums are easiest way to carry more boolet aside from a belt feed system.

There are (technically) only drum mags for the 7.62x39 version of the RPK, the 5.45 versions do have aftermarket variants but they're almost all made in the US.

While it "technically" isn't kosher it's far from improbable that there's some kind of drum similar to the 75 round 7.62x39 that an irregular unit might use.

The Russians were rather adverse to issuing drum mags with the RPK.

I added a barrel mounted rail on the "gas tube" so I can add a vert grip. That's really all I did. The rail and scope are just there to troll mostly. It does somewhat help in a very wooded area to spot movement farther out.

Out of the box I recommend the following.

1. Make sure all wiring is firmly in place.
>my negative motor wire came off under fire my first time using it.

2.clean all the factory grease out of it
>the stock lube job is beyond horrible
>I recommend 5000 weight RC car diff oil for replacement lube

3. Put a weaker spring in it
>mine came shooting 450 out of the box. Is fine like that if you want it, but a weaker spring will offer a higher rate of fire and overall smoother working

4. Use an RC car 7.4 lipo for most realistic results.
>shoots 660 rpm on a 7.4v with an m120 shs spring. (11.1 in this case does about 20 a second with same spring)

5. Remove the rate or fire adjuster thing
>it's not that useful. It can cause more problems than it's worth.

some guy at my local field had an AEG with a firerate that was nearly HPA-tier. I asked him what parts he's running and he said "Its stock and only has a mos-fet in it".

Seems like bullshit, or maybe the gun was a very good stock gun, but does a mos-fet increase your firerate?

You obviously dont understand how batteries work.
1.2 is the NOMINAL cell voltage for NiMH, basically the middle.
1.4~1.5 is the MAX cell voltage for NiMH.

Your 8 cell battery has a NOMINAL voltage of 9.2v and a MAX voltage of 12~ when fully charged.

What you have there is a fully charged battery.

Guys, please stop
>>
>>1445027
Wow really?

To be honest, unless you're unloading high-caps for the entire time you're there you don't need a 3300mah lipo. I run a 2200mah 8.6v and a single one of those runs me an entire day on high caps. I pick them up for about £10~15 each.

Also you don't need a battery protection circuit, LiPos have a very definite set of situations where they'll go dangerous and it's very easy to avoid them. Check the cell voltage after every round or game and just make sure it stays above 3v (3.2~3.3v ideally). Charge it using a proper LiPo charger.

It's 2016 people!
>>
We need to stick some Li-Po how-tos in the OP to stop posters like these.

Don't:
>Let a cell drop below 3v
>Let a cell charge above 4.2v
>Short the battery, ever.
>Use or charge a damaged battery, or a battery with too low cell voltage
>Charge a battery above its C rating

Do:
>Check the cell voltages frequently
>Balance charge the cells where possible
>Store and charge them in something fireproof, just in case.

A battery will only catch fire when it gets too hot. This usually happens when the battery is shorted, or if its charged in a very hot area like the parcel shelf of a car on a sunny day.

A battery will never catch fire through use, you can discharge all the way down to 0.0v and it'll sit there just fine, it's only when you try to charge it afterwards that there is a risk.

If you think a battery is faulty, dead, or damaged just throw it away and buy a new one, they're not very expensive no matter which shithole country you live in.
>>
>>1445122

My local field has a semi-only restriction in the CQB village, which is atleast 50% of the total area of the field and where 90% of the fighting is always at so I almost never use full auto. I heard LiPos are good if you want a lot of volts in a small package
>>
>>1445216
I run 7.4v (2 cell) 800mah batteries on my M4 that fit inside my stock tube, on semi-auto/short bursts it lasts at least one or two games. I just take two or three to a game day with me.
>>
>>1445062

Why are airsoft machine guns so much more expensive than any other type of gun? It doesn't feel like you get 2-3 times as much gun compared to your average assault rifle most of the time.
>>
>>1445307
Because they're relatively niche. Not a lot of people want one since in airsoft your average assault rifle can deliver cover fire better than a full MG
>>
>>1445307
You mean like SAWs and stuff? Mainly because of the amount of material used versus a regular rifle.
