Just going to mention regarding variety, you lose out on a lot of flavor by having everyone look the same. Not just based on physical looks either but personality as well. There's relationship dynamics between girls based on their looks. The chubby girl will talk shit about the skinny girls. The flat chest girl will be jealous of the girls with big tits. The tall girl can be self conscious because of her height or more confident depending on which way she leans. The short girl might be jealous of the tall girl. And that's just on the basic level.

Now if you want to make a bland world, go ahead, but don't think it's going to be setting itself apart from any other games like that even if your art is good. Plenty of games with good art go fucking nowhere because the rest of it sucks.

When I said Mermaids i also mentioned Zoras from Zelda which don't have fish tails. I do think normal mermaids and snake girls look nice not adding them for now is more because of technical reasons, they would require largely different animation sets (using the same animations for humans, goblins and giant women isn't a problem but a snake girl would require an almost entirely different set of animations).
So it's just a case of avoiding feature creep.
