If /a/ still hasn't caught on, watching anime is very common with "normies", at least among CS majors. At my uni almost everybody in CS watches anime, and especially with Asians it's definitely not looked down upon. I know plenty of people who watch anime, have dakis, posters, figures, have folders full of ecchi and reaction pics, and they have a girlfriend who does the same thing. The difference is they aren't autistic like so many people who complain here, they have a hobby and they have social relationships.

They're to casual to care I guess. When I said movies I meant going to actual theaters. The anime club at my school has people who meet together to watch and a second group that catches whatevers showing in nearby theaters. Coming up that'll be Your Name and Attack on Titan.

My dad accepts that watching something different, Italian cowboy shows, 40s space serials, Godzilla movies, or even, dare I say, bubbly anime girls is preferable to the grating dating shows and whatever that he keeps watching on primetime TV after work.

The concept of hiding your powerlevel didn't exist when I started watching anime as a child in the mid to late 90s. And given that I was, you know, a child, I had no reason to.

As I grew up there was still no reason to hide the general idea that I watched anime from my parents, because they had known for years at that point. I sure as shit wasn't going to let them know the lewdest shit I was watching, but watching Naruto at 13 or Code Geass at 16 or Index at 18 wasn't something I went out of my way to hide. Unless it was an episode with nudity, anyway.

My mom used to watch Sailor Moon with me when I was a kid and would tease me saying I only watched it because the girls got naked during their transformation.

Everything to do with anime is hidden, I wont even play anime looking games if there's a chance one of my parents will walk in. I tested the waters once by buying a playarts SF4 Akuma figure and my mom asked me why I bought a doll, so there's no possible way I could ever move on to displaying anything anime girl related.

My parents, as with pretty much everything, don't really care. They are about the most neutral, secular family I have ever seen. They raised me with no political, religious, or sexual bias whatsoever. They think my position on romance to be a phase I'll get over, but other than that, my life is mine to live.

It's been almost a decade since that era yet all of you that came after are pretty much some bizarre cancer that aren't actually a part of the in-group.

My mom doesn't really care since I'm self-sufficient and I've never really gone through some cringy irl animu phase. My dad's the same but actually enjoys old shows like the original gundam, macross etc. I think the single reason why they've never tried to intervene is because most of my other siblings are deadbeats.
