Rinsetsua = guy with the pipe. He also has a street name of "Dust-blowing Wind" that he was more famous for.

Wuxia is made of stuff like this.
I think Gen has a true love for it. I can feel his appreciation for the genre just looking at the melodramatic scenes and fancy names/moves, the simple good vs evil dynamic. Kikokugai he used it more to tell a gratuitously dark story while still observing some of wuxia's focus on things like revenge and love. but its short length keeps it from ever really being emotionally resonant, aside from dat tweest. I'm glad to see he's doing something wuxia-style again.

I think people who are approaching this like it's supposed to be some sort of super ultra serious grand epic story either clearly didn't actually see the first episode or are really fucking approaching it from entirely the wrong angle. I mean fucking look at this shit and Pili series in general. Not to knock a cultural tradition but it's bloody hilarious stuff and the script clearly isn't aiming for anything especially highbrow so much as traditional camp Wuxia fare. You can instantly tell they have a prime directive and not a single one of them has ever seen one minute of Pili puppet theater before the way they describe the fast motion, quick cuts and spinning camera angles like it's some sort of novelty for the format. Didn't realize that this had urobuchi as the writer and walked in thinking it would be a generic animated show (only had a text description and tiny thumbnail so I didn't know about the puppets)

Thought it was full cg for a few seconds and then had my mind blown as I realized it was puppets. I have a strong nostalgia for Thunderbirds and a huge interest in ouppetry. This show is well choreographed and written and i'm throbbing in anticipation for the second episode.

The only obvious mistake I could see is that when the girl leaped off the cliff, her face changed orientation when the camera showed her crying. That is sort of an amateur mistake, you are not suppose to change angles when you zoom in like that. Guess they had done multiple takes and the take they used for the leaping didn't match the take they used with the CGI. Otherwise the rest is good.
