Wars in terms of enforcement of ideology are primarily propagated to enforce trade between nations, by installing a friendly government. In afghanistan, for example, the US government wouldn't pay to develop agriculture which would directly compete with US farmers.

I gave this great war mod one final try. Germany suffered all 11 million of those casualties in the first year throwing itself at the french. That line hasn't moved since the start of the game. I had to come back to reinforce the line after they ran out of manpower, and couldn't get more because there was only 40% world tension. I also had to fight Russia, Italy and the Balkans all by myself. I manged to get world tension up by declaring war on romania and greece. But then it's been 2 years and Germany hasn't done shit. At least it's not throwing itself at the french anymore.

Pic shows a range, but based on what I've seen France has at least 600 divisons on the field, and Belgium over 300. Fucking belgium, has million of men on the field.

The characters you put in add absolutely nothing to it for me, I literally can not remember a single character from your last AAR and I read every single post, hemmington, or remmington or some shit, completeley unrememberable. I agree with you to some extent, at least in that in this AAR I tended to pull historical characters out and implement them, but then go on to use them very sparingly, infrequently enough that a sense of their own character couldn't ever really surface. In the Napoleon AAR, on the other hand, historical characters were typically used for either just a post or two or were around frequently enough (the Napoleons, Maurras, Lyautey, etc.) that they were able to really form their own personalities and become memorable independent of their historical relevance. That didn't happen this time around for a variety of reasons, although most critically there was nowhere near the level of governmental stability as the Napoleon AAR (governments, and thus ministers, shifted frequently) and because I had less room to engage in idle dialogue and character pieces, which I frequently used in the Napoleon AAR as crutches because I didn't build enough of a supporting structure for events.

That said, characters always form the basis of my AARs, and if we're discussing the avenues of power (which is largely what an AAR is), if I'm to avoid taking on the nebulous role of "narrator for the nation," people must be included as the movers of events. What the improvement needs to be on my end, I think, is striving to minimize the number of irrelevant characters that are engaged with at any length, and maximize the exposure of important characters to allow them to naturally generate their own personalities in the narrative.

Concerning the last one, I think that polling /gsg/ about each decision is the best move. Playing to the best of your ability will lead to a stomp most of the time, which will lead to predictable and unsatisfying outcomes, imo. Buffing the enemy might lead to scenarios where it is impossible for you to win, with predictability being high and satisfaction being low for that scenario, considering.

Ideally the scenarios in the AAR's should work much like history did, with periods of competency and incompetency throughout a nation or region's history. This should not be done at random, however. Take the arabian peninsula, with its oil reserves allowing the region to become surprisingly powerful in a relatively short period of time.

Also considering the long-term effects of decisions and implications of conquest/losses, much akin to how the molotov-ribbentrop pact led to an unravelling within the USSR which ultimately helped aid its demise, should be examined as well. It helps the narrative aspect of an AAR if these decisions and events are not only realistic insofar as cause and effect, but also dramatically important on a nationwide scale.

I genuinely feel individuals are too lackluster to hold reverence within your AARs, the concept of parties, and peoples, and nations are all viable focal points, but outside of all encompasing autocratic regimes the power of the individual is near enough nil. Granted, the theme at the start of your British AAR with governor generals taking charge in their own right made sense, but rulership of the CPGB wouldn't and shouldn't be as character driven as you made it, unless all power fell into the hands of one man.

I don't think buffing your enemies or purposely losing would improve the narrative. But sometimes the game mechanics cannot truly emulate some situations or don't take accounts for the games limitations or also, sometimes are not entirely balanced. So some small "calibrations" would be nice to create more plausible and sensible reactions to your actions or other world events.

For example in your latest aar you turned most of the world communist without any opposition. It is a problem with vic 2, its ai is a bit vegetative. You manage to turn all the great powers and a lot of other countries into communist regime without ever breaching the infamy limit. That because the way mechanics works you can add the install communism wargoal for free if you are already at war when it can cost as much as 14 infamy when you try to justify it outside of war (same with dismantle nation). It cant be directly fixed but could be more balanced. For example, an event that add a few infamy after enforcing the wargoal. I mean, you ARE enforcing communism by force. This would slow down the expansion of the Internationale and allow other countries to grow and be more ready to resist you without needing more artificial buff

On top of that, even though you try to stay in character and behave realistically, the other countries dont always do. There was no "Reaction" to the spread of communism. The problem is that Vic 2 dont have factions or coalition mechanics. You sometime made adjustments like allying Austria and the Netherlands, but there should have been more, like maybe austria siding with germany when you went to install communism. Because I'm sure the austrians would not sit there when all their neighbors turn reds. They could get an event that make them side with the Germans if they are both monarchies and relations are not too bad and finally that the wargoal was to destroy their form of government. Also the US could have been more proactive as well.

If your morale gets reduced as soon as you enter combat that means they have more morale than you. Your morale isn't actually being reduced when combat begins, it just starts lower than theirs. So for example if you have 5 Land Morale and they have 10 it'll look like your morale is at half when you enter combat with them. If their morale is that much higher then they either have a tech advantage or some OP idea, or you don't have army maintenance all the way up.

I noticed that Temperance League is around and powerful, so maybe under Henderson when it was still the UK it maintained British traditions, then under early Keane it did so as well, until the purge. Then they became a thing during the brief Campbell rule until Mosley liberalized things a bit.

In the other states, it probably varies. One thing that's interesting is that communism in this timeline was imposed top-down, there was no major revolution, but rather a lot of politicking on behalf of the CPGB-Labour Coalition and a lot of military enforcement during the Worker's Commonwealth. So I imagine it'd be a very different ideology, probably less populist, with the 'ivory tower communist elite' popping up a lot earlier than in our timeline.

Probably trash and I'd add that you likely don't want to start with Aztects because tortilla and baguette will tear you a new one as soon as they border you. Adding to what the other anon said, you can usually curbstomp them if you vastly outnumber them. You usually use the first war to break alliances and move armies to their provinces on the first of the month as soon as you declare the war before they're able to raise maintenance to full. This leaves them at half morale for long enough to carpet siege them before the tech difference matters.

El Dorado overhauls the native religions. If you want to play mesoamerican/andean natives I'd strongly suggest getting it.

Conquest of Paradise on the other hand overhauls North American natives as well as the little OPM shitter tribes. It also add the Random New World feature... And that's it. Imo it's one of the DLCs you can just skip and not miss much. The free patch that came with it actually included more important shit than the DLC.

Society varies state-to-state and really depends on the governmental system and how repressive or permissive it tends towards. You're absolutely right about the communist elite, by the way. The vanguard essentially constitute communism in this universe, and they're courting a proletariat which often doesn't even strongly support their views.

You probably want to take the rest of the arab peninsula, and then into Tunis along the northern coast of Africa, and then down into Egypt and along the east coast to the horn of Africa.

You could also think about doing some light (aestethic) expansion into Persia. Rather late in the game (post 1750) you can create custom states. Don't expand further into Europe, and instead create a giant client state of everything west of Constantinople.

Just like in real life Russian-Ottoman relations were extremely tense until the latter's decline during the 19th century.

Generally in any Ottoman game Russia will be your biggest threat. I don't recommend going on the aggressive against them, since blobbing into Russia never looks good, and there's really no point to it. For nice looking borders just hold the Caucasus mountains.

If you look at their diplomacy screen you can see who has rivaled them (Listed as their enemies). It might be worth trying to have friendly relations with them. Enemy of my enemy and all that.

Parliamentarianism was still very entrenched in the early Keane ministry, and stayed that way until at least '09/'10, when the cult of personality and centralized rule began to catch up with the semi-democratic systems of the Commonwealth. After the purges, even though Keane tried to reduce his power, the Commonwealth did begin a sort of slide to hero-worship and singular power under the Secretary, and under Campbell it even went rather moralist with his nationalism. Mosley liberalized again, but not as far as Keane had, and he kept much more central power. When he restored the Worker's Cabinet and purged most of the government he had full ability to control the structures he reconstituted, and he made them largely advisory, without much power to interfere with the Secretariat.

Yeah, although there was some unrest in Ireland and a few rebellious tendencies it's almost entirely pro-British in outlook, or at least that's how I saw it. The Irish were fully accepted in Britain, and those who would want to break away probably would have done so more because they disagreed with the government, not because they didn't see themselves as British.

Marginalized. Bolshevism is seen as a fringe and even dangerous philosophy in this timeline, and most comintern-aligned states wouldn't even harbor him. He could've remained in London after 1907 or he could've decided to go to one of the few regimes that would accept him, like Mussolini's.

few questions concerning modding V2

1. how exactly does one script music to play when specific tag is chosen?

2. what are the parameters available for if=then when picking what song to play?
e.g. tags can be specified, war state can be specified, but can province-controller be a condition for playing a song?

3. is there a way to load into the game and reload the music file so I don't have to exit, re-edit, relaunch, and play to see my changes implemented?

4. what text editor do you guys use to modify game files? personally I use notepad++, but interested in alternatives.
