The overwhelming answer is to nerf Stun Lancers.
Fuck Stun Lancers. Hell, even just fucking decrease the amount of them you see to make them a little rarer than your average ADVENT trooper.
I'd be more concerned about Hoverlids
Finally able to play the game after dealing with an extended amount of bullshit.
I've only got one question, can you save scum with hacking? The bar is filling up different amounts each time, but I've failed this 40% hack 15 times now.
It's bordering on stupidity at this point.
Awww yiss. Should I give it to my ranger or someone else?
>next is flying Berserkers
this release is the pre-release dev mode one, you'll get redscreen warnings all the time since the game is bugged to hell
honestly, I don't think its worth playing the game right now unless you've some top of the line goyware that can get 60fps at all
but I guess with a clear line of sight it's not so scary
>Build AWC first building
>10+ promotions since
>no extra perks
Is the extra perks a roll on each level-up or on certain levels?
I just want my Training Roulette bullshit skills
>Flying Stun Lancers
>They swoop down like hawks
I think melee units in general are pretty badly OP as they stand, so much that the only ranged unit I could as more powerful than them is the Sectopod, if I can't start cleaning on the turn I trigger the pod and if it goes for a double shoot instead of that stupid "let me set up my superweapon" move
>Faceless can pop and melee dash on the same turn, which can easily fuck you over in earlier missions
>Regular Stun Lancers can dash melee you all the way from the fog of war
>Sneks can pull you from full cover and still use it when constricting someone, and are the first unit to introduce the dreaded Dodge mechanic
>Elite Stun Lancers gain an armor pip and can Dodge too, meaning that even a full Overwatch wall if you can set it up has significant chances to fail completely between the Overwatch penalty, the general miss chance from Dodge and Dodge grazed hits
>Chryssalids can burrow out of the ground and melee you, not even on their reveal turn, but immediately on move, meaning you can't even set up an overwatch trap
>Even if you do, they CAN DODGE too, have armor pips, tons of healths, and any unit they hit is going to die very dead unless you have a full Medic with 4 nanomedkits
>That gateway mission jesus christ
It really feels like, whatever they did for it to happen, they rushed the game out of the door still
The camera hangs are all sorts of awful, but the one thing that caught my attention was being pulled out of the map by a viper tongue and having a soldier levitate for the entire mission from a broken cover. Both on the same Blacksite mission
Unknown chance to hit. Building the AWC asap is a must tho. That's free perks when you get them, and they can be devastating if you get OP combos
>half you a-team gets wounded a month in a retaliation
>as soon as they get well they have to go into another one with worse alien
After visiting the AWC my assault can use a heavy exo flamethrower and then fire in one turn
I think the mere fact that melee units can dash and attack in the same turn is broken as fuck. Imagine EW if the Chrysalids or Berserkers could have done that. Add on the Stun Lancers' chance to stun and you get suicidal mooks streaking out of the dark to one-shot your guys even if they only do one actual damage. I hope this shit gets rebalanced or someone makes a mod for it, because it's severely hampering my ability to remain in control of the situation.
Conversely, I don't think it's unfair that the Ranger can do it because Slash is to Rangers what Run and Gun was to Assaults, and RnG was a much better power in my opinion.
Is there anything I need to do to use scientists? They're always marked as "AVAILABLE"
Yep, I love seeing everything crumble before me because I fucked up my priorities.
I used all my intel like 2 days before that shit popped up so I couldn't reveal the secret event. What do? Other option is the guaranteed reinforcements so that's not a priority
Black Site should be done as soon as possible, preferably after making sure a terror mission isn't imminent
The static enemies don't change based on difficulty. The patrols do though. Ideally you want to do it while Vipers and Sectoids are the worst thing you have to deal with
So "I'm not EXALT guys" is doing well.
He did TK one time by shooting a car.
Guys why are you forcing the black troops to sit at the back of the skyranger?
This isn't on
HOW HARD IS THE UFO RAID MISSION?
IS IT EASIER OR HARDER THAN THE BASE DEFENSE?
If you don't have any supply drops or other objectives on the map, head back to HQ and scan for intel.
Which one is Alien Infiltrator?
you click the fucking X
goddamn it's not that hard
Dodge is a bullshit mechanic by all margins, and it's only going to get worse as the rest of your ADVENT units upgrade
>Free miss chance, allowing ridiculous misses at flanked CLOSE RANGE
>Hits can randomly do half damage, meaning even 100 % hit chance units like snipers can shoot a dud
>Only way to do guaranteed damage is explosives, making Grenadiers even more powerful than they already are
>Those units are usually the one that rush you at melee range
Just one tip to deal with them. If an unit is exposed to incoming melee, hunker it down and aid protocol it instead of setting up an overwatch wall. If you have other serious threats, fire at them instead and just hope it isn't TOO bad
A lot easier. Do NOT get yourself revealed before reconning everything and anything, and get a Specialist to disable the console. Also be careful, most pods spawn inside the saucer. Battle Scanners are extremely useful in this mission in particular
This seems good.
Now I just need to give him a worthy nickname.
>last turn in VIP extraction mission
>send everyone to evac zone
>guy carrying the VIP wanders off in a random direction for no reason whatsoever
man i cant wait to play ironman!
>grenades do 5 damage and if they grenade your guys on a roof they're guaranteed dead from fall damage
>shield enemies with 2 armour and for some reason always have a lower chance to hit than any other enemy even when flanked
>ranger sword attacks can miss
>stun lancers dashing from fog of war 10 miles away to crit/knock out your most important squad member
>sectoids outclass every other ranged enemy
why am i even playing this fucking game
Alien Infiltrator puts disguised faceless on every mission with civilians, not just retaliation ones
I'm this guy from last thread. Which one do I click? Are they two different games after all, or is one of them the xpac?
Enemy Unknown is the orignal one
Enemy Within is Enemy Unknown with human enemies and big sweet ass mech units that can punch aliens using rocket powered fists.
I see. What about that dodge mechanic? I remember hearing about it and thinking it'll get to be some serious bullshit
>SURIVIE and destroy the beacon mission
>loose most of the squad but make it
>cant hire more rookies
>Use two snipers + ranger with consealment to Find and destroy the beacon from another side of the map
>the rest of the team beat the shit from enemy reinforcements
Damn i'm smart.
mfw my favorite solider reaches Colonel without any special ability
>rookie does well first mission
>gets promoted, to a useful class no less (no more snipers and specialists pls)
>give him/her the official ufotaliban uniform
>dies 4 turns into next mission
This game is raping my ass so hard and I love it, 5 hours in and the only veterans who haven't died are a Dutchman with John Lennon glasses and a Irish sniperwaifu. Everyone else just gets fucking destroyed and I'm only on the second or third difficulty (the one that says 'this is for xcom veterans')
I can't fucking wait for voice acting mods though.
>A mission that requires me to actually exercise patience and not just go loud at the first opportunity
I THOUGHT YOU GOT RID OF THESE FIRECACKSIS
Thank you. Is the game bound to 30fps? I'm aware it's tactical chess, not shoot-'em-up, but still.
Also, can Windowed or Windowed Borderless be done without limiting myself to 1280x800 / 1152x864? (What resolution even is this)
Fuck specialists they are useless bastards, mine paniced and was useless a whole mission. This resulted in my best grenadier dying. Never again. 2 rangers, 2 grenadiers and 2 sharpshooters from now on.
mild campaign spoilers:
It made me really happy during the cutscene where Tygan says he wants a soldier to get real close to a Codex without killing it and Bradford is just like "we can do that".
it felt like a callback to my favorite cutscene in XCOM
Eliminates a lot of the cheese people relied on
Some of the missions will require you to complete one of the objectives within a certain amount of turns.
To compensate for this, most missions give you concealment, which is a pseudo-stealth phase allowing you to setup an ambush on a bunch of enemies.
Give that wimp a mindshield and he'l be kicking ass in no time.
Who else annoyed by the 2 animations only for soldiers when returning from a successful mission?
back vs. wall - arms crossed - bend forward - slap legs with both hands - look around - repeat.
it looks pretty retarded when 3 soldiers do it in sync.
I got a no-time limit mission after a load of bullshit ones in which literally every non-rookie was hopsitalized apart from a Korean backbench sniper with aviators and I thought 'I'm literally going to take five million years with this mission' and it was the most successful one of my playthrough. No one even got wounded and my Korean guy turns out to be a fucking psychopath who I may replace my main sniper with.
Basically no timer missions are just breathing space.
The drop-down list only gives me 1200x800 at best, though. I'll change the bootup settings, then.
Wasn't sure about the 30fps, but the menu showed me a lock on 30, nice that it's different in-game, then. Thanks, once more.
>medium to high settings
>FXAA / 4x AF
>2 hours in, pretty much stable 50-60
Not gonna say it doesn't needs a performance increase, but what gives that the game runs shit on so many systems?
If my GTX 570 can run it at 60 FPS most of the time than a 980 shouldn't have any fucking issues
Posted this in the last thread but I didn't see it hit the bump cap.
Could a cool anon who has the mods made by Long War Studios (SMG, Leader, Muton Centurion) post the contents of their XComModOptions.ini file? (it's in Documents\My Games\XCOM2\XComGame\Config)
Help me /xvg/, I'm getting too attached to my soldiers and feel the urge to start from scratch everytime one dies.
On another note, is there anyway to copy/paste a colour scheme instead of changing each soldier?
Same thing happened to me like 30 minutes ago. I even cross-checked with other soldiers to see if it happened for them incase there was some special effect I was missing but nope. Just ended up savescumming, and it's the only time I've done it too, despite having a 80% casualty rate because I'm soviet-tier.
Completely disable timer mod that works where?
I want to go fast when _I_ feel like it, not all the time
My specialist is pretty fucking based. He's resisted all mindcontrol/panic attempts and almost always succeeds his hacking attempts.
Good ol' Jake Nelson.
>Sniper ranks up to Major
>Choice between 10 aim & crit if she hasn't moved or +20 aim after using hunker down
>Plot twist, AWC gives her automatic hunker down if she hasn't fired
I still think the aim & crit is the better choice, but I did pause for a moment. Just one.
All aboard for.... Operation Apartheid?
So I just received this update, anyone know where I might find some patch notes?
The second is shit. Your sniper should ALWAYS be firing on a normal mission
This is especially true if your sniper has the skill that gives it a free action after killing an enemy on a lower elevation, allowing you to reload instead of taking a turn off reloading
Hunkering is seldom very useful if your sniper is exposed, since all the useful roof cover is usually half cover
is the base difficulty of this too high? I feel like some of the unique abilities of the Xeno are pretty ridiculous. or am I just approaching this too much X-Com 1 like?
and fuck the time limits. do they ever fuck off or is every mission an 8 turn GG?
The only way Firaxis is going to curb the endless sea of tears from casuals is to do something like
>Rookie: Unlimited turns
>Veteran: 20-18 turns
>Commander: 15-12 turns
>Legend: 10-8 Turns
I know it's not something we want, but casuals buying this game and supporting it drastically affects the mod support/expansion lifespan of the game.
I downloaded the game yesterday and it was so buggy that I literally couldn't play it. Just went to bed and didn't bother with it
Earlier I read up that verifying the game files fixes that shit, so I went and did that.
Brought up 4 damaged files and then queued a patch of roughly 630MB which fixed everything from my end
Might be the same
Not, >>131069747 but is the game locked to 4GB RAM?
I highly expect Firaxis will go around rebalancing everything based on player feedback
They usually do this on the Civilization series once a meta develops, so I don't see why they wouldn't do it here
>Turn counter has nothing to do with the difficulty.
Tell that to the casuals
>BAWWWW TURN LIMITER I DUN LIKE IT, I SHOULD PLAY HOW I WANT
Look at the negative reviews, it's just endless bitching about turn limits.
more accurate to say that it is a late developer's version, the game performs just like the release
however, you'll average 10 red screens per small mission, so don't bother with it unless you're extremely desperate
It makes me want to save them even more anon. I look at the survivors and say "not today, not today my friend."
I had Africa once as well. I've played twice. My first playthrough was africa, my second was NA, and this is my third. Its NA.
All my playthroughs ended with me dying to ADVENT though
You're fucking dumb as shit.
Turn limit severely limits how many "solutions" you have to a given mission, especially later on at a higher difficulty setting.
It's not hard, it's just not fun to be told how to play. Maybe some people want to take some missions on in other ways. Maybe they want to be tactical and creative about it.
There is nothing hardcore about doing it fast. There is nothing hardcore about spamming overwatch.
All turn limit does is limit you to one play style later on. Not a single positive thing about it.
And the game deserves its negative reviews, Firaxis is shit at launching games as usual.
Unless anon lives in the sewers as the rat king, he should scrape up the flerbos to buy it.
The game would pretty much be game of the year if it was 2015 and I'm thinking it will be game of the year this year (unless something better is coming that I don't know about)
You're a fucking idiot if you seriously think having pressure applied to you through a time limit hurts your strategic options. If anything it creates situations you would normally not find yourself in had the limit not been there. It creates unique scenarios you have to work your way out of with minimal losses.
There's a reason professional Chess has a 60-90 second time limit per turn, because if there was no limit all the autists who memorized every single counter move would win the game. It turns the game into quick strategic thinking instead of meta gaming bullshit.
It has potential and a lot of the changes are Great. The Strategic game is much better, aside from the costant interruptions on the geoscape.
But I still prefer Long Dong, I loved the power creep the soldiers had.
Turn limits are generous as fuck though, especially in council missions.
And what "strategies" are you referring to exactly? After the initial ambush the game plays like EW where you trigger pods. What possible strategies besides BREAK LOS AND OVERWATCH are you missing?
>a turn limit is now the same as a time per turn limit.
Good job anon. You keep digging your own grave with your stupidity.
If anything it would be like if Chess had a rule saying "you have to win in under 15 turns"
Gameplay is excellent, optimization is poor so it doesnt run very well, and there are some small bugs. Aesthetics are a bit bland
Overall 9/10, 10/10 if the optimization was fixed
>You're a fucking idiot if you seriously think having pressure applied to you through a time limit hurts your strategic options
the whole fucking point of the timer is to limit a strategic option (the slow, safe OW creep)
I'm going to restart my campaign for the third time as I lost the first and the 2nd I cheesed and savescummed too much
I am going to savescum a little still, since I am not made of iron. At least enough to get sergeant so I can have five squaddies. What I've picked up on and that might help others, bearing in mind I ain't no beagle and this was on commander difficulty:
-Prioritize opening up communications with the area holding the ayy facility. I thought I could just hit the black site to turn back the clock, but for whatever reason I wasn't able to when the bar filled and the countdown started, and it would also take too long to open up communications with Mexico (was in South Africa so I had to open it up with Brazil then with Mexico) in time. Make sure you have access to a facility to smash before the countdown starts, not once it does.
-Make sure you got 10 advent trooper corpses in the bank (and more for the exo or skelly-suit. 2 for one of them if I recall). I had the odd business of being mid-campaign with archons and mutons and codex but no predator armor because of that.
At least for me the facility (not black site) was easy as shit because the map was a Plateau next to the very small facility. And since you don't got a time limit, go slow as fuck and overwatch that shit. In fact, bait them back into ambushes or better cover for you. Think it took me 20 turns on facility or black site because I wanted to take it slow.
-Grenadier is love, grenadier is life.
-"All but one guy overwatch and then break concealment" is great vs one 2-3 man pod. But it is not a panacea for every encounter, and can even be worse than that.
I'm probably just a casual but having played through a bit of the campaign in a few games I honestly can't see myself ever beating the game on anything but easy mode if the balance stays as-is
I just don't understand why it's so much more jarringly difficult than EU/EW on the same setting
They are comparable limits imposed for the exact same reason you strawmanning fuck. Both limits were introduced to stop meta gaming through the outright superior strategies that beat everything else.
You're an idiot as well. LOS breaking Overwatch crawling was what limited strategic options, especially on Impossible. It was THE strat and there was zero reason to do anything else because it had the least risk for the highest rewards.
Jesus christ that was literally the easiest mission I've been on this campaign, and I just straight up went loud and tripped the timer immediately.
Why is this game putting up the "Difficult" rating, is it trying to scare my dumb ass?
But having a rule that says you can spend a year not moving pieces and get to take your opponent's pieces for free if they come close would be perfectly fine right? Not even the guy you responded to but I think it's better you just went back to the older games and sperg out there.
> It creates unique scenarios you have to work your way out of with minimal losses.
It may be down to the mission variety that I've been getting, so many fucking VIP missions, but the timer has been making me use pretty formulaic tactics (move up until I see the first pod, ambush them, work my way to the objective staying in full cover, dash to the evac / mop up survivors).
The one time I got a data retrieval mission I snuck into the office and hacked the terminal fairly easily, but it alerted the aliens who were all pretty close and put me in a much worse off tactical situation than had I worked my way toward the objective murdering everything in my path like normal.
Keep in mind, I like the idea of the timers I just don't think it's fully fleshed out or integrated into the game flow as well as it could have been.
Imagine how easy chess would be if you could just wait for the opponent to move into position
Don't ask for help if you're pirating, there's a billion things that could cause it and half of them are exclusive to which release/crack you used
>I lost a mission
>WAAAAHHHHH turn limits prevent me from winning
Get a grip you fucking women, you're supposed to lose missions, you're supposed to lose soldiers.
If you want to win every mission with no losses and no time limit, play vanilla XCOM on rookie difficulty. Make sure to savescum whenever a soldier dies and try to have two snipers in your team.
I haven't really ventured into many paths yet, I've stuck to one tree per unit (not mixed it up)... I agree lancers are really difficult to face.
I saw some anons posting stats earlier, but they always seem to concuss me at 4-5 bars of health (I think 4 hp was minimum to concuss)
Then why are you looking on random patch sites
Verify the files in steam
Combat ones are amazing, medic is basically a wasted slot in terms of kill potential
Killing an enemy instead of healing their damage is always optimal
>I lost a mission
If you "lose" a mission on anything but Easy, you'll be run over extremely hard by the difficulty ramp-up train
Try to run a Very Difficult mission with thee squaddies, two half-promoted soldiers and one remaining Colonel and get back to me when you recover your campaign from here, especially if all your good armor was lost on your downed soldiers
As explained before, if you play on higher difficulty and in later more challenging missions having a turn limit simply limits your ways of playing the game into a narrow range of possible "solutions".
That doesn't add to the challenge, it just makes the game less open to your own way of beating it. It doesn't add anything, it only removes.
Does anyone else find it strange how people are saying the game is so much more difficult?
Between Grenades and Meme Beacons there really isn't anything that poses a threat outside of a 3+ pod activation.
They sure do. Like actually not making their game fucking garbage that looks like it's from 2008 yet somehow is more demanding performance wise than many 2015 titles.
Or patching it so aliens can't punch through solid walls without even breaking them.
The non timed missions are slow and boring as fuck. I'm happy with the timers they are balanced and if you don't know how to come up with different tactics to solve the timed missions maybe go back to easy mode.
>Playing a difficulty above your skill
>Then why are you looking on random patch sites
>Verify the files in steam
Because nothing else has worked. Verifying files doesn't do anything, reinstalling doesn't do anything, deleting my saves didn't do anything, along with some other shit I can't remember
The distance on stun lancers is the single most OP thing about them, I'd say. I would need to look in the INI to seed the exact number but it seems like they can run the entire map in a single turn. That being said while they are infuriating I can manage them for the most part, but I haven't met the elite ones.
It's a lot more 'flavorful'. EU was ultimately very straightforward and plain in combat, almost like a jagged alliance or some such. Unique scenarios that weren't "Clear the AO" were the exception. Now things are much more complex and varied. Very assymetrical. In EU any mission that wasn't timed ultimately meant you would only lose if you were woefully outmatched by the enemy in equipment. Now you can be outmatched by the enemy in equipment but also outmatched in their unique abilities.
If you havin problems on the easiest difficulty then I feel bad for you son because I got 99 problems on commander.
makes me consider we just haven't learned the new strategies and ins and outs to really work the system.
As for time limits they are hit or miss for me. I'd rather see them increased by 1/4th (8 turns becomes 10, 12 becomes 15) rather than removed outright.
Build from Jan 27, 2016.
Just add -noRedScreens -review to the shortcut... Steam does this automatically so most people do not notice it.
MFW Firaxis jewed all of you all out of 70+ dollars for a "review copy" lulz.
I think I want to fuck a codex.
>As explained before, if you play on higher difficulty and in later more challenging missions having a turn limit simply limits your ways of playing the game into a narrow range of possible "solutions".
The ONLY thing you can't do is turtle overwatch
And that shit literally sucks the fun out of the game and makes it easy
If you want that, well play rookie diff you fag
It does not limit any PLAY-STYLE you goddamn moron
Play-styles do not apply to XCOM 2, a fucking strategy game
The situation you're dealing with is what matters, not your "playstyle" you autist
For example, your "playstyle" might be to have 6 rangers in your squad with swords
Than when you fail cuz that's retarded, you could say
>muh playstyle isn't viable :'(
or you could realize that xcom 2 isn't a fucking fps but a strategy game you retard
Move range for Stun Lancers varies from 12 on low difficulties to 14 on average. I think it goes up to 18 on Legend? Don't quote me on that though, I already gimped my Lancers.
No it doesn't.
Let me give you a simplified example so even a monkey like you gets it.
15 solutions (including the 3 you get with timer)
Probably not, since you'd be considered a retard even among monkeys.
Exactly, it removes the take 1 step overwatch meme and makes you actually be pro-active. There was no incentive to ever venture too far from your fortress of death with patrolling pods with the exception of meld.
Medic skills are very hit and miss
Combat protocol is guaranteed damage, and heavy damage on dangerous robotic enemies. Plus, it takes a while for medikits to really become useful with the Nanomedikit project
Healing wounds doesn't make your soldier recover faster (I wish that getting out of the mission with treated wounds would downgrade the gravity of your soldier's wounds by one). However, some enemies can do lethal damage if you don't have medics, notably lids
Revive Protocol is fucking useless. You're wasting the Medic's turn to have another unit use their turn, and very often they're also wounded and in a bad position. All they had to do was make it so Specialist heals auto-remove effects and it would be on-par with Haywire Protocol, which can save your squad if you activate one too many turrets or Sectopods
The last skill that allows you to send your GREMLIN on a healing sortie seems well worth it, had a mission save from it once. However, it's very rare that your damage is that spread out unless you're hurting, since timers force you to rush the same soldiers and finish quickly instead of sponging weak fire
The main thing with Medics versus Hackers is that healing soldiers is only useful if a soldier was battered and you can't fall him back to take safer shots. Hackers on the other end are virtually always useful on all difficulties, and taking control of a turret can turn everything around
Stun lancers are not that OP if you know how to counter them. Their stunlancers ONLY work if you have 4 health or below AFTER an attack.
A grenadier with the +1 armor perk and health boosting items and chips will be tickled by them. Bladestorm Rangers and flash bangs will fuck them up badly as well
No it doesn't, Firaxis employee.
It looks like a fucking game from many years ago at best, even on max settings.
There is zero excuse for this game to give you the fps it does given how it looks. It's shoddy as fuck coding and optimization.
>supply raid mission
>remember seeing an anon mention he had to do a hard mission with only rookies
>fuck that, from now on one rookie per mission
>fuck it, grab two, can always use more TA-TAs
>first time encountering snake ladies
>this is the result
Had another rookie later manage to land 3 shots below 30% chance and she got promoted
TO A FUCKING RANGER!
>doing Avenger defense
>specialists triggers burrowed chrysalid
>chrysalid kills specialist
>hucks plasma grenade into a group of my own fucking men with no enemies nearby whatsoever
Never Alt F4'd harder in my life.
No it doesn't
What are you on about?
Look at the fucking textures and details on max settings
There's not a single bad texture in the whole game and shit like armor and aliens look incredibly high res
Timer makes sense on defusal operations. But to play devil's advocate (I get more pissed at the time limit on defusal than VIP):
Timer makes no sense on a VIP mission as it arbitrarily forces you to evacuate and lose when it reaches 0 even if you hypothetically have the VIP almost next to the LZ point but can't reach it in time. Yes, Central talks about interceptors - so why couldn't the LZ be at any other open spaced point on the map? It's not as if there is an AA gap literally 40 feet open between the central courtyard before the VIP's prison and the backalley the ship picks you up at.
It is easily solvable with rescue ops - you can call down an LZ anywhere the second you pick up the VIP. Usually the LZ is very close to the VIP but it'll take 2 turns to reach.
It becomes a problem with escort ops since you already start with the VIP. One workaround would be to make escort VIP missions not a countdown to defeat but a countdown to victory. You have to reach the LZ, the plane arriving in 8 turns, and hold off the enemy in the mean while.
>Firaxis jewed all of you all out of $70 for a "review copy".
Still loling about this. Here's proof, cumbois.
>One workaround would be to make escort VIP missions not a countdown to defeat but a countdown to victory. You have to reach the LZ, the plane arriving in 8 turns, and hold off the enemy in the mean while.
I actually like the sound of that. I wonder if it would be possible to implement.
>need to restart campaign
>game puts my hq in north america
>meanwhile in the barracks
dog bless amuriga :-DD
It leaves plenty of option for strategy you sperglord.
>15 solutions (including the 3 you get with timer)
Literally the only thing it stops you from doing is waiting for the perfect fight or running away from fights and waiting for them to pursue you into overwatch traps.
Bring Flashbangs Senpai. It destroys any Zombies/Mind Control the Sectoid has. It also stops [redacted] from cloning herself, and most enemies from doing particularly nasty shit in addition to the aim malus.
Always bring a flashbang.
I almost never use it, but it can get your ass out of a bad situation occasionally.
>its a destroy relay episode
>check the hack rewards of a scanner
>gain control of a random enemy for two turns
>hey why not
>get a sectopod
>a motherfucking sectopod right next to the relay
Easiest gorilla ops of my life
That's my problem with timers. It's not that it makes the game too hard or even severly limits my tactics, it's that having them be a mission fail is the laziest thing they could have done when time limited missions could have made the game significantly more dynamic with shit like that.
It's hilarious watching /xcg/ for the past week. People were watching Baglecuck wreck Ayys, since Monday. And everyone was going, "Oh great the game's a cakewalk, fuck you Friaxis."
Now the game is released and now people are crying that the game is too hard.
>Nerf Turn Limits!
>Nerf Having to Think!
Comon guys, stop thinking like this is EU/EW. The easy overwatch crawl no longer works. You need to use your brains now.
Sharpshooter and Rangers eat Lancers for breakfast.
If you're running out of time, it means your overwatch camping. Stop doing that and push towards the objective. You can fight and do the objective at the same time.
Faceless not really that scary. Give it some space and have your heavy hitters reduce it to goo.
That anon that linked this thread yesterday, I said I'd suck your dick if it helped.
Well, XCOM base used to be 45 FPS and now it stays at 60. In-game, the frame rate only stutters down to 50 FPS instead of low 40s at times.
Whip it out, anon. I'm on my knees.
Might have something to do with /v/ infesting the place like what happens to any general that gets a new game
I'm an old /xcg/ guy and Commander hasn't been anything too difficult. Gonna go Legendary soon
Is it possible to fuck a being that only partially exists in our dimension for microseconds at a time?
Uh. Not sure what I did wrong, but I can't move this guy anymore. I barely started, and he's just kinda stuck there, leaving me 3 v ?? in this mission, only the second one in the game. If I need to extract these guys or something, I'm kinda fucked.
What do, how to prevent, how to fix.
>play EW yesterday because too poor to afford xcom2
>get to a terror mission and go to sleep so I can focus in the morning
>check the steam cards that I got
If you're playing the tutorial it just does not let you take moves on your terms. Just see where the highlighted tile is.
Also just skip the shit tutorial and figure stuff out for yourself. The tutorial sticks you with one shitty specialist instead of four and really bad research options and facilities built
>2 Rangers on a roof
>Shoot a shieldbearer who's crunched up against the wall just beneath me
>The shot hit the floor tile my other ranger is standing on
>She falls down and takes 2 damage
I'm all kinds of mad
>Roll the black site mission
>Have two snipers on the first roof decimating everything
>Move up to the mcguffin building, oh boy ladders, oh jeebus sky lights
>Get them into position again
>First thing the robot inside does is grenade the roof
>One of the snipers is killed by the fall, the other panics and decides to hunker down in front of a snek
It's the second mission after the tutorial, the dude even said that he's leaving this in the hands of the Commander, now. He's worked freely, so far.
Should I restart after completing the first few missions, then? Still new to the game in general.
But you miss out on the best waifu.
On a side note can someone explain in detail how to make specialists useful?
>Faceless dashes into cover on the opposite side of a doorframe from my concealed swordyranger
>use Slash on it
>she runs into the room, dashes past the ayy, runs right across the room, leaps through a window, shins up a drainpipe, runs across the roof to stand directly over it, and then swords it through the roof.
Come on, Fireaxis.
Not even the guy you're responding to, just also confirming this really does work. I need to do more testing in combat, but the base is locked to 60 FPS now. You know how laggy it would be as it zoomed in on the map? Prepare to see it smoothly transition into it just like Enemy Unknown again, only if you follow that dude's thread exactly.
The fix is for Enemy Unknown, it was posted years ago, but I guess it works for a lot of Unreal games.
>plenty of paths inside the building
>a single path leading through a back alley where you break a window and pass through fire
>the fucking rookie decides to pass through the fire and jump through the window anyway and now he's on fire and our cloak is gone
>Xcom 2 no longer supports the 360 gamepad
This kills the comfy.
You seem upset by my choice of entertainment.
I just got the game, it seems like somethind I'd have fun with. My laptop can't handle 2 for sure, and I don't feel like shelling out 50 bucks while I got this one for 6 with all DLC's.
That's probably where I fucked up, I used the rocket launcher to blast away cover on the first turn he got. Good to know I didn't break something else.
Bumping this question.
During my blacksite, when i got to the building I was still concealed
As I had 4 of my dudes on the roof and a Ranger on the bottom floor, a mech patrol does their little walk around as usual.
Suddenly the mech goes apeshit, skyrockets through the roof for 1 tile, spots my entire flanked roof team, goes back down and activates.
1 Grenadier is killed by a Viper pod outside, the other three get full grenade and all fall down. 2 other full health people die and 1 is left on 2 HP.
As they fell down, they get another vision on a Sectoid pod.
Now it's one Ranger and one 2 health Grenadier vs 3 ADVENT, 1 Mech and 1 Sectoid.
It was the best XCOM experince I've had this far.
>Should I restart after completing the first few missions, then? Still new to the game in general.
Assuming your bug unfucks itself and you can continue, just play the game. Worst that happens is that you spiral into an unwinnable situation but that's part of the fun.
>Goto \ users \ yournamehere \ documents \ my games \ gamename \ ...... \ config.
Are you rusing me or have actually never edited an .ini file? Come on anon, show some initiative.
I'm just kidding you mongaloid, I'm fuicking loving XCOM2, even the timers are fine and I'm like 17 hours into my tutorial campaign with like 7 losses. My best ranger got chain shot and will be getting rapid fire, I hope she doesn't die. Also +3 on flanks already means about 13-19 damage on flanks with chainshot alone, with run n gun she can flank kill and implacable kicks in and fall back if need be.
>Should I restart after completing the first few missions, then?
There isn't really a huge reason for you to do that. Maybe consider restarting once you've been given complete freedom over your missions and base structures and shit, so you can really invest in something that feel more your own.
I actually got some decent rolls of the dice after that and things didn't go quite as badly as that. I'm utterly fucked personnel-wise though.
>#I'd advise launching the game and setting it to use what ever settings you want (But again I'd advise disabling AA and AO) as well as setting the game to run as Borderless Windowed, then saving your changes and exiting the game and THEN applying everything in this post EXCEPT this section of the ini
Does this mean if I change the ini and than change settings in game that the ini changes will be overwritten?
Seriously, the fact there's no Welsh, English, or Northern Irish flag, but there is a Scottish one really fucking annoys me.
Is there some random angry Scottish guy in the dev team or something?
>Veteran: A challenge appropriate for players familiar with XCOM
>Commander: A significant challenge for experienced XCOM 2 players only
Why'd I believe these lies? Started on veteran, in August and I've lost one guy. Been an absolute cakewalk.
>easy as fuck terror mission
>only just make it because two enemy pods are miles away
I had to dash two turns in a row just to activate them before they killed the last civilian
>60fps during gameplay fine
alright nice seems to not be as bad as i thought
>rebel base under attack mission
is this shit real what the fuck?
even if i put everything on MINIMUM i get 40fps when i zoom out.
what a joke.
>I know, I'll just sprint the VIP to the evac point
>No need to give him cover, I'm pretty sure I've killed all the Ayys
>Cherry tapping advent and defending over-extended ass alts early on
>Blowing up droid fucks and hacking turrets later
If they are MG oriented holotarget, if they aren't Grenades.
Hell in general Grenades Grenades GRENADES. I went into Xcom2 liking heavy gunners more than engineers or rocketeers in LW, now I am in the cult of exploidy bits.
How are you so fucking clueless?
Obviously it's ini file labeled engine and the one that has things like maxedsmoothed framerate. Have you literally never played around with ini files? Is XCOM2 your first game on pc or something? Literally half UE3 games have this ini file.
Most likely the setting you changed will be overwritten but I doubt most of the items changed in the ini is present in the option menu.
HEAR ME NEWFAGS, YOU CHANGE VALUES OF THESE SETTINGS IN THE INI FILE USING A NOTEPAD PROGRAM LIKE NOTEPAD(NOT MICROSOFT WORD YOU RETARD) OR NOTEPAD++. YOU DO NOT ADD THESE THINGS TO THE BOTTOM OF THE FILE. YOU SEARCH FOR THE SETTING YOU'LL WANT TO CHANGE(EXAMPLE:MAXEDSMOOTHEDFRAMERATE), CHANGE THE VALUE IN FRONT OF IT AND THEN SAVE THE FILE
a lot of important countries missing but we get irrelevant crap like brazil and venezuela popping up as soldiers all the time
i don't think firaxis is worried about proper representation
>Ayys first came in Feb of 2015
>Scottish independence referendum was in sep of 2014
>Scotland is clearly independent in this timeline since there are Scottish recruits that don't have the Union jack flag
>Ergo, XCOM is a alternate timeline, the point of divergence being September of 2014 referendum
>It's all the SNP's fault
Have you guys been rotating squad members? Or just training new guys when someone from the A team is injured?
Fuck actually buying promoted troops though, supplies are always thin for me.
Actually, I was just the one singing the praises for that fix.
>always have 45 FPS on the base
>use this fix
>now it's 60 FPS
>just to test it out, remove the fix, lettings the ini file restore itself to default
>load it up
>it's still 60 FPS
What the fuck fixed it, then? God damn it PC gaming sometimes.
Which should I use?
>buh don't pirate
I don't get paid for another week, want to make sure it'll even run before buying.
>People don't care about welsh or irish or english since they are all basically brits.
canadians are american
north koreans and south koreans are the same
ukraine, is the same as russia lol
sweden, finland, norway are the same country
germany, poland and austria are the same country too
the entirety of africa is one country
>never played any XCOM
>see this thread one year ago, get interested
>start with EW+Long War as my first game
>it's hard but great fun with great depth and seemingly endless ways to play the game
>play XCOM 2 because everybody says it improved upon EW in every sense
So the Long War team actually did most of the work to make it fun I guess?
XCOM2 feels so barebones.
I feel like I have been tricked or rather tricked myself.
>it's got story in it
>HURR COMMANDER IT IS I ZHANG BRADFORD I WILL BRING ANOTHER BATCH OF STUPID SACRIFICIAL ROOKIES TO DIE WHILE WE WALK INSIDE SOME ADVENT BUILDING TO GET YOU FROM A TUBE AND TRY TO LOOK BADASS
it's dumb as fuck
not doing the tutorial is a plus
You should always squeeze in a rookie/squaddie, the amount of exp to train up 1 Sarge could have gotten you at least 10 squaddies. Be sure to use the Gurellia training school for free exp as well
I think 6 is a bit much for these missions honestly. I had one just starting that by turn 3 I had 7 left with only 2 rescued since they were on the other side of the map with 3 pods getting shit on. Than I rush over to rescue them and lose my soldiers to a faceless.
Try reading the post. Chess's meta gamey style of play falls flat on its face when the players don't have an infinite amount of time to consider every option. This leads to mistakes and misplays they have to work themselves out of, which leads to more exciting and competitive matches.
>canadians are american
>the entirety of africa is one country
Can you not tell the difference between a fucking continent and a tine island nation? Only a joch could be that stupid.
Same, for the most part, I went back and did lmpossible EW vanilla afterwards and I got through it alright after a few attempts. Not sure if it was more or less difficult, just hugely different priorities.
I do feel like LW gave a lot more flexibility, the only big downside being the maps were too small for the purposes of the mod.
Plus later on in LW, the innate defence buffs to aliens were pretty ridiculous, as was the pricing of MEC stuff in the most recent releases (considering the MECs were nerfed as to be not as insane as b14).
I love that mechanic more than I thought it would, gives me happy feelings after a rough mission to carry a wounded soldier back on the last turn to an evac and bring them home.
So, I spot this pod less than four tiles away from spotting me at deployment..
At least now you know. Whenever you're asked to look around for ini files for UE games look around in the documents folder as well.
>But the game isn't showing up anywhere in my document's folder
Look around in the My Games subfolder or a folder named after the developer/publisher
I can't feel like playing in anything other than Ironman but a fucking streak of bad luck always costs me the mission.
Fucking sectoid running through 3 non-rooks in overwatch only to mind control my grenadier and fuck everything up left a sour taste.
I really want to like this game but I haven't figured out yet how to minimize risks while being fast enough to complete the maps.
Further I went was like 4-5 maps. in Ironman Veteran and Commander way too hard for me in Ironman.
LW is overrated as fuck
The air game is dumb
The early game is too easy because of non balanced extra options, the end game is too boring and grindy because of artificial difficulty
fuck off LWfags, Firaxis once again did way better than a bunch of retarded mods that thought they had better ideas than the game creators
>tine island nation?
If you're going to seriously, without any irony say that Irish = UK then you might as well start saying canadians = USA.
My point is that it's rather silly isn't it? Either you differentiate between countries or you don't.
pretty sure ireland has a flag in xcomanyway
...And I decide to have a little fun.
This thread has been visited by the Smug EXALT Psi-Op of Success.
100% Shot accuracy and sick crits can be yours but only if you post "Thanks EXALT!" in this thread.
EU is a terrible game, EW is alright, the base game was never balanced particularly well anyway.
It's less that LW is better, but different for people who've already played EW a lot.
stay mad at nothing friend
>And the english and the scots are so wildly different?
Yeah actually, have you never heard an actual Scotsman before? Their accents are pretty much indecipherable to the rest of the country.
Then you have pikeys.
>You have to abuse mines on harder difficulties, that's it
>You have to abuse grenadiers and flashbangs on harder difficulties, that's it.
Archers weren't even that insane, they were just good for taking out a couple of pods a mission if you were careful with LOS.
Who the fuck talked about Ireland? The point about scotland and wales is that they have the same government as england, the BRITISH government which runs the BRITISH army and looks after BRITISH affairs.
It's probably a 1 in a 100 mission damage but units can actually RECEIVE fall damage if something else or someone else lands on top of them. Just killed a snek in this manner and got the achievement for it
this conversation stopped being about Xcom a while ago and has turned into people getting annoyed about flags and nationalities
you see, everyone on the british isles despises each other
not just english either, everyone hates each other in one way or another
so ukfags get irate when people mix them up
it's a bit like the whole canadians getting mixed up with americans, but worse because at least canada hasn't literally gone to war with and committed genocide against americans before (and vice versa)
Holy shit this didn't break concealment
>first mission outside of a guided tutorial is to protect the equipment
>take all my tutorial a-team except 1 rookie
>he promotes to sniper
>next mission, retrieve the transmitter
>re-do the mission and take 3 rookies since it was an easy mission for me and i figured i could just dash out promotions
am i just having weird luck or is there a determiner for how rookies promote?
Snipers are actually a pain in the ass to work with
You can't move them if you want to fire anything, or you need to spec them into Gunslinger and forego actually useful perks like Grenadier explosives or Specialist hacking
>3 gravely wounded on last mission
>not get an extra mental symptom
Do we get loot that was dropped at the end of the battle? Like I kill a trooper and he drops something but he was also the last enemy to end it
