I think its worth it. I was hype as fuck for it this week waiting on it and all.

The game's difficulty is definitely higher compared to Xcom1, its like long war's difficulty was taken as the baseline. Youll get your shit pushed in by the starting enemies, especially the sectoids which can just cuck your shit up if not taken out asap.

So I feel that its worth it, the only legit complaint is stuttering, but i think thats because of the game loading and there is also some weird frame rate drops occasionally at odd times like when using a battle scanner in certain locations, but they havent taken away from me absolutely loving the game.

Well, you could buy it now if you want, give it a try for the 90-120 minutes Steam allows then refund if you get unplayable performance then just keep an eye on it until it gets any patches or improvements.

For what it's worth, my performance while below what it should be hasn't stopped me from playing at all. I get full 60fps when playing, it's just made me dial it down to medium instead of high settings. I don't regret buying it.

If you're asking for an either or, I prefer Implacable. It lets you pull off some flanks you otherwise wouldn't be able too, or lets you get into position to pull off another flank.

Why are you even playing this game if you're just going to remove all the difficulty and spirit of the game out? The timers aren't even that hard, I didn't even know people were seriously complaining about them until I checked the general for the first time today since starting the game. Even early game I usually finished missions with plenty of turns left and have never lost a timed mission.

Just gonna vent my frustration:

When XCOM:EU/EW came out, there were pretty serious performance and stuttering issues. Eventually, people figured out the Engine.ini tweaks that addressed it, fixed it 100%.

Did they ever release a patch to the game to do this? Nah. Then, fast-forward 3.5 years, to their BIG RELEASE of XCOM:2. Surely, they'd have learned from their issues, or at least not made the EXACT SAME FUCKING MISTAKES in their engine.
Nope, same shit. Checking the Engine.ini file, same fucking defaults that are unbelievably wrong. This time, the fixes don't fully address the problem, but they do alleviate them. Why do people defend these literal retards? It's inexcusable to have such a poorly optimized game, doubly so for it to have the EXACT SAME ISSUES.

That's the thing I don't like about timers. in EU/EW if you fucked up and had to take lowbies, you could try the next few missions in extreme defence mode, Lots of overwatch, lots of alien nades and rockets for secure kills.

But with the timer, if you're suddenly out of damage, because you're forced to use shitty soldiers, you suddenly find yourself almost unable to finish a mission because you can't afford slow.

If all is going well, you don't even notice the timer, If you get fucked in one mission, the timer makes sure you're also fucked in the next few mission.

A mod that doesn't fuck everything balance-wise while also giving you some breathing room could fix that by making Skyranger Engines an upgrade project that gives you two extra turns on timed missions. So, I got the first game plus expansions in the current Steam Sale, http://store.steampowered.com/sub/37429/ and am installing it right now. Didn't go for the new one since my laptop probably can't handle it, it being buggy and 50 bucks.

I've read the pastebin and all, but I'd still like pointers on a few things:

-Noob pitfalls that're hard/unfair to recover from and don't teach me anything

I feel like if you had to pay for it every time, you'd be less willing to do it early on, which is usually when the timer hurts most. Making it a research project makes you have to choose between troop survivability, lethality, or improving your tactical flexibility, the latter of which the project would fall under.

Also, since I can't be the only one who loves the look of mag weapons, I think a good way to make them late game viable would be to give them latent armor penetration as an upgrade, letting you choose between raw damage and shredding ability even if your units do t have it. Giving them ammo options where plasma doesn't have them could help too. Then again, I'm still on month 2, so my perception of late game balance could be way off.

This is one of the most important parts of the learning curve so if you don't want to miss the satisfaction of finding on your own don't read: Air superiority is the shittiest part of the game but is also the path to victory, if you spam satellites you pretty much easily win the game
Also, you might have figured by reading the thread but time is on your side, don't rush through missions, better safe than sorry.

Oh man what a mission.
I accidentally triggered Andromedon+2Codex, and a Sectopod+Shieldbearer+Lancer pod.
Then when I run&gun to take out the Shieldbearer, the ranger triggers a Heavy Mec+2Lancer pod.

While the rest of my squad uses everything in their disposal (god bless acid grenades) to take out the two pods, that goddamn ranger takes out the shieldbearer and the MEC pod solo without taking any damage.

Tell me one good reason not to take 6 Rangers with acid grenades on every mission?

The thing with Xcom is that you don't lose quickly, you lose slowly and painfull and by the time you realize you're fucked up you also realize that you were fucked up a long time ago but you just hasn't realized yet.

Also, I only restart a mission when I lose because of a panic-domino that causes all my soldiers to shoot at each other, I think that's bullshit and shouldn't be in the game. Even LW modders agree so they removed it despite the game being harder in every other aspect.

Just did. The AI doesn't fuck around and AVATAR was just completed. And yes. I'm not going to spoil it. I will say this, I should have been visiting the black market and buying shit at HQ more. I kinda ignored that and feel like a retard for not buying more engineers that literally power the god damn ship. I'm going to try the rest of the week to beat the game on normal mode and if I can't I'm going to play it on easy so I can watch the cutscenes.

But fuck man this game is rough on me.

Plated armor massively reduced mortality rates among my soldiers.

It was probably one of the big reasons I was able to take out a black site with a specialist and four rooks. That, and magnetic weapons with really good elevation flanks.

No.. Every once in a while the AYYS will build a new facility. And after a certain amount of time the AYYS will produce a point towards avatar

That delays them from producing another construction fast.

There are some events that produce one or even two points. I had a game over because my squad got wiped out during a 2 point mission (Mind control heavy weapons, used rocket launcher on squad wiping out 3 friendlys then setting fire to the world while everything else bum rushed me.

Then the event triggered and oh fuck....

Can someone give me a general strategy on how to play? I'm just fucking awful at these games. At least overwatch camping in XCOM EU/EW I could pretend I was competent, but now it's either

Stick to the edges of the map and leapfrog your units. If you go into the center of the map you're risking the possibility of triggering multiple alien pods and/or turrets. That's a good way to get fucked hard or locked down for several turns, and neither of those outcomes are good. Use Line of Sight to your advantage, otherwise it's going to be your greatest enemy.

It does lower stats, but I'm not sure if it's permanent. Soldiers become "Shaken" after a mission and have a penalty to their Will. If you send them out on a mission and they succeed then the Shaken status is removed.

I think the cover modifiers are in DefaultGameCore.ini but it's just a basic ctrl-f search if I'm remembering wrong. I used LW's 30/60 and it seems ok.

I just booted a save and you're absolutely right, but quoting a wiki isn't the best argument either.
