No, for all intents and purposes, KSP should be considered still in early access state. The game is nowhere near being able to stand on its own legs both from a gameplay perspective (career mode is definitely not ready and balanced) and a stability perspective. There are still major bugs and memory leaks that shouldn't exist on a finished game.

Modified versions of popular mods are being included in the stock game while the game engine is being upgraded to its latest version. The next major update (1.1) is supposedly going to bring a complete overhaul of the GUI, be 64bit friendly, have a refined physics/heating/aero model and generally perform better. An external team with heavily questionable experience (Flying Tiger Entertainment) is being tasked with porting the game to PS4, XboxOne and Wii U. They seem to be rushing for an imminent deadline and they are also working on a version of the game that will be obsolete in a few weeks/months.

First topic I command you discuss: the failure of Maxmaps to complete the circuit.
I took some poetry classes in college (yes, yes) and for awhile I sat there stewing over the fact that these meaningless words didn’t have any logical or scientific value and that it was all shitgetting sucked out of other liberal arts professors’ assholes.
Turns out, I was wrong. Good poetry, formal poetry, follows some very stringent rules and these rules, when followed, create a “self-reinforcing logic” that permeates the entire poem. The “self-reinforcement” i refer to are serendipity between form and content, multiplicitous use of word and phrase meanings, and meter and cadence that match the subject or topic of the poem somehow.
The end result is a work that does not “tell” you its meaning, but slowly “shows” it after thorough reading and re-reading. The meaning is harder to find, but much deeper.
You’re probably wondering why I’m talking about this. I’d like to use the phrase “connecting the circuit” to refer to this self-reinforcing logic behind good poetry — the moment you add in that last idea that refers to the first idea and create a continuum of meaning. I’d argue that the best games are the ones that also take the time to do this.
You’ll see this often referred to as “self-consciousness” or “self-referentiality” of a work, when a movie knows it is a movie or a book knows it is a book. Likewise, a game must know it is a game.
Kerbal DOES have “self-referentiality” but in a way that will make your blood boil. KSP embraces the “so kerbal” attitude in its own code, making references to the kraken, for instance. In this way, the instability of KSP is compared to the instability of billy’s rockets. Unfortunately, this is not true “self-consciousness” and is more of a marketing gimmick. See Artyom’s momentary rant in his devblog for more context.
So, when I talk about what the “game” is, I’m referring to the thing people think of when they think of “KSP” — some think of a career grind, others think of a barren sandbox — but at no point does that logic link up and create the “circuit” a good, complete self referential work should contain.
For the record, this is what Max SHOULD have been doing during his time as a producer, and you can see he understood it a little bit, as he worked on things like rep hits when you lose kerbals or admin strategies, but again that’s all within the walled garden of career.
My argument is that it’s time to drop the cognitively disassociative game modes and DO THE HARD WORK Max refused to do and complete the circuit so that KSP can move from a neat proof of concept to an actual “ready for release” final game.
I hope this makes some amount of sense. I know it’s just more fucking words, so I will work on editing it all down to one paragraph today.

Like most french cuisine it's built up a lot for what it actually is. It may look fancy and it may have taken a long time to prepare but that doesn't make it taste good.
European cuisine is mostly based on what was commonly available over the centuries, but now that we live in the 21st century we have the ability to raise any kind of livestock anywhere in the world which means we don't have to resort to eating forcefed duck liver covered in cream to feel like we're eating high quality food.
Prime rib takes an hour to cook and all you gotta do is cover it in rock salt, it comes from cattle which is abundant and cheap and it tastes amazing. And you don't gotta smear garbage all over it either.
Foie gras (the "whole" kind, not the mixed, nor the cream) is literally just a slice of fatty liver cooked on low heat for like 5 minutes and served with nothing else. No sauces, no side dishes, nothing.
It's the exact opposite of something complex or that takes a long time to make.
Of course, being an expensive thing and being commonly used in a luxury context, it is included is a huge selection of overly complex and expensive recipes, but that is not what I'm going to do. I like it simple.
If I wanted to cover it in sauces I would have gotten a cheap liver or any other low grade meat and called it a day.
You can eat ribs and be sure you ate some of the most amazing meat you can get your hands on, but this is another thing.
You can't find any other liver that tastes like this, the very force feeding thing is what makes it taste like that.

It has a strange bug with the cursor.
Basically if you want to, say, highlight something or doing anything that requires a click+drag with the mouse, it doesn't move the cursor from where it spawned or where you left it last time.
So, let's say you want to click+drag a sentence and delete it with the keyboard, you will see the sentence highlighted, but once you press the button it will start deleting from where you left the cursor, which will make your screen jump to where the action is actually happening and the highlighted stuff will stay there untouched.
I found that clicking once where the stuff I want to edit is, thus bringing the cursor over there, solves the problem
That, or someone else is editing the doc at the same time, which causes all sorts of weird screen jumps

Full story never released. Look at it hard enough and you can put the pieces together. Maxmaps' spaghettified non-answers, the continued if slowed development of his mods, it's pretty obvious the separation was on his terms.
Most of the sources I just looked for have been "lost" during the forum transition (can't wait for anon to jump on me for that) but there's a version of his devblog somewhere out in the wild that contains a nugget of truth about his opinion of how Squad treats the IP is not positive. There have been multiple works of his that reinforce this notion.
I will at this point note this is all subjective and hearsay and I encourage you to come to your own conclusion based on the available evidence, which is, admittedly, lacking.

Can anyone help me with installing North Kerbin Dynamics mod? The weapons seem to load in but the explosions don't. They pop like balloons and disappear instead of leaving nuclear mushroom clouds behind.

did you read the instruction in the forum thread? did you install all the dependancies, if any?
isn't there an instruction text file inside the zipped folder? have you tried putting the effect folder inside the main mod folder and see what happens?
It opened on a plane with factories and resources. I made some rails between a mill and a city. That was about the most I could figure out.
I'd have no idea how to build an economy with those tools. I did recommend it to a guy who is a real railroad dispatcher though. He probably thinks I am insane.
The main clusterfuck of the game is to understand the logic that handles cargo distribution, that is stupid complex and hard to manage if you have no idea what to expect.
the other thing is railroad signals, which you should really learn to do anything more complex than single point-to-point train lines.
the vanilla game is pretty basic tho, super comfy for a beginner.
I assume you stopped playing so I don't think you need text walls on how to set up a good economy.

No instructions on thread. None in zip. All dependencies worked before download. There's no main mod folder. The zip otherwise has parts, sounds, and plugins folders that just copy into game folder (except effects for some damn reason).
I donwloaded the folder to see what's inside but I don't have the game in this computer to see if it works.
anyway, my zip folder has two folders inside (CAL and North Kerbin Weaponry), I don't see how copying those two directly inside the GameData folder can leave a subfolder out, but again I don't have the game here so I can check.
are you sure the dependancies are all there and updated? looks like this mod needs two other mods.

I used to play TTD, then moved to OTTD when they removed the dependency on the original .grfs. I still open it up occasionally, but usually wind up putting it away for a couple of weeks, then loading it up and having no idea what the fuck I was doing last, then starting over again. Despite having played for such a long time, I'm still at a pretty basic level, mostly just setting up individual industry connections, and never building a full economy around connecting and exploiting every industry possible.
We can still talk about it if you like, though. What's your favorite train?

But fucking seriously, I had a plane that couldn't take off because it was too close to the ground, so instead of increasing its height, I was so fucking bored that I decided to make a ramp (pic related) because, well, it's a ramp, you couldn't run into any issues with a simple moving ramp, right? No, wrong, fucking completely. The entire thing came out to be 200 parts, which would be a completely runnable part count in .20, but because of 1.0's "optimizations" it ran at 2-3 FPS. The first time I launched it to drive it down the runway, the batteries somehow clipped into the ground and exploded, rendering it uncontrollable and useless, before the game Oops!'d. I got so fucking mad that I tried flying the plane into the fuckretarded ramp at mach 5+, except that I'd clip through it most of the time for god knows why. Seriously, fuck this broken ass game.

Lets say you are inside of a falling box so you are unable to see your surroundings. Since you have no frame of reference, you will feel weightless since the box is falling at the same speed as you.
Now lets move the box into deep space, outside of the influence of big things such as stars and planets. If the box accelerates, then from your perspective, it will look like everything is falling because of gravity. In both situations it will appear as if the box is standing still. This is one of the fundamental principles of Einstein's theory of relativity there is no way for you to tell if you are moving or standing still.
Suppose that we try to violate this principle by sending pulses of light from the top of the box to the bottom of the box. Lets measure the time between pulse leaves the top of the box, and when it hits the bottom. Let us also suppose that we also measure the time between when the first light pulse arrives at the bottom of the box, and when the second light pulse arrives at the bottom of the box.
If the box is standing still, then the time between the light pulses at the bottom of the box will be exactly equal to the time between the light pulses at the top of the box. This will still be true if the box is moving at a constant speed (that is, the acceleration of the box is 0). Now lets fire up some engines and accelerate the box. Since the box now has an acceleration greater than 0, then the time between the light pulses at the bottom of the box will now be less than the time between the light pulses at the top of the box. But wait, if this happens then the person inside of the box will be able to tell they are moving and violate Einstein's theory of relativity, right? Not really. Let me explain.
Since we are inside the box, we believe the box is standing still, and under acceleration we will also believe that a gravitational field is present. This field will affect the rate at which time flows.

Apparently gravity affects the flow of time in precisely the right way to prevent us from being able to tell if the box is accelerating or not. If we choose to believe that the box is not moving, then we will also need to believe that there is a gravitational field (the acceleration). The gravitational field will cause time at the bottom of the box to move slower than time at the top of the box. This will cause the time between the light pulses at the bottom of the box to be less than the time between the light pulses at the top of the box. Therefore, if we believe that the box is standing still, we will get the exact same results as we would if we believed that the box was accelerating.
The gravitational field exists only from the perspective of a person who believes that the box is standing still. However, if you are standing outside of the box, you will not perceive a gravitational field and you will believe that the box is accelerating instead. From your new perspective outside of the box, the time between the light pulses at the bottom of the box is less than the time between the light pulses at the top of the box due to the fact that the box is accelerating.
From the perspective inside of the box, the time between the light pulses at the bottom of the box is less than the time between the light pulses at the top of the box due to the effects of gravity on the rate at which time flows. Although it is for different reasons, in both cases, the time between the light pulses at the bottom of the box is less than the time between the light pulses at the top of the box. Therefore, if we believe that the box is standing still, we will get the exact same results as we would if we believe that the box is accelerating. So we are still unable to tell if the box is moving or not, and thus we do not violate Einstein's Theory of relativity.
Lets move to a region of space where the strength of the gravitational field is the same everywhere. Clocks that are far apart along the direction of the gravitational field will run at different speeds. The difference in the rates at which the clocks run increases as we increase the distance between the two clocks along the direction of the gravitational field. The difference in the rates at which the clocks run also increases if we increase the strength of the gravitational field.
Near a black hole, the strength of the gravitational field is so strong that to outside observers, time near the black hole is nearly at a standstill.
Personally I believe that this theory is a bit of a patchwork solution. Sure, time changes based on how strong the gravitational field is, but why? Einstein just introduced a few absurd claims that allowed the speed of light to be constant in all frames of reference. The fundamental philosophy is still yet to be found out.

Sorry for late response, I went to sleep.
I don't have a favourite one, I don't really know anything about trains IRL t b h and I'm playing with a vehicle set with invented names so I don't have any preference.
Plus, every time I play I usually end up quitting way before unlocking most of the trains available, as I like to start my games in the late 19th century with an increased day lenght so I never even make it to the WWI period.
Anyway I might be playing later today, maybe I'll do some blogging if I find the patience to pick up all the work I left unfinished the last time I played.
I didn't realize that you could alter the day length. I think I like it where it's at now though, really. Does that setting affect the time it takes to move a vehicle from point A to B? Same time in in-game days, more time irl?
I've looked around for some .grfs from time to time, trying to see if there were more vehicles that I'd like, but I think I prefer vanilla honestly. I'm just always really happy when I unlock the A4. It's my go-to for a long while afterwards. I'm no hyper-autismo trainfag, but trains are pretty fuckin' neat, and the A4 is just good looking.

No, you can't change the day lenght with the stock game or with grfs, you need a patch for that.
It works by changing only the speed at which the game date progresses, therefore slowing down everything that relies on time to work (like industry monthly production or station ratings).
To the player, everything moves at standard speed on screen.
Technically all your vehicles become faster the longer you set the day lenght (same apparent speed, but longer day = more distance in a day), and this is very noticeable once you start handling a lot of cargo and may take some time to get used to. Having faster trains and slower industries kinda screws up with the workflow you are used to, but you can always just change the day lenght a little bit and be less affected by the consequences
Anyway, stock day lenght is too fast for me, it doesn't give you enough time to get accustomed to a new vehicle since you basically get new vehicles every other year once you progress toward the modern era.

I prefer peanut oil because it has one of the best compromise between heat resistance and healthiness, this kind of food needs to be deep fried at very high temperatures and for a short time, so heat resistance (high smoke point) is important here.
The absolute healthiest oil is extra virgin olive oil, but it has a very low smoke point, which is not suitable for this or any kind of deep/pan frying.
Peanut oil is the next best thing (quite healty and with an high smoke point), right next to sunflower seed oil IIRC.

Obviously you need a bunch of different models, you just can't slap the same engine model and change it's size with thrust, but you obviously can't make an infinite amount of them either.
So you will stick to, say 10 models and then what? Would you give the player total freedom with Isp/thrust?
You will be forced to make "brackets" of similar specs that will be coupled with a specific engine model.
So, eventually, you will have fixed amount of engines with a fixed amount of specs, which is basically how things are now, except you have more freedom with Isp and thrust.
I guess at this point you are better off making tweakables for engines so you can increase/decrease their values up to a certain amount and have the other value react accordingly (more thrust = less Isp and vice versa).

That's exactly what I thought. So maybe what the mod would do is that you have a part, the "Procedural Engine" which you can tweak its thurst and isp in the editor. So in the end you'd only need one engine model, or two if you want 1.25m and 2.5m.
I don't know, one model (or even just two or three for each size) would be become boring fast IMO without heavy graphical customisation options (like adding gimbaling hardware or turbopumps, changing bells size, shape and details, general hardware shape and position and so on).
You would end up in a modeling nightmare.
My suggestion, if you ever start coding such a mod, is to make a sort of plugin that adds tweakables to already existing engines, both stock and modded ones and maybe add just a few graphical improvements.
If you played with the procedural parts mod, you already know what I'm talking about, it does the same thing with SRBs but not with other engines so it could be a cool addition to complete that mod
