Any tips on how I can buy Star Wars UCS sets (especially the Tantive IV, Star Destroyer and Super Stsr Destroyer) at a reasonable price? I'm not interested in them as in investment, but would like to put together and display these kits. Thanks!
>>
>>6392357
I don't think you can unless you get REAL lucky at a garage sale or something. They're expensive, buying the parts off bricklink will be expensive also, though IIRC there're some guides out there on what parts can be substituted for cheaper variants to bring costs down a little. I know this exists for the UCS Falcon at least.

or, you could get the Lepin knockoffs if you don't value your soul
>>
>>6392357
As of right now? There really isnt. Stalk ebay auctions with good feedback, and ask them questions if you have to.

Old UCS are too rare because really only collectors buy them, as they mostly arent for playing, which coupled with their high price tags turn themselves off normal people who sell Legos.

You have 3 Options
1. Pray Lego make another version
2. Stalk auctions, ads, and try to get them as cheap as possible
3. Buy the Lepin knockouts, as they still look really nice as display pieces. If youre buying them for the Minifigs or because they have play features, than it may be awful for what you want.
>>
>>6392372
>>6392374
Thanks. I've been working on a Y-Wing and have the Saturn V to work on after that. I'll keep an eye on eBay.
>>
>>6392331
I loved those racers as a kid. It seems a little weird Lego made them now but they were good fun.

Something like that wouldn't happen now.
>>
>>6392486
No problem. LEGO doesnt really release enough or even GOOD UCS all that often...and most of the best ones are now too old, especially if you only started collecting Lego models recently.

I think the only UCS Models Id ever buy would be...
>AT-AT Walker
>The Ghost/Phantom
>AT-TE Walker
>Millennium Falcon (i missed the first one)
>Lambda Shuttle (i missed the first one)
>Poe's X-Wing
>Krennic's Imperial Shuttle

Welp, I realized I have an issue today, anons.

I was driving through a light rain shower, at the beginning of a 30 minute drive to get more klocki. The rain picked up, and it started storming.

It was then that I realized that I have a bit of an addiction to lego, and acquiring lego. I've been checking craigslist and letgo habitually for the past few weeks. It's gotten a little ridiculous.

What do, friends?

>>6392874
Are there any good uses for stud shooters? I haven't seen them used in many mocs.
>>
>>6392854
I like comic books, I read them regularly.
I do read DC and Marvel, although I mostly read non-superhero comics like Saga and Preacher, but still.
>>
>>6392878
I've seen them used well for visual accents. Actual stud shooting not so much.

also they can make decent minifig weapons, with parts added so they look like heavy blasters or whatever.

The only comic book I've ever read and enjoyed enough to keep up with is 2000 AD. Cape stuff just doesn't do it for me at all and I don't know if it's me unconsciously not wanting to have anything to do with the hordes of secondaries that coat themselves in free Marvel advertising outside Hot Topic or if it's actually just rubbish.

They tend to keep older sets a year or 2 later than most stores

>>
>>6393360
I work at one, and there's occasional sales on Lego. The employee discount on sets from 1-2 years ago is the best thing for an AFOL.

You always get that 10% off Lego with a membership, and it's only sometimes Lego goes on sale (like Black Friday weekend). I don't think I've ever seen a coupon that *did* work.

Cassiopia as a full figure can sell for like $20. You Missed out. She's really the only one anybody really wants since that line is so reviled.

I guess this is my chance to brag about my martian collection I'm building up for a huge life on mars project. I never spent more than $4 on any of them and I have a new Cassiopeia coming in this week. I also have like 5 other Arcturus heads with martian bodies but his arms are crazy hard to find in large amounts. I might have to just order from a bunch of separate stores on bricklink.

Most of the martians that aren't in the front row as they appear in their sets are mismatched for variety.

Its for individual pieces mainly....

Its pretty hard anywhere to get 50 Blaster Rifles for $14~, but BL makes it possible.

Now if only LEGO would get the message that Studshooters are fucking garbage.

At least get them off Vehicles. Guns for minifigs are one thing, but they already plaster those spring loaded canons of everything, they dont need studguns too.

Shouldn't it? It takes a brick and a plate to level with the top of that bracket, so that makes a total of 5 plates. Double it and it should equal out to 4 studs wide. I don't know, I'm not an expert on Lego math yet, still learning

Life on Mars was an immense failure from what I've heard (it only lasted one wave) and most of the time when I see people address it they just talk about how "ugly" the sets were and how the martians were just lazy battle droid reskins (something I completely disagree with). It's entire philosophy as theme with it's numerous exclusive parts and even exclusive colors are a big reason lego was going under in the early 2000s. Not to mention it's a completely peaceful space theme.

Mars mission later on was basically a reboot "fixing" all the perceived issues by having it only use very common colors, have an extremely combat focused plot and aliens unlike anything else in lego. From what I can tell that line sold very well in comparison so I guess they were right in a way.

Despite all this, life on mars is my favorite theme. As a kid I always wanted a sci-fi city theme and the aero tube hangar was the closest lego ever got to that. Currently I'm extrapolating on the concepts in the tube hanger to make something closer to what I always imagined as a child. a sprawling modular alien city Kind of like the travelling display you see part of here>>6394448. I'm also sticking with the same module guidelines the theme abided by for modular building.

I've completely loaded up on parts exclusive to the line to the point where if I had to buy the tube hanger multiple times to get these rare pieces I would of had bought it over 8 times. Though since nobody likes life on mars the pieces are dirt cheap and I've hardly even spent more than $120 on the project.

>>6394434
It always bothered me when the torsos and legs were differently colored. As a kid I always assumed the color of their suit determined their job.

I'd post pics of what I'm working on but at the moment it's all packed up and I have no place to take nice pictures. I'll try and do it once I have more together.

black-leader
purple-tube overseer
sand purple-tube mechanic
red-offense
blue-defense
gray-mech technician
lime-general worker
orange-biodium miner
tan-wastelander/scavenger
white-medical

In the official "story" lego released for the line they talked about how there was a martian rebellion. I guess maybe they don't abide by such constricting dress codes!

>>6394515
Thanks, it's something I've always wanted to pursue since childhood and since I lost interest in direction modern lego has taken it's a nice alternative just to focus on a specific older theme instead.

>>6394521
The colors are great. It always felt like a gradient from bright colors to gray and it made the translucent pieces really stand out. It reminded me of a laser tag place. And yeah the fragility of the martians is a problem for sure but the fact they had a completely different part structure helped them to feel more like aliens instead of just weird people like the stingrays for instance. It made them feel stranger and allowed the amazing tube system to work.

>>6394523
I actually liked some of the vehicle designs but didn't like the black/lime white/orange colors. It's also whenever I started to notice lego seemed scared to do structures as opposed to 99% just being vehicles with nowhere to go.

Also the articulation-less jellybean "aliens" from that line are probably the worst lego figures ever created.

That's fair. I like keeping things looking a bit less outlandish so I stick 'em on pretty much anything that would normally have the usual chunky wheels, like all the 4-wide cars that look ridiculous with the wheels halfway out of the fenders. They're great for making more realistic vehicles in general just due to their relative thinness compared to the XBOX HUEG wheels, they show up lots when people make 7/8/+ wide vehicles with as close to realistic proportions as possible.

The wheels sticking so far out is quite goofy with City sets, but using the thinner axle can bring them in closer. Just requires a little bit of rebuilding as they put the wheels lower

I actually have a couple plates like that from my youth- 2x2s with studs on both sides, that are still one plate thick instead of the quarter-plate (?) thickness of the one on the left. They're old Mega Bloks parts.

>>6394583
The thinner axle brings them in tighter but I'm still not a fan of the tire chunkiness when used on standard sedans/sports cars/etc. Plus, the 17.5mm tires can fit the smaller wheels including the dog-dish style solid ones and those are just marvelous for putting on your favorite brick-built shitbox.

Ironically I don't mind the new 'sporty' wheel/tire combo they've used on a couple vehicles- the thinner sidewall helps it out a lot, even if the actual size is still as big as Ol' Chunky.

I've been on 4chan for 7+ years, and I love lego, but I'm new here.

Which sets should I buy? What's the truth about lego prices going up and price-part ratios?

We're old sets really better? Personally I really think so.
>>
>>6394583
The top one is approximately 10x better.
>>
>>6394960
Creator sets are great and a good variety of houses, animals, and vehicles
Prices are higher but not by much.
Price per piece isn't a metric lego goes by, they price by weight and other factors, but if you are buying a set for parts it's important to consider. Licensed sets are more expensive in general.
And "better" is an opinion. The craft and design of builds have gotten way better, even if the ideas are less generic and less imagination focused (a lot of actual characters in themes now because of tie in junk). But compare the older beetle model to the latest one, it's no contest. And also the modular sets would have never happened in the past and they're a great treat for AFOL's

Any recommendations on good sets with black/gray spaceship parts?

Weight is a better metric, true. I wish someone made price/g charts, possibly with dedicated and non-versatile pieces removed. especially for current sets.

Old sets just looked so much better to me especially wheels and boxy cars (acctually irl cars were kinda boxy back then too, but they were at least objectively more versatile.

You will need to accept TLG doesn't want to make sets that you want.

You should buy what makes you happy. The truth about price per piece is that it is used because it's easy, not because it's accurate. European boxes don't have the part count if i'm not mistaken.

Old sets were different, maybe better, maybe worse.

Also here is a reaction image to get your collection started. Have fun!

To quickly create a SNOT connection, just wedge a plate in between two studs. You can also use super glue like they showed in The Lego Movie if you can't get the angle just right. Plates can also be cut with a hacksaw if the ones you have are too long for what you need. If you want to get into making customs ("sigfigs" or "waifigs"), Play-Doh and hobby-store acrylic paint are your best options. If you trick a Lego Store employee into saying "Legos" they have to give you a free polybag. Some minifig heads have a secret face print underneath the visible one. Glow-in-the-dark pieces are edible. In Germany they call Legos "Danishblokken" because Legos is a slang term for penis. Dark bley pieces are actually made out of coral. The Pirates monkey was based on a monkey that Ole Kirk Christiansen shot as a boy. Primo and Duplo blocks contain a numbing agent.

In future space crafts are build with 100% official LEGO brand pieces, LEGO group approved building techniques and can leave and return atmosphere as they please.

I'm really tempted to check out Lepin, but I just can't do it. They're cheaper, of equal quality, and they follow all the rules. Not sure what that means to the customers of Lepin, but I don't wanna get involved, anyway.

Now the only thing between a normal point and shoot and a pocket Elph is the SX500 series and similar which have massive fucking lenses because EVERYTHING MUST BE A SUPERZOOM instead of just a nice and surprisingly durable compact camera with the features of a larger one.

RAMM

STEIN

>Justify

Child.....

You dont justify the music. It calls to you. I love just about everything, earlier I cried while listening to a rendition of "Dixie", then laughed while watching Limp Bizkits "My Way" and Korns "Twisted Transistor", transitioned into"10 Bux" and am now listening to Gunship. The whole way to the Rammstein show my GF was listening to "The Vinyl Hour" or some shit on Sirius, and I swear to christ they played Stairway to Heaven and then right after Hotel California like fifteen times in a row.

Also, dont tell me you never met impossible odds going to a show dude. Thats like, ancient right of passage shit, handed down from my grand dad to my dad to me. Look at it this way, ive been to shows where people died, band members almost got shot to death and final shows where band members DID die. Later on, unrelated incidents. Detroits a hell of a war zone.

>>6396366
Till almost walked into a 4 way fire column. He walked past the UP and DOWN right into the LEFT to RIGHT, threw himself back, fell on the stage ripping his asbestos covering off and was fucking shaking like a leaf. Even was patting down his singed hair.

Didnt skip a fucking beat. For the record, their pyro was malfunctioning all night. Could tell because the guitarists kept looking at each other and pausing, then the BANG would go off, off beat.

Also, they laid out the heaviest fucking breakdown during AMERIKA. Lasted like ten minutes, just that last guitar riff.....

Th real surprise is, Till, lead singer of Rammstein became liscensed just because they dealt with so many problems doing it in countries that actually care about things like...you know, SAFETY and NOT DYING. And though most of their career they have had little burns and bruises. The whole time I was there I kept myself vigilant by going by the law of averages. These guys have had a pretty stellar record of NOT causing a disaster. Itll happen soon enough....I truly just hope the collateral isnt too bad.....

I dunno anon, despite it being a big part of my job cameras are largely a mystery to me.

I've been posting in the Camera General because my Elph is about to die for the second time >>6359075 and I should probably start looking for a replacement now. I think I'm going to go with the Elph 360 AS. It's got basically all the functionality of my current pocket Elph but the depth of focus is a bit wider, which means that (in theory) shots of a group of minifigs where they aren't all on the exact same plane won't come out with one fig's face in focus and the others slightly blurry.

Needs to be a pocket Elph because I need to be able to get really, really close to the stuff I'm shooting, and the Elph series in general is amazing for macro shots (my fancy work camera needs a special macro lens for that; I took it home last summer to see if it would work better than my Elph but it couldn't even compete).
>>
>>6396592
For parts that are unique to sets currently on shelves, it's usually a great deal. I think when the last Nexo wave came out, the Book Carrier minifig was several bucks on cracklink because it only came in the huge Jestro's Fortress set, but the fig was available directly from Lego for less than a dollar in as large of a quantity as you wanted.
>>
>>6396592
Just ordered some stuff yesterday. For regular parts it's better to just hit up BL, but like anon said, certain unique parts are best purchased directly from LEGO. The only real bad thing about B&P is that not everything is available, unless you want to jew them by using the replacement system.

Descriptions!

Koko, Mom, the former Mrs. Garmadon: Lloyd’s devoted mom Koko is smart, strong and independent. As Lord Garmadon’s ex-wife, she is not afraid to stand up to him – even though he’s twice her size and has twice as many arms. Koko knew “Garm” when he was a young warlord eager to conquer the world. Back then, she thought that was just a figure of speech. Turns out, he meant it. So she took young Lloyd away in the hope of giving him a normal life. But that didn’t work out quite the way she planned.

Lloyd, the Green Ninja: As the legendary Green Ninja, Lloyd is a Master Builder and the leader of a secret ninja force protecting Ninjago City from the most notorious villain of all time: Lord Garmadon. Crowds cheer the Green Ninja as a hero, but when he takes off his mask they only see him as Lloyd, the boy unfortunate enough to be Garmadon’s son. It’s hard for him to make friends or get through a day at school because Garmadon ruins everything. Still, Lloyd yearns to have a real relationship with his dad.
>>
Lord Garmadon, the Worst Guy: The baddest warlord of all time, Lord Garmadon has glowing red eyes, sharp teeth, horns, and four arms. Has an affinity for sharks. Lord Garmadon can smell fear, but everyone around him can see it because wherever he goes people flee in panic. Impatient, impulsive and completely self-absorbed, he likes to make a point by firing his generals….from a volcano. Though he hasn’t been successful yet, Lord Garmadon never stops trying to take over NINJAGO City. But why? Could it be he needs to reconnect with the son he hardly knows?

Master Wu: This wise, all-knowing mentor promises to teach his students to become ninja masters but first they must find their inner peace… or is that piece? He wants them to rely less on their mechs and more on themselves and each other. Wu is Lord Garmadon’s brother, and uncle to Lloyd. He carries a staff he can play like a flute, and a hat that doubles as a flotation device. Years of meditation have not softened this warrior’s edges—or his tongue—and though his students might think he’s “way old,” Wu is still full of surprises.

Ok, I had it bad this past winter. I came out of my second "Dark Age" this past fall. This time I had space and the $$ to make all my dreams come true.

At first I'd buy a set or two from Shop@Home... Then from bricklink, eBay, yard sales, etc...

It was when I started calling people up that I knew and asking if they wanted to part with their kids collections for cash that I might have a slight problem.

Then I created alerts on Craigslist with search terms that would email me to new listings in a 100 mile radius.

Soon thereafter I was buying huge 40+lb lots (sometimes multiples) in a weekend. I'd spend evenings sorting and dedicated two rooms for this "Hobby". One for storage and one for display.

Yup I had a serious LEGO addiction. One which my friends began to worry about.

Then...

The summer, and nice weather hit. I haven't bought in over 6 weeks now. It feels good to have a winter hobby but hell! Get outside and enjoy the fresh air.
>>
Well, it was an impulse buy, when i saw it fo $20, and it's probably best impulse buy I ever had. I honestly think we need another emergency service next. Hospital or police station.

I don't think we'll see another many-themed set like Assembly Square or Detective's Office for a few years. Another single themed set (w/ or w/o apartment) or double-themed set (Brick Bank) is much more likely.

I also predict AGAINST a corner store (4/12 current are corners). There is also currently a non-integer number of 32-wide non-corner buildings (8.5 due to Assembly Square being 1.5) Maybe we'll get a standalone 16-wide in the future, to fill this hole (for people who want to build a city block) Probably not in early 2018 tho.
>>
>>6397436
Agreed. We need law enforcement. My city is under "Mob" rule.

I've ended up doing several MOCs because of the amount of corners LEGO has released. I understand why they do it because there is more store frontage. I've also Modded all of my Creator sets. (Doubled the size of the patio in the Parisian Restaurant - Added offices and storage to the Cinema, etc...)

Not a huge fan of Assembly Square. Too much in too little space.

Sort of glad nothing else is coming out this year.

I think the chances of a 16 wide creator modular aren't high, the sets have always been 'flagship' type large and expensive and I feel like a quick and cheap half size set would be diluting the brand? Maybe we'll have to wait until Lego does another 48 wide set to achieve symmetry.

You could argue the newest modular has already been announced. Neo-Hong Kong looks cool as fuck and I reckon even considering it's price, you could do worse than buying a few sets when they start to get discounted before this set is retired, because if you can store them they'll be worth huge fucking amounts 2-3 years later.

https://shop.lego.com/en-AU/Old-Fishing-Store-21310

Also, while not completely modular in the same way the creator sets are, this will be be going down the docks in my lego city. Is anyone else surprised Ideas chose to put a large, complex building into mass production instead of normie licensed shit?

>>6397494
I don't know man, why isn't Ace Brickman, PI solving low level crime in your lego city? About fucking half of non-creator Lego city sets are police based I don't want them shitting up creator as well. I'd be ok with it if it were in a very antiquated style like the fire brigade (not every fire fighter in BA, no flame pieces, not loaded with trans blue and red siren pieces). I would definitely be down with some sort of medical centre, with an actual ward and doctors office, operating theatre. That would be somewhat new at least.
