Welcome to Plastic Block Building General.

This thread for all your non-Lego non-MB building blocks and complaining about aliexpress. Dear anon with like four orders missing, how are you doing?

Also, anyone got recommendations for decent taobao agents?
>>
Anyone familiar with Star Diamond?

I've been curious about them so I have two sets coming tomorrow, supposedly, will post a little review.

I'm still out two orders, one of them they said to wait a week and if it's not here they'll start the refund process, there's 6 days left on the extension they gave but if it's not here tomorrow I'll just get that going I guess. It's the three Banes order, don't know if I'll try and re-order from them or someone else at this point, I really want a freaking movie Bane but I'm tired of being disappointed 5 days a week.

The other order has 26 more days on its extension, guess it'll appear in the mail randomly sometime over the summer if it does at all. I don't understand how I get such bullshit luck with three different orders from three different sellers. The only bright spot is I finally did get the third one and it had the right Captain Hydra at least.

The last time tracking was updated on either order was two months ago, between lousy China mail and lousy Canada Post I'm doubly screwed I guess.

My local source for bootlegos hasn't gotten anything new in a while either, plenty of sets on the shelves but I've got all the ones I want by now. The last find I really liked was this 3 dollar helicopter with happy Chinese soldiers, went back and bought two more and built a larger one out of the parts, I'd take a pic but I don't feel like digging it out of a stack of containers right now.

The saga continues with my missing aliexpress orders. After waiting out the extension on my three Banes order I messaged them that it still hadn't come, the guy said to open a dispute and he would get me a refund so I did that and now I just got a counter-proposal from the seller. No refund, just this:

>please go to your local post office, the parcel should have arrived now, and when you get the package, please cancel the dispute, thanks

I'm rather annoyed but I guess I'll go through the motions and visit the post office tomorrow, I don't believe at all that it'll be there, hell I don't even have any info to provide other than a chinese tracking number that hasn't updated since it supposedly left the country two months ago.

I just want to move on from it all, I've taken a gamble on the store that had my order here in one week, they just so happened to have the Banes I wanted so we'll see if the lightning strikes twice.

There's a guy in my area selling "LEGO compatible figures" on the facebook marketplace for $15 a pop. They're very clearly chinkbricks. Pokemon, Toy Story, DC movies/comics. It'd be funny if I didn't know he's making 10x profit on them.

Here're the minifigs. I hope the tank's got decent headroom. The prints are only on one side, and pretty simplistic, but the part quality... honestly, feels as good as Lego.

I know I've seen that handgun somewhere before but I can't remember where.

The instructive instructions. It's a simple build, a greebly box with slopes on the tops and corners. Uses a metric ton of simple bricks, which is just what I wanted out of this thing; I'm already thinking of getting a second one.

Quality feels just as high as Lego.

Pity about the rubber tracks, I'll rebuild it into a hovertank or something.

I dunno. If you ditch the speedboat and minifigure, you have a decent start to a pirate island. The direction of studs changes at some point during the build of the skull formation, so it will be interesting to see how it comes together. Finally, you don't see enough Moai builds in sets.

The manual was on the outside with two bags; one with stickers and the little cape, the other a large back with loose pieces and two smaller bags inside.

The cape was a notable one for me because it features just one hole instead of the usual two that most Lego figures end up having. But it worked out pretty well in the end.

The figures were extremely well detailed. It's seems kind of weird that the night elves are apparently fighting the humans in this one, but oh well. The saberstalker look-alike is a really neat mold. The hair pieces on the night elves are a rubbery plastic that seems to stay on okay, but may not be as viable long term.

Admittedly, one of the "selling points" that made me want to buy this was the one night elf woman seemingly running around in her panties with armor on. Unfortunately, the "skin tone" of the printing isn't quite that of the head, but it's still not bad.

One other odd note: humans have yellow skin, and elves have normal flesh tone. Huh.

Fuck it, moving on. This shit had better not be upside down.

The little night elf building seems to be an armory of some kind, with a ton of weapons of all kinds. The target and wolf emblem are stickers, as will be the knight's shield. The roof is kind of a neat design, but also lifted pretty much from the Elves line. There's a ladder to the roof and plenty of bows of various kinds, so the knight probably isn't going to get anywhere in capturing even this small place. There's no real "play features" of note, but it all looks good for display.

Fuck.

Here's the final thing with everything. Not sure why the barrel is there, the instructions just have it rolling along like this was the Stormstout Brewery or something. In the end, for a couple bucks it wasn't a bad set at all, though better for display. The knight is a little boring I guess, if he was going to attack then he probably should have brought some kind of siege weapon.
>>
>>6388870
yeah, I love the elf outfits. Pity about the skin tone mismatch, guess I'll be skipping these sets

thanks for the review, mate
>>
>>6389043
Yeah it sucks because it's not TOO far off but it's just enough to be off-putting. The photos don't really show it perfectly but the skin tone on the body printing is paler/whiter, like not quite undead but definitely not the same as the hands and head.

With that said though, quite frankly this set was worth the price just for the bevy of pieces and for the saberstalker and elf hair pieces. But to each their own, I can understand the disappointment about the skin tone thing.

Sure thing. I got a similar combination set from the liquidation center here, can't find any brand identification on the instructions but it's probably from the same vintage. The pieces quality is overall pretty good, some of the mini builds were a bit silly but I got the set just to build the combo (pic related). Every minikit's instructions had a page each of the tilt-rotor build, more than the one other combination set I've come across (from COGO) that just had a picture of a large warship on the box. The one negative is a common enough problem with China bricks, their technic pins don't work very well and I substituted a couple for Lego ones so the rotors would stay in place. Can't seem to find this set anywhere online, I'll dig up the instructions sheets in a bit.

Haven't opened it up yet. I'm planning to merge a few sets into one diorama, and I'm waiting for some time to and put it all together. I'm also debating whether or not to pick up other pirate-themed sets from other brands for diorama parts, so that's pushing things back.

We would occasionally get foreign buyers who would contact CS and ask if we could declare a purchase as a gift on the customs form, because gifts generally are exempt from taxation and other fees. Technically, both buyer and seller could could get into trouble for misrepresenting the contents of a package to avoid paying duties. I'm sure it happens, though. On the flipside, I've received parcels from the Land of Many Chins that have been declared "commercial sample" or something along those lines.

Bottom line: read up on customs declarations on the Deutsche Post website, then contact a seller before they ship your order to see if there's anything they can do to help you. Keep in mind that there's only so much they can do.

Looking here! It's medieval knight Batman!

This is a knockoff of the minifig from the Dimensions set. I got it for 78 cents, shipping included.

One thing wrong with it is that it wants to fall apart at the waist because of the utility belt piece. It's not so loose that the top falls off if you turn it upside-down, though.

As one might expect, the metallic stuff is hit-and-miss: It looks like they tried to make the helmet pearl grey, which doesn't match the metallic silver printing on the body OR the plain grey (bley?) shoulder piece. The sword is also not metallic, but they did include the trans red things for the sword hilt.

I like it. But then, I have low expectations.
>>
>>6405939
Looks pretty nice, except the off-gray hat that doesn't match anything else.

How does the gray compare to lego bley?
>>
>>6405983
>Lego bley
I have no idea. I have trouble seeing the difference between greys that are at the same saturation level.

Figures were actually pretty good, no printing issues. However, one of the pilots was missing a hand. This is easily replaced from my collection.

More disappointing is that the spring-launchers do not work at all in this set, no matter how you attempt to load or fire them. This SUCKS, because in my BELA Hailfire Droid they fire perfectly. Oh well.

Wings came together sturdily. I have to say that these sets have come a LONG fucking way from what they used to be. I noticed no difference at all in strength between these and normal Lego, aside from a few "tails" coming up from studs, which were easily ground off by just rubbing the stud against the table once.

And last photo on the shelf and with flash.

Overall, this ended up being an excellent buy. The issues were negligible, the set is 99.5% the same as the main Lego one, and it's a fourth of the price. The only complaint was the shipping taking forever and the seller being a stingy fucker about a tracking number that actually worked, but in the end, all is well. Can definitely recommend this one.

>>
>>6416073
The catch is when you choose the free shipping option it can take its sweet time getting to you. I've found that the best option for buying notlegos is to find a store that charges a bit less per fig but for a small shipping fee on top so it basically adds up to what you're paying everywhere else with the free shipping on top. Somehow this equals faster shipping, at least for me, worked all three times I've tried it to date.
>>
>>6416073
>What's the catch?

slow-ass shipping like the other anon said, with a minor possibility that it will never get there at all (happened to me once; Aliexpress processed the refund with no problems, to their credit)

they may be overpriced for the quality you get

may contain chemicals and/or atoms
>>
>>6416148
I'd like to follow up on this and also point out you should never use any battery set from Chinese online stores unless you're alright with starting a small fire and destroying your new set. Chinese made batteries that you get off of these sites are notoriously bad, and have a high failure rate. Plus, you also could risk serious injury by ingesting whatever chemical they've put into the battery, sometimes can be toxic depending on the materials used. They don't follow health and safety standards, and at this point I'm surprised someone hasn't found something in the plastics of these bricks that can kill people.
>>

Overall the parts quality is what one can now expect from notlegos, there were a couple slightly loose pieces and the technic pins for the Chinook-style copter are too tight on the rotors but otherwise everything fits together very well. A quick post-script (incidentally hitting the magic 300), found this foursome shrink-wrapped together at Canadian Tire of all places, $20 Cdn. The receipt said I'd saved $50 which was pretty sweet, these haven't been on shelves anywhere here for a couple years now I think but somehow CT had some and was deep-clearancing them hard. Haven't opened any yet but I'm already kinda tempted to go back for a few more and combine them into as much of a castle as I can get the parts for... but I really shouldn't, space around here is already at a premium and I have a keep made out of old MB Dragons parts getting dusty on top of a bookcase, heh.

The two big sets have been repackaged and sold in the US at discount chains for $10-$12 USD each, so that's a good deal. What is Canadian Tire? Got this guy today and put it together right away. One thing I can say about it: It is big. A lot bigger than I expected after seeing the Lego version on the shelf. I expected it to be parts-sparse and rickety and flimsy.

The parts felt sturdy enough and went together smoothly. The figure doesn't crumple under its own weight, which I expected, being completely made out of ball-joints. We'll see how those joints hold up over time, I guess.

At any rate, I declare this a good buy at $11.86 (including shipping).

Pic related, with minifig for scale.

Speaking of such things: There's a bit in the instructions where if you do it correctly, the legs lose almost all posability and want to cross/hold the feet together.

I found that just leaving out one piece on either side leaves the legs in a much better position, with some motion forwards and back.

Did you find this with the Lego version?

Sorry, I don't recall, it's been a while since I put it together.

but I did end up making a bunch of little tweaks to help articulation, so, possibly.

Got some more china bootLego to review here, AliExpress has been feeding me cheap stuff.

To start with LELE brings us the "New Phantom Ninja Series Ninjago" blah blah, it's a pirate ship.

This guy was $3 and some change, free shipping, and is one of a set of four total.

Never understood why Lego hasn't done more small sets like these. I'd have willingly paid $5-$6 for this guy, as he's very comparable to the $6 sets they were putting out back in the 90s, or even a modern day polybag. Instead, China pulls ahead on the neat stuff, like the guard tower and these little pirate scooters.

Pilot's mustache doesn't come up as high as it should. This doesn't show with his glasses down however, so it's easy to miss.

Otherwise, he seemed fine at first...

One thing I've definitely liked about some of these seemingly unique China sets at times is the amount of detail involved. Maybe the designs were stolen from places on the internet with better ones? At any rate, the bricks went together well, without any weak connections or leaky pieces.

Bugger me, 150 is the image cap here? That's a lot less than I'm used to, whoops.

When a new thread gets made I'll get the rest of these in.
