/d/'s yearly purge of anything not simple image dumps continues unabated. After the meta discussion thread (that Hiro said we all could have) was set to autosage, people complained about the writefag thread getting to stick around when caption threads are banned. Now the writefag thread is set to autosage too and everyone's making plans to evacuate to a new board yet again. Apparently there's just no place on this site for erotic literature. It's unfortunate that the one person unhappy with the status quo is the one person with the ability to enforce "stop liking what I don't like".

>>
>>1419818
It's just retarded. It's a fetish board and the whole point of fetishes is that if you don't have them, you can't understand them. Just because mods don't get it then it doesn't mean it's 'low quality'.
>>
>>1408952
>>
>>1419838
Agreed, but this seems to be the end of writefagottry on /d/ as the latest thread was nuked immediately after creation. Hopefully the /aco/ mods will be a bit more accommodating. I'd really hate to be forced completely off of 4chan.

hgames are getting deleted from /vg/ too and moved to /h/.
>>
>>1421418
I can kind of understand when there's another board that fits the subject the they'd rather us use. It made sense when they banished the porn writing thread from /tg/, as that's a blue board, but erotic literature doesn't really have a good home on 4chan. /lit/ is the only board dedicated to reading and writing, but it's a blue board, so that's not a viable solution either.

There was an attempt to move EFG to /aco/ but it seems like that just took /aco/'s writefag thread down with it. The last few attempts to start a writefag thread on /aco/ have all gotten deleted. At this rate every writing-based thread on the site will be purged.

Is there anything wrong with /trash/? I get that it's not the most glamorous board but I guess it's somewhere and it almost certainly won't get deleted.
I have no investment in this by the way, feel free to call me out if I'm wrong.
>>
>>1426617
>Is there anything wrong with /trash/?
The name.
The board would be slightly more attractive if it was named /offtopic/.
Unfortunately mods consider it to be a failed experiment and that it's too late to change anything.
>>
>>1426617
/trash/ like /qa/ is a hidden board that doesn't appear on the main list of boards so most people probably barely know it's there and anyone who does find it is probably running for the hills a minute later without bothering to check the whole catalog. New people aren't going to find the thread in the /trash/ ghetto, and as much as we all hate newfags, a community can't survive without at least as much new blood coming in as oldfags leaving.
>>
>>1426627
>>1426634

How the fuck is this site still alive?

>>1426617
>Is there anything wrong with /trash/?
You mean other than moving threads to a place that implies that they're garbage? You mean the same thing that's wrong with all of the other thread moves, which is why nobody ever abides by them, and instead they try to go off and make their own sites?

Not really, no.
>>
>>1426678
My pet theory, given the timing (8ch was a big thing at that point) is that /trash/ was made solely to recapture furfags, so that they couldn't prop up 8ch's network effects and make the site into a viable competitor. Of course, one of Hiro's buddies owns it now, so they probably don't care at this point. It'll probably be deleted soon.

>>1426703
It was one of Hiro's first moves, immediately after Cohen-Poole's resignation. It was November 7th, 2015. GG was still alive at that point, and there was still a ton of resentment toward the site management's antics.
>>

>>
>>1426634
Interesting trivia is that /qa/ does not appear in any records of the site, while /trash/ appears in the rules and blotter.
>>
>>1426718
Has anyone else noticed that, when you criticize how things are being run, you'll get a lot of low-effort, sporadically punctuated posts, full of mildly outdated catchphrases ("shill", "BTFO", "based", etc.) and ESL shit ("they still need to" as opposed to "they need to") in defense of the current management?

Is it just one guy, or did the the community manager hire a bunch of flips to make them?

>>1426740
Personally, I think it's either IRC fags, or some kind of modern hellscape community management bullshit where you pay people to post on-message in order to direct the site the way you want. No one's enough of an idiot to think they'll be rewarded for doing this just because.
That sounds fucking crazy, but there are services where you can pay people to post in order to make it look like your startup's not dead, so I don't think it's totally outside the realm of possibility.
>>
>>1426740
You'll find people like that all over the internet nowdays. It's why youtube "celebrities" have to be careful who the badmouth nowadays or the subset of rabid fans who fancy themselves to be their loyal minions will flood them with death threats. Everyone thinks if they suck up hard enough and enforce their idol's will they'll be invited into the inner circle.
>>
>>1426744
...To be honest, though, the main reason that explanation appeals to me is that they all write like they speak the same non-English language.

>>

Discord is just IRC with pictures. Should IRC be removed?
>>
>>1426762
Discord is extremely easy to set up and coordinate for tech illiterates. This is a much bigger difference than you think, it makes discord much more prevalent than IRC.
I don't support banning discord, this just seemed like a relevant point.
>>
>>1426762
"Tumblr is just a blogging platform."
The average Discord user has probably never used IRC in his entire life.
>>
>>1426744
You jumped the gun so hard I was wondering if you replied to the right post, I wasn't even criticizing the staff you mouth breathing retard
>>
Apparently personal ads are back.
>>
>>1426772
Coordinating with IRC is as easy as /j. In fact, it's easier, because Discord has weird hashes instead of channel names.

>>1426776
Don't you know that "mouth-breathing" has a hyphen, pinoy-kun?

It's really interesting, you know. The IRC clique talks an excellent game about how "people can just go elsewhere uwu", but the instant you actually try to coordinate them to DO this, they come down on it, hard, to the extent of, for example, spamfiltering 7ch and 8ch's names back when they were viable competition.
If they're really serious about wanting to lose these posters, why don't they just make a sticky linking the other sites? But they never seem to do anything like that. In fact, if you're another imageboard, and you're not some joke like buttpoet was, you can't even buy a banner.

So, which is it? Do you need these people or don't you? If you don't, and you're absolutely unwilling to make any kind of compromises for them, isn't it just basic decency to help them to help you?

>generalposters, /pol/fags, wotas, gays, and fandoms of every kind would be entirely absent from this site if only the owner would allow them to discuss exit strategies

Really, if you actually hate people like these, you should be angrier with the mods than the posters themselves. The mods are the ones keeping them here.
>>
>>1426924
As a matter of fact, yes. I was keeping tabs on the whole 8ch debacle. Apparently, they wanted to buy one, but couldn't. Of course, they could be lying, right?

Fortunately, I also have first-hand experience with this. I tried to buy a banner for a (now aborted) project, and didn't get a response. So, no, you can't, if they think it's going to cut into their market share.

It's greedy to ask people to pay for the privilege of being able to "cure your cancer", though.

I have seen advertisements for independent imageboards on 4chan before. Well, one. For /nen/, on /jp/. I wouldn't be surprised that they would refuse to run ads for 8ch but I am surprised that they would do so for other small boards.

I've never tried to buy anything myself before.
>>
>>1426946
Of course they'll run those. They're like "420chan": mostly dead, not a serious threat to market share. They ran one for "buttpoet", too. I mentioned that.
>>
>>1426841

Still people jacking off to weird stuff.
>How the fuck is this site still alive?
Years of moot's blood/sweat/tears/money and followed by Hiroshima's incessant penny-pinching.
>How many more years of this shit do we have?
I'm expecting the site to collapse under its own weight within the next five years or so. It'll have had a good run.

>>1426762
Once people set up a means of contacting each other outside of the site, whatever thread they're a part of tends to go south fast. Partially because it pulls traffic away from the site, partially because it narrows an ingroup down even further and then you've got a classic circlejerk. For a while, /ghost/ was a good example of this whenever it wasn't dying for one reason or another.

>>1426697
>being this mad about getting kicked out of a chatroom about reptiles
>>
>>1426733
Lack of a period aside, "they still need to [...]" isn't ESL. >>1426718's complete statement is that cripplechan needed to come over and market themselves in the past to get users and that they continue to need to do so when they should have a self-sustaining community at this point. Instead, they're a "containment website" consisting primarily of disgruntled 4chan rejects who can only draw in other disgruntled 4chan users and the occasional Redditor. People either don't know about them at all, know enough to not want to have anything to do with them, or just don't want to switch chans.

To frame it more simply, consider the phrase "they do that." Using 'still' to modify it into "they still do that" indicates an continuation of a pre-existing practice. A similar example:
>They have a summer cheese festival.
>They still have a summer cheese festival.

This is primary school reading comprehension. Are you sure you're not the ESL?

>>1429333

>>
>>1429346
/u/ is a slow board, so people have this non-written agreement to not start new threads until the previous one hits page 10. Is actually quite a common agreement on nearly all slow boards, so the catalogue isn't clogged with 3 or 4 this or that general. Faster boards, like /a/ don't care because any thread hitting the auto-sage will be pruned within the day.

You should (or not) visit the /asp/ on mondays or special events. There are literally up to 6 threads with the same something general tag, even numbered. Plus the shit threads to talk about some inane moment, like some ass glimpse of some wrestling diva.

Point is, /u/ hates the namefag because he creates new threads way before page 9 or 10, breaking this agreement. He does it because, at one hand, to farm (you), and at the other, because people get mad at him because of this.

To be fair, however, /u/ are also more prone to drama than most boards, so they blow this out of proportion, imo.

They've basically killed all OC on the board except for Drawthread, for completely pulled out of their ass reasons that anyone who contributed and read those threads can tell you is complete and utter BULLSHIT.

This shit has gone on for FAR TOO LONG. Mods like to hide behind their obscurity so we don't know whether it's one mod singling out this board or a whole bunch of them but the fact is, they've been fucking with us long enough. /aco/ was heinous enough, nobody fucking asked for it nor wanted it except some whiny extreme minority but they got what they wanted by spamming and flooding /qa/ about it and poof went a big portion of /d/'s content because fuck you that's why. But this, this is the fucking last straw. Those threads were fine, and again, it was a whiny extreme minority and the faggot mods who think they know better than the users of the board who decided for us that we suddenly didn't want them and can't have them anymore, despite being the more active threads on the board that produced tons of OC and much discussion. For the longest time /d/ was stuck in a rut of being little else than a futa image dump. and we finally started to branch out and discuss and make OC and now you faggots just took all of that away from us. For no fucking reason.

This is it. I've fucking had it and I'm sure a lot of other /d/ users have fucking had it with their shit regarding this board.

/d/ needs to revolt, and they need to revolt HARD. They need to send a clear message to the mods to FUCK OFF and stop meddling in boards whose culture and traditions they don't fucking understand because they think they know better. How the fuck can you know our board, let alone the site, better than we do since you're NEVER FUCKING HERE most of the time? How does circlejerking in your shitty little IRC all day with the rest of the mod team suddenly give you more insight than the users of the board on what we like and want to discuss? Fuck off and die, please.
>>
>>1429056
It's some guy that sees 4chan as a political prop. Needless to say the last vestiges of 4chan as something other than /pol/ activism would be immediately killed if he were to take over.
On the other hand, it'd finally spur people into creating more imageboards that aren't /jp/ in origin.
>>
>>1429748
Defy them and carry on posting the shit they want gone as if they don't fucking exist.

That shit drives people who get off on being authority fucking nuts. You're depriving them of their power when you ignore them.

The thing is though, it needs to be a group effort. everyone who is sick of this shit needs to come together, and agree to continue and carry on having threads no matter how much the mods try to delete/permasage them, and most importantly, we all have to agree not to acknowledge that anything is happening. The most important part of this is that the mods don't get a reaction other than sheer indifference.

Basically, get on your phone or your VPN or whathaveyou and start making OC again.

As long as he would hire mods that actually enforce the rules I'd be okay with it. Also more transparent moderation. The "quality of posts" excuse is random as fuck
>>
>>1429734
>mods like to hide behind their obscurity
This is a side wide problem. Moderation on 4chan is completely random. Some rules arent enforced at all, some just when the mod is butthurt, some just by particular mods while others ignore the rule(s). Global mods are a problem, too because most don't seem to get all of the single board's quirks. I imagine a mod seeing a /v/ thread reported with "what are some games where I can fuck my sister?" In the OP won't delete it because he thinks it's a thread about video games.
That it's a common shitposting opener to talk about off topic garbage doesn't occur to him.

That's a difficult question. Part of the "eternal september" epithet is true; 4chan is much more widely used now, and not limited to those who are truly enthusiastic. I would also blame PUA/MRA culture and the rise of /pol/; those folks are most often pretty mean-spirited, and not playful.
