After 17 days get my bike from Yamaha. They replaced clutch and basket and and performed recalls on cam tensioner and handlebar mounts. Drive hour home back from dealer. Go on first ride. My oil pan gasket they said they replaced still leaks....mother fucker.

Well i actually didnt have a bad ride on the rmx450 today, swear it takes less effort than my 300 to ride despite it weighing about 20kg more.
suspension is too soft and the rebound is just wrong though, hit two big bumps in a row and you nearly go over the handle bars because the suspension doesnt rebound fast enough

Hey /dbt/ I decided I'd help a friend of mine get his 525 exc running, the bike ran when it was parked 5 years ago. Any advice? I'm assuming I'll just drain the tank, take apart the carb let it soak and put it back together. If the bike starts running I'll throw fresh oil and coolant in. Anything else I should know? What should I look for on the carb to tell if it needs a rebuild.

Woohoo lads! Passed my Mod 2 test today. No longer restricted to a 125 shitbike. Practically, I still am though. Since it will take me a few months to save up for a bigger bike. Not sure what to go for though. I REALLY want a Street Triple but might go for an SV650 instead since they're cheaper and less hooligan. Maybe ride that for a couple of years then go full hooligan with the ST. For what it's worth, I did my training on an MT-07 and wasn't that keen on it. ABSOLUTELY NOT. If you want to directly look at it then you need a proper solar filter which blocks 99% of the light. Solar filter + Binoculars is an amazing combination. You can see indiviual sunspots. But you'll probably struggle on such short notice. You might be ok with a bucket of water and look at the reflection but you'd best check if this is safe, I'm not sure. Honestly, it's not worth the risk of your eye sight. You should NEVER look directly at the Sun. Even for a few seconds.

I had the option of buying a brand new Lexmoto chinkshit something or other for £1,200 or a 3 year old YBR125 for £1,600. I actually had the lexmoto on order from the dealer but then they phoned me to say there was a major issue with the brakes and they were ordering a replacement bike. This threw up a massive red flag and I immediately cancelled the order and went out next day and bought the YBR for slightly more. Something as big as that on a BRAND NEW bike isn't worth the fucking hassle. These cheap Chink shit will lose their resale value instantly whereas a YBR (or other decent make like Honda etc.) will typically keep it's resale value. You likely won't lose any money when you sell it again in a year. What route are you taking? Direct Acess straight onto an unrestricted license? I'd definitely buy a more expensive quality bike, ride for 3-6 months minimum (I did 12) then go straight into your DAS and sell the bike for almost the same as you paid for it. Chink shit will have likely fallen apart by this point and will be worth half what you paid for it. You're really not saving yourself any money.

250/300's, at least here in the states, hold their value very nicely. If you find the right deal, you can usually get back what you paid, if not more when you're ready to upgrade. I wouldn't go the chinese route, it's like noobs that want to build a cafe from a 70's bike for their first bike. You're going to spend as much time as possible riding, not fixing dumb shit that keeps breaking.

Redpill me on the (old) 390 Duke. What's the maintenance like? Should I buy one even though I'm poor? Or should I get a cheaper bike? I'm worried about maintenance costs, mostly. Insurance seems easily surmountable. And I would like to do some of the maintenance myself. It's part of the reason why I want a bike.
Other reasons are: easy parking, no road toll, I can keep it in my parents' garage during winter, riding bikes is fun.

It's cheaper up front than most of the other bikes in the upper end of the A2 limits. And you get them with lower mileage. Although... that may not be a good sign.
I'm open to suggestions, though. I was considering an older bike because I assume they'll be easy to work on. Like an SR500 or a CB350 or something. But... I'd most likely have to import it, and it probably wouldn't be as fun to ride as the Duke.

No longer need the YBR so I might be tempted to sell it to you for £1,200 if you're close by and interested. You know you don't need a bike for your CBT btw, they'll provide one. I'm not even sure how you could even use your own bike for it since you wouldn't legally be able to ride it from your home to their premises without a CBT in the first place.
