Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

AVOID asking unrelated questions, there is a question thread for that.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead (I recommend ShareX)

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

>Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images.
Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash.

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

I would say based on the artist, that they're too incompetent to do well because they're dumb enough to think this is enough to judge someone's ability.

There are a multitude of measurement issues which are very obvious when doing a side-by-side comparison. I'm working on it, promise (sometimes i get caught up in other parts) didn't want to polish this turd for too long, can anyone give their input regarding mostly blending techniques and identifying values?
>>
>>2853674
All your values are too light or too dark, not even like one of them is correct.
>>
>>2853667
I hate posting my pencil sketches here because they look almost invisible when scanned, and taking a photo makes it look horrible. From the dozens of pencil sketches I posted here, I only got one reply. So I only post digital art, which I don't have much patience to make because my traditional art is always better.

>>2853668
Everytime I post here someone identifies me. Damn, I didn't think it was this easy.

Look, I hate people who use their "style" as an excuse, but I saw good artists post their art here and everyone said it was wrong because it wasn't realistic. My art looks fine to me, A LOT to improve, but I don't think my style is something I should change. I think it's pretty, but that's my opinion.

So, not only you, but everyone here: Please be as sincere as possible and answer this question: BE SINCERE, if you think it's acceptable but not good, say it. You don't need say it's perfect or horrible, just say your accurate opinion:

IS my style something I should change? What, specifically? Is it just the nose? The eyes? The mouth? Or is it all just exaggerated?
>>
>>2853675
Oh I see it now. Very jarring. I didn't color pick at all so it's a huge step out of my comfort zone but challenging and fun. I will try harder next time!
>>
>>2853660
What are you looking for with a "VERY quick sketch?" Is that an excuse for poor quality?

There are perfectly valid critiques given to people who actually finish a piece. That is the true (and some might say -only-) measure of someone's current level. Something you put time and effort into - not a "quick" sketch.

You know like opening up a book and reading, but also thinking about what you rad.

You know how those people with tools have to build frames and stuff for houses, it's like that.

>Values
You know how there's the sun and like it creates light, but also shadow, that's what values are.

You know how sometimes people do scribbles on paper with a pencil? That's rendering.

I was doing my gesture study and it was going pretty well until I hit this image and everything went to hell, my lines went from just a few to a couple of hundred messy lines.

I'm not even sure why it was so hard to draw, it had a big c rhythm to follow but after that I could feel anything else to follow so it broke down into construction.

I have an internal conflict on what it is that I should be drawing, most of what I've seen and read shows me that I need to follow the movement of the body and avoid drawing contours so I'm constantly looking for movement.

That said I have no excuse, it is a simple image and I don't know how I fucked up so badly feeling it out.

Until a month ago, I hadn't drawn a single object that wasn't a stick figure or random scribbles since about age 7. I'm 25 now. Believe it or not, pic related was my attempt to draw from a reference about a week into it. I'm still months if not years away from attempting the references in this thread.

Despite my lack of ability, talent, or fine motor skills, I've decided to spend at least an hour a day in 2017 working on learning to draw. So if you ever feel unmotivated or unskilled, remember that there's an anon out there with the artistic skills of a kindergartner who's still trying every day to improve, and who you're already 10x better at drawing than.
>>
>>2853809
I have it on class mode where the time starts short but gets longer.

>>2853811
30 seconds isn't a very long time to construct or measure so I was trying to emulate Villpu's feeling out phase, I'm also battling to fight symbol drawing and once I start constructing I start thinking too much and can't capture the pose properly.
>>
>>2853813
>not even attempting to draw references

Anon, don't do that. Draw the references.
>>
>>2853813
So you found drawabox? That's a good start. Keep it up! But since you are old enough to already perceive things 3 dimensional try to consider 3 dimensional objects and all. Cylinders and boxes.
>>
I told myself I was gonna draw today but I didn't. I'm so disappointed in myself.
>>
>>2853821
Draw now, you slippery negroid.
>>
>>2853815
If you have problems with symbolism try staying in the shape territory. Draw the woman in cubes and rectangles so you learn that objects have depth and all. I don't think the movement direction is your (biggest) problem
>>
>>2853818
Gonna consider cylinders and boxes once I can draw a line that both doesn't look like a snake and actually starts and ends where I want it to.

>>2853817
Gonna consider the references then too.
>>

I'd say a huge problem is the jellyness of this person I don't feel weight or form. Just lines. Think about the inside. Draw cubes and rectangles. I know it will feel stiff but it will help. All the flowiness is fine once you understand how the object you are drawing reacts to it. Remember the keystones of a skeleton. Once you understand weight and form you can draw actual meaningful quick sketches. I attached a photo from a book by Hampton.

its not failed, its like 20% done,. If you ask me, whenever you are confused, "ruin" the painting and learn from your mistakes. Follow your instincts even if it is not going to look good at first. Never be passive, never get frustrated. Know this - you are a beginner, the product does not matter, in a year you are going to look at your past works as shit, in five years you are going to look at your past works as shit. Buy as much material as you can and start experimenting. Art isnt about feeling good, its about overcoming failure and mastery of oneself (wisdom lost on all of you well fed pussy americans). You will be fulfilled with your hard work. Be a role model.

I tried one more 3 minute drawing but more like I actually draw with some construction but I ran out of time quickly.

The problem is that when I draw I think a ridiculous amount what I'm drawing and it always comes off stiff and miss proportioned when I want to be more like the right side thinking memers and "see" the image instead of overexerting myself trying to fix symbol drawing with insane amounts of measuring, angle checking and constructing.

I'll just go back to building box people for now I guess.

Just for you I tried her as well. Still saying your anatomy is off. Mine is as well. But yours is ridiclious. Look at her. Look at her eye. Look how the ear alignes with the nose. How her ears are a typically small - her long nose pushing her mouth further to the chin. The sleepy look.

I know my version is shitty too but it took me three minutes the cheapest paper my office has to offer and trying to hide from my supervisor.

>>
>>2853885
I'm not afraid of hard work, I put in roughly 2-3 hours of practice in a day which I plan to increase once I get a better understanding of how to learn if that makes sense, my practice is still very directionless.

I think I got the message across wrong though it's just that usually I spend more time fixing mistakes than I do drawing and I feel like I can't be doing this right if I have to spend so long error checking each piece and measuring it.

>>2853886
I used to do some small drawings for my friends in a discord room until someone uploaded one to danbooru without telling me because he liked it and it got gunned down by the quality checkers with a 0 out of 8 vote to keep it which really damaged my confidence and showed me how bad I really was.

Instead of sulking about it forever I decided to start learning to draw for real instead of as a hobby, I'm not giving up until I can prove them wrong.

more specifically, the jawbone has to be less prominent but also has to be draw with lines. those lines arent cute but are necessary to describe the head from, for example, below.

>>
>>2853999
not sure what are you talking about, i just took a random page about gestures from hampton's book
btw its quite impossible to get good at gestures before tackling anything else, studying anathomy and understanding it is crucial for gestures. otherwise your gestures might capture the motion but remain the same mindless stick figures.
>>
>>2853999
does /beg/ say that?
>>
>>2853999

/beg/ is full of shit, gesture requires some foundational knowledge of proportion, anatomy, construction and observational drawing, otherwise you're just rushing your way through shitty drawings. I'd say it's at least an intermediate exercise.
>>
>>2853999
To be fair, it doesn't explain much. The previous pages go more in depth in terms of the mindset you have to be in to "get" it but there is nothing that you can do that will benefit your gesture drawings more than mileage. Then you'll actually know what it means to depict the strongest lines of action of poses.

The contrast of the values in shadow compared to what's being hit by light should be darker. Push that. In things like your ref, the background is a good place to sort of "check" your values so taking a minute to block in what's behind the subject is not a bad idea. You could also stand to be less scribbly with your lines because it would look 10x better. Also forehead too small. In fact the hair is all sorts of fucked up (just compare them side to side and see where the end of her hair falls off the side of her head). looking solid - glad to know you have an idea to think in terms of values instead of lines like everyone else in /beg/
>>

Fourth day on drawing, spent my 20 minute lunch break on it.

Really fucked up with the face, kind've happy with how the shirt turned out though albeit I wasn't able to finish it.

Used the keys to drawing recommendation of focusing more on your subject than your drawing.

forearms seem a little thick when you consider the neck, either thin them out or thicken out the neck
actually now that i consider it a bit more your neck is just too thin for everything
also the eyes don't seem to have much form, consider learning about the skull and how the forms rotate in 3-D space, ie. the eye is placed incorrectly when the angle of the face is taken into consideration

After embarrassing myself with my awful understanding of gesture drawing earlier I decided to try and cheer up with a quick sketch of >>2853924

I reached a point where there were issues glaring me in the face but I couldn't find them with flipping or negative space so I called it quits so any critiques would be super appreciated.

theres a couple big drawing errors that for some reason no ones talking about. for one its too narrow and theres things like the curves of the cranium are off. look at the eye socket vs the nose part youre is smaller compared to the ref and if you made it bigger youd be taking away from the rear mass. also you improvised the background color wrong. theres a strong light thats creating a 'black' shadow on the jaw near the hinge. you used the the background color when you should have used a darker value of the color you used for the bone.

Draw the head as a sphere and think of the facial features in 3D, don't be afraid of covering one eye with the nose, just follow the reference.

i looking for a tool that im not sure exists in photoshop. say i made a layer to add details over whats already there that are pretty much the same color, but i realized the color is wrong but i also like the drawing. is there an easy way to 'select' everything and go over with a soft brush with lower opacity and change the color. i know i could just use the magic wand thing but that seems to crude with the selection if that makes sense

Lock transparent pixels. This way only over whatever you have drawn is the only thing that will be hit by your brush when you go over it. Mess around with it in Photoshop for five seconds and you'll understand what it does.

What is this supposed to be? A sketch? Finish it up and repost. I don't care about your construction and outline man. I care about your result.
>>
>>2855411
what about gesture and proportions
>>
>>2855413
Gesture is all I, C, and S lines and shows the energy. This ain't gesture. The proportions are somewhat okay, the only part that's kind of fucked up is the torso and the hip. They're too close together. The shoulder is a bit fucked up too.
>>
>>2855412
its going to be a girl at a desk bored (i didnt draw the table in yet) im going crop it so her legs arent in the pic and there will be more focus on face. but i started doing with most the figure because you need to use gesture and such. i dont want to keep drawing if theres any major issues with the proportions or it looks dead/stiff or whatever like all my other figures do
>>
>>2855413

Those are not gestural lines tho, they are obvious attempts at perfectly doing the contour line on one try with very small lines. Gesture lines are wide, wild and free.

Like this Anon here did >>2853755
>>
>>2855392
The head is too tilted
>>
>>2855413
>>2855415
This. You're just doing the outline. Also the gesture isn't going to read well anyways with those scratchy lines.
>>
>>2855416
>i dont want to keep drawing if theres any major issues with the proportions or it looks dead/stiff or whatever like all my other figures do
Why not? You're going to kill yourself by not having any finished pieces.

sorry i didnt mean that as in this sketch is supposed to be a gesture sketch. its an outline of a figure i did on top of a gesture drawing because i always have problems with my drawings of figure from imagination. so what i really mean is does it looks stiff/not dynamic/etc?
>>
>>2855418

True, I can see it now. Thanks, Anon.
>>
>>2855423
Do not worry about stiff/dynamic meme and just finish the drawing. Those things really don't matter at a low level where you aren't able to fully compose a drawing.

Make sure to shade hair in clumps rather than individual strands. Try to recognize patterns of how the hair flows. There will most likely be multiple ways the hair is going, so make sure to keep note of he general directions.

am i going crazy or is trying to draw from life / recreating a photo reference wayy harder on a digital drawing tablet. with pen and paper i can get at least somewhat closer results, but with digital its a total catastrophe. feels way harder to relate to key areas and using the pencil to measure and check lines.
>>
>>2855514
courage,
mental effort,
take /ic/'s advice and stop the habit of polishing turds. i think you'd benefit from the fundie grind mentality. and from my observation what hinders you is the idea of "im drawing the lines so what more can i do". like your gestures a short while ago, you did a few of but did them mostly incorrectly and without learning despite some anons telling you to. i remember then you should have learned from villpu's gesture. the best advice i would have for you is that plus "be ok with drawing bad things" it might be the case that you are twisting your interpretation so as to see your work as better, so as to not feel bad about it. this must stop if you are to proceed. im not sure if you are the type to respond to insults positively (like myself) so i decided to write this without them.

listen mate just try your best.
>>
>>2855520
