The one about the middle age never existed

When did NK turn from a more or less standard communist totalitarian regime, if one can call such "standard", to a sort of monarchy of the Kims? Well, that's assuming that the dynasty really does hold power, and are not just figureheads for a broader group of elites... which I'm not sure about.

I'm guessing with the fall of the USSR and the communist block

Before that it was pretty much another average USSR dependant country. IIRC Kim 1 had the most relations with the eastern european countries rather than asian ones

>states left union over tariffs, as evident by the nullification crisis
>slavery was mentioned in secession papers to appeal to wealthy slaveowners
how accurate are these arguments?

How tight of a hold did papal authority have on Europe? Mostly asking about pre-Reformation and if it differed any between northern and southern Europe. As a side question what about from the Reformation and onwards in areas that stayed Catholic?

Also another question I have despite being unrelated, did any Orthodox Christians live in western or northern Europe? Was Orthodoxy considered a crime by Catholic or Protestant law?

Emperor Frederick II; "Stupor mundi" , the Wonder of the world.

Frederick was the son of the Emperor Henry VI and his mother was
the daughter of Roger I, the Norman King of Sicily. He inherited
this kingdom in 1198 when he was a child of four years.

When the opportunity came for Frederick to succeed as Emperor, the Pope intervened with conditions.

Frederick must promise to put down heresy in Germany with a strong hand. Moreover he must relinquish his crown in Sicily and South Italy, And the German clergy were to be freed from all taxation.

Having secured the imperial crown Frederick II stayed in Sicily, which he greatly preferred to Germany as a residence, and did nothing to redeem any of his promises to Innocent III, who died baffled in 1216.

Honorius III, who succeeded Innocent, could do no better with
Frederick, and Gregory IX (1227) came to the papal throne evidently resolved to settle accounts with this young man

the Pope addressed a public letter to the Emperor reciting his vices (which were indisputable), his heresies, his general misconduct and excommunicated him

To this Frederick replied in a document of diabolical ability.

It was addressed to all the princes of Europe, He made a shattering attack upon the manifest ambition of the Pope to become the absolute ruler of all Europe. He directed the attention of the princes specifically to the wealth of the church. He denounced the pride and irreligion of the clergy, and ascribed all the corruptions of the time to their pride and wealth.

He proposed to his fellow princes a general confiscation of church property--for the good of the church. It was a suggestion that never left the imagination of the European princes.

What region of the world is far more affected by materialism and hedonism to a point of almost no return, USA or Europe?

I used to think that due to the post WW2 developments it was USA but after visiting Europe I'm starting to think that Europe is far beyond it. Life seems to be reduced to drink, fuck and football.

No idea how bad it really is in USA though

>inb4 /pol/
I don't say this in /pol/ tier terms, I'm talking genuinely about how hard pure hedonism has penetrated a society.

Itt: Just weird historical things

When the Old Summer Palace was looted and destroyed by the British in 1860, one of the things they took was a royal Pekingnese dog. It was given to Queen Victoria and called "Looty." This is a portrait of the dog still in the British royal collection.

A ninth century document outlining the costs of various types of military equipment evaluated against the cost of a cow, shows just how expensive horses could be. A spear and shield were worth two cows; greaves would be valued at six cows; a helmet was also valued at six cows, and a sword and scabbard were worth seven. A horse for war, however, would cost 12 cows – twice as much as the cost of a helmet. And as any equestrian knows all too well, the initial purchase of the horse is the cheapest part of horse ownership; the mount’s keep over many years proving much more expensive.

Why are people saying country's are acting like cucks and promoting white guilt because of Muslim terrorists, like this is a new thing? How many infractions did Germany do in WWI, before they got called out on it? Same in WW2. Shit like this isn't new and all the faggots that are saying that don't know history past what they had for dinner yesterday

I'm reading through old newspaper archives and I'm currently on 1912. News about this and the Chinese revolutions are pretty regular but a bit chaotic.
What can you tell me about this war besides the first aerial bombing?
