Why didn't the Germans just take coats with them?
They tried, but German supply lines were too long to effectively supply the troops as they drove deeper into the Soviet Union.
as Germany advanced through the country, most of the exiting infrastructure of Ukraine and Western Russia was destroyed by the fighting, with paved roads bombed so much that they became impassable for trucks, and railways were torn apart and scrapped in the Soviet retreat. leaving Germany to have to slog through dirt roads and mud to get to the front which took over a month to do even without harassment from Soviet partisan fighters.
When the Germans began their advance on Moscow, they only had what was on hand to work with, as being resupplied with clothing, munitions, and tanks would take months and give the Soviets plenty of time to reinforce and fortify the city.
As a result, the Germans ran out of food and ammunition trying to take Moscow as well as no winter gear.
It's also worth noting that even if crucial supplies made it, they weren't useful in December/January, with temperatures dropping so low that gasoline froze inside truck and tank engines, making resupply at that point nearly impossible as it would have to be done either by horseback or on foot.
they had no problems stealing from locals.. why not just steal their clothes
Could they have focused all their might on Leningrad then worked their way down to Moscow, that way they could've been supplied by the sea and the river flowing down in that direction, also the front would've been smaller.
How didn't Brazil get small like other South American countries?
Portugal moved its capital their for a while, making it a powerbase for the first time
That's kind of the reason, when the court moved back to portugal I believe they put a member of the royal family in brazil to rule it and obe day he said to the lisbon court that he'd become independent and he did, creating the Empire of Brazil

Was that good or bad?
>>2779333
What? Independence? Who am I to judge? All I can say is that the imperial era was apparently an era of economic growth and improvement.
Shit went south after.

Thesis time boyos. I've been shamming my way through an oil history class and I need some sources on the Tanker War between Iran-Iraq, particularly about American energy security policy, covert actions, and motives behind the scenes. I've been reading Bryan Gibson's Covert Relationship and some Bacevich, along with some NSDD documents under Reagan and the Georgetown National Security Archives.

What are the most mysterious ancient civilizations and groups? I think the Native American mound builders, the Olmec, Minoans, the Gobekli Tepe builders and the people who built Catalhoyuk are fascinating.

The Japanese army of WW2 were the bravest men to walk earth.
>Closest things humans have become to fearless robots
>Lowest surrender rate of any army in history
>Highest casualty rates of any army in history (The chief reason behind this was that most soldiers would rather die, even miserable, agonizing and long deaths instead of surrendering)
>Literally fought to the very end and used every possible means to fight and if no other options than surrender, commit suicide
>Never stopped fighting even after WW2 ended (the last known Japanese soldier surrenderd at 1976 and his name is Hiroo Onoda)
>Never retreat unless given orders to do so
>Bayonet charges in the 20th century against machine guns, automatic weapons and tanks
>Kamikazes, young men trained a few weeks how to fly the shittiest airplanes Japan had, load them with bombs, flew them into enemy vassals and targets, sacrificing themselves at great numbers for the nation
>They never valued their lives over their duty and honor
When did such display of bravery at LARGE NUMBERS ever take place in history? never.

It is technically possible for someone's grandpa to have served in the Revolutionary war.
So in 1770's, a man in his 20's serves in the Revolutionary War, lives to be 100. At 100 he has an offspring in 1850's. His offspring male lives to be 100 and has a child at 100 in 1950's. That child today around 70 would be able to say their grandpa served in the Revolutionary war and met George Washington, etc. This scenario likely doesn't exist but I thought was very interesting. I would have to be a male to live to 100 because females go through menopause and lose reproductive function.
Plz reply, open for discussion
Is it even physically possible for a 100 year old man to impregnate a woman?

Probably BUT that doesn't mean it's likely.

>>2778519
No, that was merely the image he was trying to cultivate most important philosophers of the time did not like him, although he managed to get Voltaire by appealing to his decadence. He was extremely lucky that he did not lose the 7th Year War and some of his attacks were not justified.
If Bavaria would have been the most ruling and dominant state in the German Empire instead of Prussia, would WW1 even of happened?
Also why did the British Empire go to war with Germany in the first place? they literally had nothing to loose, and the Germans where taking out France which was the Anglo's natural enemy
>>2778448
Bavarian lead Germany would have most likely been a lot less militaristic and more based on catholic benevolence, closer ties to Austria and even maybe France could have happened
>>2778448
>Also why did the British Empire go to war with Germany in the first place?
This is something no German could ever understand. It's called "honoring your agreements" and "standing by your allies". Britain had sworn to protect Belgium's independence, had Germany not violated Belgium then Britain likely would have stayed out and Germany would likely have won.
>Bavaria
Likely we would have seen "Supergermany", incorporating Austria and possibly Switzerland, both Allemanic regions with strong cultural ties to Bavaria.
Bavarian lead Germany would spend 90% of their budget on castles.
