why is Safari always pointing Northwest?
>>58994027
its because when Steve Jobs came up with the logo he remembered that Mecca was always north west in his apartment at the time

Why is this and every fucking Windows computer's power management so fucking stupid? Why doesn't it truly go to sleep when I shut the lid? I adjust the settings to tell it to, but something either wakes it up while the lid is closed, or the battery just drains while it sleeps. This happens with almost every Windows laptop. Is it the OS, or the OEM that's fucking retarded here? Macs literally do not, and have never, had this problem. I could shut the lid on my 2010 Macbook Pro, put it in a drawer for 3 weeks, and open it up to 5% less battery and all my applications still there.

>Win 7 Pro
theres your problem
Win 10 is superior
I don't know man. I don't think I've ever used the sleep feature.

>The most widely used operating system in the world is Android
>almost all of the android source code is free software, either Apache or GPL
Why is Stallman not happy about this? It's quite an achievement for the FOSS movement if you think about it.
Because that's a mobile OS and mobiles are non-free by default.
Android as released by Google contains many nonfree parts as well as many free parts. Most of the free parts are covered by a pushover license (not copyleft), so manufacturers that distribute Android in a product sometimes make those parts nonfree as well.
From https://www.gnu.org/distros/common-distros.html#Android
How come no one interjects that android is really the so-called "gnu operating system". Or as I've taken to calling it, GNU+Android?
I can't get a straight answer from any fucking normies on other forums. I have a retail version of Windows 10 Home. How many computers can I install it on?

I got it for free.
One, retard.

Thanks for giving it to me straight, muchacho.
That's pretty fuckin gay tbqh. I've had Retail Windows 7 Pro since 2009 and installed+registered it on like 7 different computers using the same code. Did they just decide to start giving a shit or what?

So how big of a problem is smoking around computers?
I'll be moving in with my girlfriend and she's got the nasty habit of smoking indoors. Some windows are usually open as well as a fan going to keep the air moving.
With monthly up keep on cleaning my computer would the smoke still be that much of a problem? I've got the Fractal R5 so it's got several dust filters on there. But I don't think that would be enough.
Thoughts?
>>58992438
>about to go LIVING with a literal cancer factory

Dump her.
Get a nice HEPA unit, like the Winix 5300-2, or that big cylindrical Honeywell (not actually made by them, and you need to get third party filters if you don't want to stack three donuts). Or make her smoke outside. Even you-are-peeins have the sense to do that with smoking being the norm.

Why do my earphones always break after 7/8 months?
No matter what brand and how expensive they are, my earphones would consistently break after 7 to 8 months of use.
Is this planned obsolescence? Is 7/8 months their life cycle?
I'm just fucking tired of having to buy new ones so often and being a retard who buys sennheiser CX 3.00 premium earphones for $70 thinking :
>haha, these ones will last me longer, they're expensive after all
And they end up lasting as long as fucking 5$ gummy earphones before one side gives out
Is this some kind of jewish trickery I'm falling for? I just want earphones to use everyday that won't break a few months after I buy them
>>58992240
My cx300Ⅱ lasted for 4 years despite constantly in the washing machine
and I lost it
Just don't spend too much on IEMs. They all sound like garbage.
>>58992270
I don't understand. Maybe I had defective ones cause I had Cx 300 II's also and they lasted me 7/8 months as I said. Maybe I'm not taking enough care of them
The only breaking I have is with the cable, it's fucking annoying.
I never wind it up tight and pay extra attention to it not getting stuck between the door or whatever and shit still breaks.
I can fix the cable myself but it's such a hassle when it happens too often.
Recommend me a photo viewer. Something very simplistic.

Hi /g/, as a 10 year user of the windows, I finally fell for linux meme after tinkering with ubuntu on a live usb for a few hours. I want to become a main committer to linux kernel so yes, I will install gentoo after learning about things. I installed some programs and applied some themes but I don't know how to proceed from here. Do I start reading phyton documentation? What did you do to uncover your inner hax00r, /g/?
>>58991249
Why wouldnt you just install it in a VM and have the best of both worlds
>>58991260
I tried but it threw random errors at my face every time I used another distro. I used oracle vm btw.
>>58991269
That is definitely interesting. I used oracle vm and that is my sole experience with Linux. Fedora had internet connection issues and Ubuntu lagged like crazy.
Are SSDs safe to use yet? I don't feel comfortable storing mass data in volatile memory.
>>58991054
yes
>>58991054
I've been using one for five years, never had a problem.
>>58991054
I'm pretty sure they are really safe now, unless you use /csg/ SSDs.
But it could be dangerous if you live in a place where there are many power outrages or w/e is writting ayyy.
But for laptops is absolutely fine unless you don't have the battery for it and don't have the original charger, since it could fuck shit up the hardware including the SSD.
Bump for you and >>>/g/sqt
Just this morning I still held cautious respect for google. They've always been competent enough to not get in my way, despite being botnet.
But now I'm locked out of one of my email accounts. Pic related is what comes up when I enter the correct email and password. There is no phone or email associated with this account because I'm not a fucking retard who ties all his accounts together because he can't generate and remember strong passwords.
I've done nothing wrong yet google is able to outright cripple my operations without telling me what they have a problem with. This email happens to be the one I use for domain registration and hosting.
When did things get so bad? When did every fucking website require you to have an account using a bloated, outdated, and frankly broken protocol which is hard if not impossible (depending on isp) to host yourself?
In any case, google can die in a fire. What do I use for email now, /g/?
>>58990893
>I'm not a fucking retard who ties all his accounts together
Yet you're too retarded to read english
>>58990900
how do you figure
>>58990900
I've already tried all the options on that page.
Plus, it's not ok for it to be asking me for a phone number for verification when there never was a phone number associated with the account before.
Isn't it the greatest computer ever, /g/?

Honestly I wouldn't have an issue with Apple products because they do have their specific usages. However I have grown to hate Apple users. So many Apple users I have encountered as just walking billboards -- shills. Totally braindead.

>Yahoo revealed in September the theft of 500 million records, then thought to be the largest theft of records in history, only to reveal in December a separate theft of one billion records.
>Yahoo said that hackers were later able to get access to accounts without needing passwords after stealing the company's source code used to generate cookies.
http://www.zdnet.com/article/yahoo-warning-users-that-hackers-forged-cookies-to-access-accounts/
One billion fucking account details. This has to be the biggest in history. Fuck I even have a old Yahoo account I don't even use anymore
ya theres nothing in my account, probably the same for most people
i doubt they found anything special.
>>58990772
Hear, hear. I remember to check my account today, and it seems to be deleted. No trace of it.
>>58990772
The point of this isn't whether or not the hackers got anything it's how can anyone trust Yahoo after all this?
