So I've just gotten into FC. The automated surgery gave one of my slaves a "unnaturally narrow waist" that gives her a cartoonishly hourglass figure. Fuck that. Is there a way to fix this?

I can't even clear the tutorial because I keep on running out of money at right about the time she starts obeying.
I've read some guides and tried to follow their advice* but while it's certainly helping it's not enough.
I've had a total of two slaves that I brought higher than F-; one that was Unashamed (she went insane before I could sell her) and one that was Open (I managed to get her to D+ after 3 decades and sold her for 200 sparks at the Guild Auction).
I believe the difference between those two and the 3 dozen+ other slaves was that I could actually get them to do something. Most others wouldn't do anything (not even "normal" training, like fitness, housekeeping, nursing, etc.) without lots of punishment, and that made them depressed, fearful, and eventually mindbroken.
What can you do with uncooperative slaves to raise their obedience enough for something useful? Furthermore, what can you do to quicken the process of breaking a slave?
*(move to an apartment day 1 and then pick up Isabella from the slums, put a leather collar on your slave, give her a sundress when she starts obeying, set her rules to "no masturbating" and "force rules", always under-praise her, cast Magnific Domina every day)
Yeah, which is why I haven't played such games before, way too grindy.
Hell, FC is (sadly) getting to that point to me. I'd just wish to have a quickstart option (or alternatively be able to save a preset that isn't going to get outdated by the next update).
Alternatively, FC dev could allow for the hardcoded slaves to serve as a sort of "preset" for people who just want to jump in quickly without having to micromanage the start each time an update borks up using old saves.
Then again, I'm a switch, it may just be that I am a bit tired of playing dom but there have been no interesting sub games lately (and Trap Quest is still being too buggy for me to revisit it, I am waiting for Aika to fix the bugs the new updates brought, because as good as they are I don't want to spend a lot of time on that game only for it to crash half-way)
I can give you some tips but it's from 1.5. It shouldn't be that different tho.
Leave the tutorial alone, pick an easy character or better, create yourself an op one.
If you like to hunt your own slaves like me, create a fighter, buy a weapon and learn a technique.
Savescum, learn the different kind of monsters, how to defeat them, where are the limits, savescum because some fight are just bs.
Sale the slaves at the market (butchery if the prices are too low), and learn what the game consider a good starting slave or a bad one.
Learn more techniques, one at the time, study the weapons, go the arena some more.
After one or two months you'll master this part of the game, and you'll have enough money to waste on a slave.
Bath every day/two day too, and visit the brothel. Also savescum.
For slaves in general, try to keep them happy, and clean. Specialize them, sell a C+ to the guild auction, hunt/buy a new one and grind your way up.
You know what I need?
I need to be able to set limits for what my head girl can do with her toys.
On one hand, I want to coddle her. On the other, I feel sorry for the girl I send to stay with her.
Head Girls be crazy.
And to think they may have been rebellious before and yet give them position of power and slave to do as they wish and they go crazier than most Arcology owners.
The only reason I don't do these kinds of things, is that FCA hasn't written the game so that she would notice.
What is the point of revenge if the person thinks she's just unlucky?
Latest version of FC, the Dev added a new hook, slaves who are related and accidentally start a romantic relationship get a pretty significant devotion hit every week for disturbing themselves.
I inevitably get that "mother in debt" event and naturally enslave both of them, then keep them as personal toys until they're obedient. As soon as I let them have friends, they almost always go after each other, but that's never been a problem before.
Now they're stuck dropping in obedience despite everything else I do for them, but I don't want to break their relationship because muh fetish. Then even fucking married each other, at which point I would think they would stop being surprised by anything.
I'm sure getting the Egyptian future would help resolve this, but I kind of in a pickle here. Especially since they're geniuses and I really need mom running my brothel or something.
FC has a chastity belt, which can't be put on shemales or geldlings.
IIRC FC has said that more chastity content is on the to-do list, but it's not high-priority because it's a lot of extra coding in every event to take chastity into account.
One incest related bit of content I really want in FC is being able to use the mother to encourage her daughter into being a better slave. More specificity, during the mother/daughter recruitment event you'd think it would be in the mother's own interest that her daughter meets your expectations so that she isn't punished.
So as well as the regular new slave introduction options such as "Make her an ornament" and "Tie her up and whip her", I think an option such as "Have her mother set an example" would be relevant, advantageous and hot.
Cue a scene in which the mother serves you a little and encourages her daughter to finish you off.

Aphrodisiacs can improve any slave to 'feminine' (1 step short of maximum), but they have to first become addicted, and then become 'a confirmed addict' (which takes a few weeks after addiction).
After that, facial beauty going up becomes a random chance each week, although you run the risk of becoming a permanent addict if you stay on them too long.
The current longest recruitment scene is about 160 words or so, so I'd try to stay below that, certainly no more than 200 or so. If you really want to write a few paragraphs about this it'd be better as an event.
a square is either a screen, a part of a screen (eg the line for a slave in the list of slaves), or some background processing that doesn't make it to the screen (eg generate XX slave). Most of those squares are events, some embeds others. Lines are some of the transitions between screens, twine seems to have a hard time listing them all out.

Does any one else want to see more choices for the mercenary recruitment events? I was kinda hoping for different styles of protection instead of a generic military unit we could get an old world CIA/secret police force that wouldn't disturb the populace, but would require more money and a base level of reputation, or maybe we could do some kind of an atlas shrugged and recruit the best tech and engineering minds to upgrade the arkology's drones and AI to skynet levels.
I can already image a few scenes.
I'm guessing that at some point FC is going to be rebalanced and slaves are going to take longer to break and take longer to recover. At which point stuff like the prison and spa will be useful.

The chastity fetish is (to me) about the frustration. They need to have the same drive they always did, but be unable to satisfy it. Plus, cages are cute and embarrassing. Also, you could torment a slave in chastity by having them bound, uncaged, and teased mercilessly, and then when their frustration and horniness is at its peak, make them agree to something degrading or go back in the cage.

Basically, the concensus is: Better than RAGS, needs better documentation, playing around with the interface is nightmare.

This is the biggest single problem for engines that don't have a huge number of games like Infocom/Inform does. Why make the end user install some extra stuff for one game that's 90% likely to be shit anyway?
It isn't necessarily "better" than Twine. Various engines exist to fulfill various needs. Twine is designed for Choose Your Own Adventure (CYOA) games. It allows users to easily create branching storybooks. Going beyond that, however, requires some finagling on the part of the author.
Twine was not designed with this >>6626407 sort of architecture in mind. Usually, Twine stories would look more like the picture I've uploaded. For something like this, I think Quest might better suit author's needs.

The other side of that coin is making an end-user run an unverified executable from an anonymous source. It's unfortunate that there are so many different engines, but there isn't much to be done about that.

Woah. I just now found out that Madams can clear quirks in FC. I've been making sure to scrub them myself before moving slaves to the Brothel, for the most part.

Unless FC Dev has changed it since last I played, I don't think being dumb has any impact on subordinate servants, milk slaves, or similar jobs. Don't need a brain if you're cleaning all day or if you're a pair of tits with legs. I tend to buy dumb girls for these positions because they're cheaper and their devotion rises faster.

There's also an all-natural vs surgically modded variety bonus that's newer than the others. And some Future Societies mean there's one less thing to worry about - Slimness Enthusiast / Asset Expansionist means you only need to have slim or stacked slaves respectively for the perfect bonus. Same with Body Purist / Degradationist for tattoo and piercings, Body Purist / Implant Fetishist for modded vs unmodded.
No, the red ones are just the passages with bugged links. Twine 2 shows them that way if they don't link properly the way it wants. It's supposed to be helpful for the author.

A little tip for those playing FC, don't delete your weekly autosave. It will prevent you from saving at all, saying your browser doesn't support it. If you delete it anyway it easy to fix, just play for a week and it will create a new one and allow you to save.
It's not terrible but it requires a lot of effort to play. And the tagline about choosing whether to use bionics or not is a lie; you are inevitably outclassed if you don't use bionics so if you want to continue playing you must use them.
Also the combat is tedious, unavoidable, and guaranteed to happen every few weeks.
Most of them are pretty obvious. The only tricky ones are Romans (like prosperous arcologies, rich owners, and fights in the arena), Egyptians (like incestuous relationships between slaves, having slaves of many races, and having 5+ fucktoys), and the Chattal Religionists (like Worshipful slaves and girls in habits/hijabs/uncomfortable collar/steel collar).
I've been playing Fairy Fighting for the first time and no matter what I do, I just can't get past Roper...
AFAIK, intelligence affects performance in most jobs; it just has more of an impact in some areas than others. Intelligent slaves will do better at all but the most mindless of tasks... an increase in performance which may or may not be worth the increased difficulty in keeping them appropriately subservient, depending on the task.

I had a quick go with Fallen a while ago. I only played it a little but I stopped because I was getting the impression there wasn't much content and a lot of unfinished routes.

It depends image to image I feel. Sometimes it's quite obvious that a character with a flat chest is older than 18 because of their height or face.
But then you get characters who you would think are suppose to be 18 or older yet still look very young. And I don't think mods give the benefit of the doubt.
Breast size is often the deciding factor in that example. If they look like they could be too young, but have massive tits, then it's easy to just assume that they are 18 but the artist's style makes them look younger.
It's the little things in life.

Finally figured out how to un-mindbreak slaves reliably.
1) Give them a smart piercing, set it to either breasts or pregnancy.
2) Put them in a fully upgraded dairy with a young, smart, educated milkmaid.
3) Allow pregnancies.
Mindbroken slaves that get pregnant will react to the miracle of a new life growing inside them by developing a pregnancy fetish and snapping out of their mental exile!
(They'll still be "very slow", sadly, which is why a stay in the schoolroom is recommended once they do snap out of it).
Still working on how to do this with slaves that have no way to bear children.

The rough lines I'm thinking of is a simplified slavemaker-style, where you choose 1-4 actions per day, random stuff happens, monstergirl shenanigans, base expansion, etc. Basically Excel with porn, like many other games out there.

IIRC the British Empire is a bit of a convoluted case of having a an indirect claim as a successor to the HRE (like Germany + Austria-Hungary and earlier than that Spain having had an HRE Emperor as a King) yet you'll notice that the British monarchs never called themselves Emperors themselves (just like the Spanish ones didn't).
Just like they claimed for centuries to be the de jure Kings of France (up until the late 18th century) even if they had lost all territories on the French Mainland long ago.
Japan is a different case, they are related to the Chinese Dynasties and like China were therefore an "Empire" (which was mostly supposed to tell them apart from the smaller petty Kingdoms in Asia) but for centuries the Emperor had been mostly a religious figurehead (think of it as if the Pope had been Holy Roman Emperor, but with no own country and even less political power over his subjects)
I've got no idea if it would be possible to implement, but an Indian revivalist path that lets you divide slaves into different castes would be neat

I think not, instead it forces you to do an ironman run (sorta). You can save and quit but you cannot run multiple saves or softload the game.

I have a GTX 970 and Hypno Slave lags me, too. The mouse never works properly with it. Also, right clicking to close things occasionally breaks the UI. I recommend just putting the game in full screen.
Are you pumping money directly into supporting them?
I've noticed that if you choose a FS option, don't directly fund it, and get more 'negative' responses to it than 'positive' ones in the first week (like, say you have a bunch of white slaves and choose White Supremacy) it basically dies stillborn.
You need to make sure either you're already doing stuff that FS will prefer and/or pump money into supporting it out of your own pocket.

Meanwhile, I had the event with the Daughters of Liberty contacting me and asking if a slave wanted to be free. I chose the option to lobotomize her but it didn't exactly take. Her summary showed as being Mindbroken, but she didn't lose any intelligence. She fit a fetish change in the next week, and put her back to normal instead of Mindbroken, but I already knew about that bug.
It seems like the actual intelligence lowering and skill 'forgetting' happen between turns, so if you had her in fetish-inducing clothes or something (like a buttplug maybe) then she could get the fetish ushed on her, which un-Mind-Breaks her.
Honestly, I still think the better way to handle that event is to let the slave go. You can recapture her in the final assault if you choose the right choices leading up to it and/or have fully-upgraded mercs.

And now I realize "and have the new slave finish the master off" was part of anon's original request. I suppose it can be accommodated, but I don't know if it's possible for new relatives to spawn with low devotion. Generally, low-devotion slaves resist and LOSE devotion when being pushed into such things, so "sharing a moment" at the first family reunion could theoretically backfire.
If you want a no-loss scene of familial sharing, the best place for it would be in the "fuck her with her X" option inside the slave's page, or maybe as a random passage at the bottom of the main page.
I think I see your point. Like, an event that fires when (relative A) is more skilled in a particular area than (relative B), during which relative A asks master to demonstrate on her so that B can learn.
Would need to make sure there's a virginity gate (heh) so that virgins who got taught skills by head girls don't break their virginity actually demonstrating said skills.

As for line breaks, it's going to be copied over into Twine assuming FCD gives it the thumbs-up so IMO it's better to leave it unbroken and let him add the breaks to fit the current format there. Lot easier to add breaks to an unbroken chunk of text than to fix them on an improperly-broken chunk.

Original poster, and I can confirm I'm still getting the same message. My arcology is fully upgraded and I've built up enough fame to start a second Society track.
The second track is proceeding along, and the first track is still in the catch-22 of needing more encouragement to remodel and needing remodeling to be more encouraged.
I'm not literate enough in Twine to say what the problem is.
Boney (or FC Dev if you're around), I have a question. Does FC keep track of sold slaves?
I think the answer's no. Only one case where it does comes to mind - when the master decides to release a slave for the Liberty plot chain, and then makes the proper choices to recover same slave.
The reason I ask is because I have a few event ideas revolving around re-buying sold slaves. If the game doesn't remember sold slaves, though, such things are moot outside a plot chain.
Sold slaves are completely zeroed out. For the Liberty plot chain, the slave in question is saved as $traitor before being zeroed out from the slave list as usual.
It'd be possible to change things so a sold slave could show up later as a random event, probably by having a random chance of saving a slave when sold if one isn't already being 'kept' to keep bloat to a minimum. You should check with FCD, though, to ask him what happens to slaves once sold - I'm not sure if they're all supposed to be bought by citizens in the player's Arcology, by citizens of other arcologies in the city, or by the entire international market.
Even if FC loses track of all sold slaves, I think one of my ideas is still worthy of an exception - a further development on the "merc in love" plot event. The idea is that the slave and the merc had a "falling out" and he's about to sell her to the highest bidder, with options for the player to either quietly re-grab the known (and therefore prestigious) slave who gets a devotion boost due to being heartbroken, or to do a media blitz (think "former media darling simply can't help but yearn for her old slave life!" spun into a soap-opera-tier news item) to boost player rep / slave prestige another step at the expense of slave devotion.
The other idea was to have a slave whose relative has been sold off stop by the glass door of the master's office while master and AI are arguing about business decisions. AI then points out to master that the slave recognized her relative from one of the many market feeds, at which point the master would have the option to re-buy the relative (at normal market price) for a big devotion boost, refuse for devotion loss, or (for particularly cruel masters) "test drive" the relative - have her brought into the office for an "examination", then have the option to just toss her back into the market while the current slave watches the whole thing.
But that second one would require the game to keep track of any and all slaves sold who have a relative on the current roster. If FC doesn't already do that, implementing it may slow the game down considerably.
The first would be very easy, but not sure if FC wants to taint the romance of the merc in love event by having it end badly.
The second would be a lot trickier, not only would you have to preserve her stats somewhere but you'd have preserve the relation on the remaining slave.
On the second - the *relationship status itself* gets zeroed out when a relative is sold? I thought it just didn't get displayed, so the slave wouldn't generate another relative? Is there anything in the code to stop a sister whose sister you've sold from asking you to buy another sister?
On the first - I was actually thinking of a short "check up on the merc" event as a lead-in, where the player gets to decide (by clicking a link) whether the slave and the merc are "living happily ever after" (which would disable further events in chain) or "having marital issues" (which would enable what I posted >>6629185 here).
But yes, messing with other people's plotlines never goes over well without permission from the original author.
Whenever a slave is acquired, it checks to see if they might have a relative to buy, and if so they're made the $recruitermother or $recruitersister, overwriting any past slaves that had a chance of recruiting relatives. And if the relative is bought, that zeroes out the recruiter stat. So that'd prevent multiple relatives.
This is what it takes to making a scene in anything.
At its most basic, code is an assortment of a) conditional statements (if X then do Y, else if Z do J else don't do anything) and b) pieces of code holding values (slave.devotion = 4) which can be reset (set slave.devotion = -3452).
The basic architecture is just setting variable values, checking variable values, resetting variable values under some conditions and printing expressions under some conditions.
Calling programming languages, languages, is very proper. The major hurdle with coding isn't learning the basic logic of it, but with acclimating yourself with the way that more or less same logic is expressed in each language.
