The source of your fear is your inner child's attachment to an artificial comfort. A child holding a teddy bear and crying. Mother says you have to be big and strong.

I see the teddy bear gutted. You have to destroy something you love, whether it is a relationship or some other emotional attachment, someone or something that makes where you are comfortable.

Ya, you have to break an emotional attachment in a brutal way that makes it horrible to be where you are. You'll lose the fear very quickly after that. It's not the only way, obviously, but it came up as the most efficient way. I've done it before, and I can tell you it's not pleasant to watch yourself being an absolute asshole to a good friend and not being able to tell them that, despite how it seems, you still care, and this is just something you have to do.
