Hey that's right I forgot! What spooky occult shenanigans will you guys be getting into this evening?

I have an interesting experience to relate that I would like to know if anyone has shared...
>>
>>18972274
So, I was invoking the Lux prior to Lesser invoking hexagram rite and Bornless, and at the moment of "IAO" I began to feel kind of like I had taken a mild hallucinogen, and had a distinct vision of three Hebrew letters above me...I guess they manifested astrally or some such thing...they were glowing a greenish blue. Anyone have this happen before?
>>
>>18972281
That really only just means the shit's working.

If you're not getting that sort of effect with rites lower down the totem pole you need to work on that.
>>
>>18972302
I mean, I've just never had it so intense. I usually feel like an electric sort of feeling from the Qabalistic cross and the Analysis of key word, I have never felt like I was tripping, though. So, maybe I'm getting better, or..?

The letters were Lamed, Yodh, and either Kaph reversed or Qoph without the vertical. Couldn't make much of it, but the whole 60 and 140 gave me a bit of insight

Ape, in the last thread I noticed someone commented that one should use the dagger for both the pentagram and hexagram rites...now I have heard three different things from three different people... I'm assuming that what you told me-wand for both unless on the mental plane- is the standard OTO/A.'.A.'. procedure?
>>

How do glamours work?
>>
>>18972331
Wand is standard *grimoire*.
Dagger is standard *GD*.
Sword is standard *order*

And you can mix it up; spears, scourges, etc.

I don't like blades because their default symbolism is of the mind.

Was going to try a summoning as in the /sum/ pastebin.

What's the reason for trying to summon at a time that mercury is rising or peaking? I assume it gives better results than the classic X days after a full moon? It will be quite a wait for the spirit I want to summon.

Also do the spirits not get pissed off at the whole "Behold your conclusion if you be disobedient" thing? Wanting to summon Marbas without getting buttraped.
>>
>>18972336
Oh hey ape, I saw your pic uou actually look heaps like my brother its uncanny.

Do you collect staffs as well as books?
>>
Are there any good occult discords or IRCs where a newbie can pester legit magicians with questions?
>>
>>18972389
Because evoking the planet makes your control over the entity stronger, and your planetary rite will be stronger when your planet pops the horizon or hangs at its throne.

>Behold your conclusion if you be disobedient"
If you're doing things right the entity should be pliant and agreeable; ready to take instruction and quickly fuck off. You really only need to escalate if they do.

If you're getting to the third oration you need to revise your tech as something making you entity pissy.
>>
>>18972399

>>
>>18972426
Hell you still may get great results really depends on your level of skill. I've done a lot of freeform Lemegeton. Following the 'rules' gets me marginally more satisfactory results.

I thought we were talking about Lemegetonic/Solomonic traditions.
>>
>>18972464
No I am! I just don't know where to start, what are some rituals you have read in books that you do and worked?
>>
>>18972430
I'm thinking of going up to an old rock quarry that exploded back in WW1 and evoking there...there are some great, out-of-the-way spots that I could just chalk my circle onto...what are the potential consequences of having someone stumble upon me mid-rite, even though I highly doubt I would break concentration? Is concentration really the only thing to worry about, or are there more potential issues if this does happen?
>>
>>18972468
You're gonna want to learn The banishing and invoking rites, and become accustomed to them for about a year, before you hit up dat Lemegeton.
>goosebumps
Is that the last book/series you read?
>>
>>18972469
>what are the potential consequences of having someone stumble upon me mid-rite,
You keep going.
Maybe start in on the pseudo-latin.
Get creepy with it so they fuck off.

>are there more potential issues if this does happen?
I mean not really unless it's the cops coming to tell you to fuck off back to your own (((property))).
>>
>>18972472
No I also read, the lion the witch and the wardrobe.

I want to jump in thr deep end, I'm cool and shit, I watch supernatural, I know how to deal with demons
>>
>>18972409
This was helpful, thanks.

>Because evoking the planet makes your control over the entity stronger, and your planetary rite will be stronger when your planet pops the horizon or hangs at its throne.
Is there any reason why mercury in specific does this?
>>
>>18972476
Ok cool, AFAIK it's public property, but I know a lot of kids go up to drink and get high...I mean, so do I, but only for a change of scenery. The cops have been known to show up, but I don't think they would be able to figure out what to charge me with. That's a great idea on the creepy $#!+...thanks!!!!!!

So where does like, taking psychedelics become more acceptable than alcohol? Is it because they act on different parts of the brain to extremely different effect?
>>

Most psychedelic effect gets centered on pyramidal cascades of the 5-HT2a receptor.

Booze goes to town on dopamine and GABA.

It becomes more acceptable when it's applicable or called for.

If you have another chance, go to mescaline immediately. Sulfate or hcl or whatever.

I am not looking forward to eating all these extra tannins from cactus, tea and a powder that looks like dried up tea or something. That being said I hope to reach a point where my desire to reach certain areas of my mind isn't fully tossed into air by the amount of material it would take to get me there. A big part of the banishing and meditating in most courses is to help you enter a different frame of mind when starting a magic rite. Meaning at least you shouldnt be depressed or whatever during the ritual.

is there a point to summon a spirit and not request anything?
>>
>>18972855
Think of the success of a spell as an equation like chances of success = destiny + (effort * power). Destiny is what you were meant for, if you were meant for wealth chances are you'll get it. Effort is the effort you put into the spell like making sure planets are in the right position and the moon phase is perfect. Power is the inherent power of the spell (ie some Wiccan shit off spells.com probably not the best. Tho some ancient spells aren't good either).

>>18973813
It's a bit like calling someone and not speaking. Not very polite. But good practice. You could summon a being and then not request something but still offer soemthing to them / offer to do them a favor.
>>

>implying Jung's ignorance of the modern understanding of the mind is an excuse to mainline spirits

It's not.

Now, sure, there are phenomena which we can cause. A significantly more likely explanation than spirits is simple telepathy, which the CIA repeatedly proved, over and over again.

Now this doesn't mean that spirits 'don't exist'.

All I am saying is, most likely:
99% of magick altogether is physical, well-known brain stuff.
99% of the remaining 1% can be explained with telepathy alone.
The remaining 0.0001% *might* be spirits, but it doesn't have to.

And while I agree that the psychological model misses a lot of important points... the neuropsychological one doesn't.
>>
>>18974460
>the neuropsychological one doesn't.
Except it misses all of the ethnographic data that the psych model does.
Almost got my master's in neuro. Still doesn't convince me. Mostly because of the phenomenology of alterity.
>>
>>18974473
Why would you need ethnographic data, when realistically all you need to take into account is fundamental neurological functions, and an understanding of how the various parts of the brain (namely the Limbic System and the Neocortex) interact?

I mean, sure, you can overlay whatever on top of it, however the core mechanism remains the same across all humans.

As far as the "other"... I don't know. It's not been part of my work for a long time now, as I've moved more into doing business than magic.
>>
>>18974483
>Why would you need ethnographic data
Because rejecting the perspective and culture of the experiencee lops off half of the interesting material, particularly that which doesn't jive with our modern mechanistic understandings.

>fundamental neurological functions
And we still ain't got 'em between PET and fMRI.
I got like seven books on the nuerological model. None of them parse alterity. For what reason can we have a compound with the exact same profile of receptor agonism, particularly w/r/t 5-HT2a, and one produces alterity and one does not? Obviously due to factors outside of the chemical profile.

I ain't saying the neuro shit's not efficacious and interesting - nor that the spirit model is the end all be all.

I'm saying they're ALL weak in their own ways and it's probably best to reject models writ large in favor of literal holism to the point where model strengths and weaknesses cover each other into consistency.
>>
>>18974489
>For what reason can we have TWO compounds with the exact same profile
I mean this is the hard question of the neuro side; it can't be minor chemical differences at the atomic level as analogous compounds have the same display. Can't be pathway selection because pyramidal cascade is a system wide and amplifying phenomenon. Can't be region targeting because see previous reason plus fMRI and PET data.

This brings me back to my strange feelpinion that the chemicals themselves house spirits.
>>
>>18974493
Is there an ultimate truth?
>>
>>18974489
>Because rejecting the perspective and culture of the experiencee lops off half of the interesting material, particularly that which doesn't jive with our modern mechanistic understandings.

I'm really not sure that's the case. Furthermore, while I can appreciate the value of modeling and emulating stuff from history, it doesn't really introduce anything of functional value without a shit-ton of work, which makes the effort very, very expensive.

>>fundamental neurological functions
>And we still ain't got 'em between PET and fMRI.

So... neuroplasticity, memory recall. Those two make up at least 80-90% of what's used in magick/ persuasion.

To say that we don't understand them is a bit weird, since we do understand them quite well, especially from a practical angle.

>I'm saying they're ALL weak in their own ways and it's probably best to reject models writ large in favor of literal holism to the point where model strengths and weaknesses cover each other into consistency.

Sure, agreed. However keep in mind that I haven't done magick, nor has it called to me in years. While I can appreciate the cultural value of it, it hasn't really brought me one, or even half a step forward with my life, when compared to focusing on more actionable methods.

Fair point. Yet it has no bearing on anyone beyond the practitioner. Once we get into telepathy/ large-scale influence territory, that's when things are going to get interesting.

>I dunno, show me a nine or so valid Adepts with decent handle on the powers implied by the grade and we'll start pilot testing the extent of 'reality leverage'.

I don't believe there are such people. Shit, I've put in the work over nearly a decade, and I don't even believe I've worked up to 3=8, no less 5=6.

>>

My problem with it is that it's a hype-fest on one hand, marketed as THE BOOK FOR EVERYONE... while at the same time being explicitly written towards the more intellectual crowd.

Now, it's good for the strategy part, but it's just outperformed by literally any book on tactics (such as Cialdini's "Influence", or Teppo Holmqvist's "Persuasion").

And if you have the latter, and marginal consistency in what you do, you don't really need the former, unless you're a jackass.

Magic/Spiritual all day every day.
It's a lifestyle choice.
Coffee - all day. A constantly revolving brewing of coffee, and drinking of coffee.
Work - slaving away at the Salt mine, vying and struggling for the promotion to R&D that I've been promised that never materializes.
Navigating dealing with my family who never quite get it, and who I honestly feel little emotional attachment to.
Doing necessary superficial things to keep up with appearances of normality - getting my hair done, getting my nails done, and so on.
But, in the middle there's long walks in the woods appreciating the beauty of the Spirit of the physical world.
And, in the words of Sevis, lots of banging sticks and bones together.

I would keep re-reading. It's a gradual process, considering that the Qabalah literally pertains to everything. A lot of people bitch about it being 'worthless,' but they must be applying it in a strictly exoteric manner, or just don't understand. I personally find the system invaluable.
Just skim around Ape's library if you're looking for Celtic paganism or anything like that.

What does /x/ know about incredibly powerful curses?
I Suspect that my lineage is the victim of a curse. The kind of curse that drives almost entire generations to suicide.

I would like to break it or circumvent it so I can die a normal death when my time comes, unlike most of us.

Will provide back story if you guys deem it necessary, be warned its a real fucking sob story.

>I Suspect that my lineage is the victim of a curse. The kind of curse that drives almost entire generations to suicide.

That would be a genetically inherited serotonin or dopamine imbalance.

Eat some meds.

Well sure, at face value it would make sense to assume this.

But I haven't given you my evidence (if you can call anything you've ever found of this board evidence of anything other than role-playing and schizophrenia)

>It is, at least for a good while. Exposes the pleasures of manipulation. I'm glad you're having a good one.

MEHHHHH.

It's more of a time/reward sort of thing. I still don't have everything down, but $2k for a week's worth shouldn't be too far off in the future.

I did when I was a child. As well as various medications for depression. I don't consider myself to have, nor am i clinically diagnosed with depression, schizophrenia, or anxiety of any kind.

I'll spare you angst and throw you the gist.

Every blood-member of my family has been plagued with suicides, the kind of bad luck that would make your head spin, and for whatever reason, many of us have been forced to take human life for one reason or another. Which isn't strange in any way outside of the fact that almost all of us have.

Some of us, like myself, narrowly escape death on a fairly regular schedule. I could go on for hours about how many times I should have died.

Starting with my grandfather, which is as far back as I can trace this. He had 10 brothers, 9 of which have died early unnatural deaths. 5 children, 3 of which have died under strange circumstances from generally non-lethal things. Both my parents committed suicide, my mother last year, followed by all 3 family dogs (in different homes) in the same week.

I have also had a severe fear and distrust of the dark. I feel as though I am always being watched, and have difficulties sleeping.
I have noticed that when their wives are not present, I often catch the men in my family sleeping with the lights on. This could be coincidence.

This all combined with the fact that as far as I can tell from speaking to my family, all of our lives have been endless hellscapes of suffering and torture since our earliest memories. With acception of in-laws of course.
>>
>>18975702
>i looked it up, seems the guy himself says the book was so dangerous he took it down from purchase. is that serious or he is making hype for himself?

Entirely serious. But it's mostly his perspective, which stems from interacting with psychos.

I mean, it's easy to brainwash a person to the point of voluntary slavery within the span of an hour or two. You just have to know what you're doing.

>what's special about his techniques vs other hypnotism books?

Nothing, aside from the books being the most comprehensive works, with ALL OF THE CITATIONS.

When you put it all together, hypnosis ceases to be anything else than an emergent phenomenon stemming from how our neurology works.
>>
>>18975726
I would also like to iterate that I do not frequent this board, nor am I 'superstitious'.

I am non-religious and in the past have chalked things like my uncontrollable fear of the dark and feelings of being watched to a strong survival instinct and potential chemical imbalances.

Looking back on all of this has led me to seek alternative answers to the problems I face on a daily basis.

Hey Thoth, any thoughts on this collection? I am completely unfamiliar with Crowley's work. Does this contain everything necessary to understand his theory and practice his system? If not, any suggestions on filling the gaps?

Picked this up at a local shop a few days ago and I've been reading through it. So far I've been enjoying the poetry and philosophy, but flipping through it I'm not seeing any of the charts, symbols, sigils, etc. common to most grimoires out there.

Ok so awhile back I was messing with low theta brainwaves for roulette gambling and had a magick experience on accident. I got into a trance and thought about attracting a random number using breathwork and affirmations. As I started breathing and affirming what I wanted to happen I suddenly created some kind of whirlwind of higher energy that 'connected' me to my desire and it felt incredible, as if that desire manifesting was the only thing in the world. The energy pushed me to spin and I got the number I wanted.
The whole thing happened really fast and I was wondering if I had done some insane shaman practice or I was just lucky but it wasn't an accident because the first number I rolled the next day was the same exact so the energy was still active!
Can someone explain what the fuck happened?
