Uhh, the solution to this is pretty simple. Contact lotsa astronomers and get some opinions. You gain nothing by talking in the vacuum of /x/. I'm pretty sure if there was a great big gaping gap in space, we'll find it eventually. There is a lotta space to focus on, though, and the hubble has to focus on a spot for a long time to get the really distant light.

So beyond all that, if you just saw a big blank spot in the sky, don't forget that shit gets in the way at night sometimes, whether an airplane or the very particles of our atmosphere. We lose a lot of light to our atmosphere, though thankfully not all the heat. Anyways, get schooled, faggot.

Barnard_68_lq.jpg

Barnard 68 is a molecular cloud, dark absorption nebula or Bok globule well within our own galaxy at a distance of about 400 light-years, so close that not a single star can be seen between it and the Sun. Because of its opacity, its interior is extremely cold, about 16 K (−257 °C). Its mass is about twice that of the Sun and it measures about half a light-year across.

Despite being opaque at visible-light wavelengths, use of the Very Large Telescope at Cerro Paranal has revealed the presence of about 3,700 blocked background Milky Way stars, some 1,000 of which are visible at infrared wavelengths. The cloud wobbles or oscillates in a manner not unlike a large soap bubble or a water-filled balloon when jiggled.

Barnard 68's well-defined edges and other features suggest that it is on the verge of gravitational collapse followed by becoming a star within the next 200,000 years or so.

This. Just cosmic swamp gas.

There's lots of empty space in intergalactic space. Look at one of those hubble shots where everything visible is a galaxy - most stars are part of galaxies or other mass clusters. Outside of those clusters, there are (sometimes significantly) fewer stars, but it's not paranormal.

If you're interested in weird astronomy, you should read about:
Chandrasekhar limit

Cosmic background radiation
Virgo/'Local' Supercluster

>>
>>18565664
It's not void of stars. Imagine that you just haven't seen its light yet. We live so far away.

It's like you said, perceivable. We just can't perceive it yet.
>>
>>18575131
This is indeed true. Anyone that gets this basic fact is an astronomer. Thank you.
>>
>>18575131
This is actually not true. The majority of "empty space" is not empty. It's largely comprised of dark mass and has real observable volume which is expanding.
>>
>>18565664
So, people have said this already but using radio waves astronomers looked through the dark mass and found galaxies BEHIND it. Physical light doesn't pass through it so it looks empty to us. Meaning it's a large dense mass of some sort of particles and since it is so large it may be in the process of collapsing in on itself potentially creating a new star or something.
>>
If no light travels through it that means it's opaque. If it's opaque that means there is lots of matter blocking the light.

It's impossible for it to be a void.
>>
>>18575777
>>18575783

We're talking about two different things, the "void" is a region of space with galaxies which are simply spread out much further than the rest of space around it. The image in OP's post is depicting an opaque gas body in this region but that is entirely irrelevant, the gas body is not the void, it's just one object in that area that happens to look dark and cause confusion to you idiots. Jesus, read the wikipedia article.
>>
>>18575800
Just trying to explain simple reasoning to these niggers. : ^ )
>>
>>18575800
Neither of those two posts claimed it was the "void."

Re: Greg Bear's Way series. The void is evidence of a Jart incursion into our universe.
>>
There is a version of M theory which would dictate anything formed in our visible space-time like this super-void structure is a convection point between our paired universe|anti-universe space-time and the next membranal universe|anti-universe pair beyond that.

So essentially, as you approach the edge of our universe|anti-universe M Pair, hitting the end of our M Pair is asymptotically impossible for matter|anti-matter obeying the laws of our M Pair's space-time.

Given that a convex point is a crossover point between one M Pair's universal laws/space time and another's it would be impossible to perceive from inside of one of the two connecting M Pairs.

If we were outside all of these membranes in a third perspective universe, this point would potentially be perceivable.

Any attempt by us to perceive this point, or interact with it, will be energetically impossible, unless we first exist our M Pair, or at the bair minimum, create an energy differential that breaks the space-time within our M Pair.
>>
>>18565664
Not a pic of a cosmic void you retard
>>
>>18576563
*first exit our M Pair, or at the bare minimum, create an energy differential that breaks the space-time within our M Pair.

***It is argued that our entire M Pair/Universe is created by one of these energy differentials created by a third party universe/M Pair, hence the dark matter, matter|anti-matter difference that can not be adequately explained by relativity theories.

So our universe may have been created as just a by-product from another advanced race in a third universe, trying to perceive something outside of their M Pair, thus creating the energy diffusion that is not in perfect equilibrium.

If the universe is anything like reality then its probably just as thin. Likely that this is just a tear to what's beneath conventional space.

There's X^Y amount of black space between galaxies, massive voids of nothing past the galaxy's membrane. Probably an injection of dark matter with a tangible impact on stars, etc. in that area?

Theory-crafting bullshit, but there's empty space all over the place. Doesn't seem like a foreign or alien phenomenon.
