I'm pretty sure if there was a great big gaping gap in space, we'll find it eventually. There is a lotta space to focus on, though, and the hubble has to focus on a spot for a long time to get the really distant light.

So beyond all that, if you just saw a big blank spot in the sky, don't forget that shit gets in the way at night sometimes, whether an airplane or the very particles of our atmosphere. We lose a lot of light to our atmosphere, though thankfully not all the heat. Anyways, get schooled, faggot.

Barnard 68 is a molecular cloud, dark absorption nebula or Bok globule well within our own galaxy at a distance of about 400 light-years, so close that not a single star can be seen between it and the Sun. There's lots of empty space in intergalactic space. Look at one of those hubble shots where everything visible is a galaxy - most stars are part of galaxies or other mass clusters. Outside of those clusters, there are (sometimes significantly) fewer stars, but it's not paranormal.
