The basis of meme magic is the influence of thoughts on the real world. If you think of an event you create a tendency for that event to happen.

If masses of people intensively think of the same idea over a long period of time it can have huge effects on real events. Pic related is a perfect example of such a manifestation. Now I'm not saying that /tv/ unintentionally caused the plane crash, but build a tendency for all the "coincidences" that refer to baneposting to happen.

There are two different ways of practicing it. An "intentional" one and an "unintentional" one. The above example is an "unintentional" use of meme magic. It is much weaker than the former but can scale much better with the number of people who focus on the same idea.
Intentional meme magic is the stronger of the two but has little potential for scale as not many people practice it (but if you can find other people it will scale just like the first one).
The difference can be derived from the name: You are actively trying to focus your thoughts. It is much more suited for personal use. Its concept is the same: Think of something and you will create a tendency for it to happen. A stronger belief will create a better outcome. If you want you can use materials or "spells", but they themselves won't affect anything and are only there to amplify your belief.

Another important part: You will NOT be able to cast fireballs and make yourself levitate. Meme magic can not defy the laws of physics to such an extend. You'd need millions, if not billions, of people concentrating to merely make a spark. This is also the reason why religions will not be able to create a god by strongly believing in him for thousands of years.

I didn't go about saying kawaii uggu or whatever, but always trying to think positively, to be friendly, with everyone and forgive everyone with a smile, it changed everything and for the first time in my sad pathetic life it felt like the whole world just lined up to smile back.
