It's Anonymous and while it covers a wide variety of topics the structure is simple and direct (as opposed to Reddit's virtually infinite amount of sections). You can fit links to all the boards in the same page, so there's no need for a search engine. You can get to whichever board you want in a single click.
Also, anonimity has other consequences/advantages. You can freely express yourself without it possibly being used against you and so everyone else can, so 4chan gives you the chance to be honest and read honest opinions and points of view that wouldn't be possible if accounts existed. Taboos are not such thing here. It doesn't matter what kind of weird thing you're into, most people here don't care and some others will be into it, too.
Finally, while this can lead to some disturbing stuff going around in here I wouldn't ever change it.

Discussion of obscure topics. The commenting and replying facilities are much better than leddit and tumblr. And Tumblr and Leddit have discussion that is largely dead especially with regards to anime. If I say something on tumblr it is very unlikely that anyone will reply to me and with reddit it's likely that replies are buried and I dislike the upvoting etc

Obviously the quality of threads depend on the relative number of /pol/shitters and shitposters to people actually interested in holding a discussion.

Instant replies, just add water. It's easy and simple to use and I can say anything from spamming my favourite character every thread, to discussing something profound or shitting up someone else's thread. Also I enjoy cross topic threads that are not possible on other websites.

I suppose another very important facet of 4chin (obviously not in the survey now) is that other than shitposting/thread derailment, funposting and instant quality discussion is the lack of DMCA enforcement. I've had multiple blogs striked for posting PainteR amtlib, amtemu cracks, mangas amongst other things and even linking to classic out of print books can put one in trouble due to the rampant keword bots that identify infringing files having low accuracy. Leddit probably experiences similar DMCA strikes.

This is where the 4chin high prune rate/rapid thread discussion/blocking of robots.txt and robot useragents amongst other protective measures provides advantageous for people wanting to share things and it can be fun to post stuff you find from sekrit clubs without having to fear repercussions.

Good uploads and good shares amongst other things rarely leave 4chin. Neither do translations or spoilers or other valuable discussion.

I guess I just like the elitism.

- None of the baggage from a previous discussion is carried to the next. Apart from a lack of internet 'shame' this also leads to a more lax, jokey site culture that is usually refreshing and fun. Although some people can take this laxness too far.
- Seeing unfettered opinions... with exceptions. Certain things are funny in a facetious sense, but they're becoming less and less unironic everyday. Still, this is one of the few sites where you'd inadvertently be exposed to such things.
- On other sites, moderators tend to dictate the cullture and steer things into their preferred topical direction. Something like a /v/ thread turning into sexy Street Fighter pics, or even just sexy black girl (pic related, my last thread became this), would almost never happen on a more restrictive website. Instead you'd have a videogame forum(s), and possibly, totally separate parts of the site dedicated to sexy women or cartoon/anime shit. It wouldn't mix in such a chaotic, interesting way. That said, I do not visit /b/ or /pol/.

Because there's all sorts of things here, all sorts of weird things pop up all the time. There's something for everyone here.

you're anonymous, and this leads to a lot of interesting things. If you write something that makes you look bad, nobody will know you're that guy the next time you post. Of course this also leads to a load of trolling, but that just adds to the fun.

>- Why use it as opposed to other forums?
It's anonymous and almost everything is allowed here. Also you don't have to look for what you want for very long like on reddit, this is simple and all sorts of shit is on here everywhere.

I've always liked to play videogames, i've also had an interest in programming the past few years, even though i'm still pretty crap at it.

I don't use it regularly. But it can sometimes be useful for a variety of purposes. Similarly to...say... a scalpel or the like. Last week someone was able to help me with a browser problem.

Mostly /w/, /mu/ and /wsr/.

To laugh, see cute shit, bitch and moan, argue, and occasionally have insightful discussion. It also brings me great joy when my post makes another Anon laugh or smile. I'll also admit I like it when my post gets a large amount of (You)s, but I don't bait for that on purpose.

Not having to register under a username. Every conversation starts off from a relatively clean slate (people will always make assumptions about you, of course). I can generally call someone a dickhead if I feel like it and not have a moderator intervene (edgy).

I have friends who rely on me. I want to become more dependable so I can make them happy. I like anime and manga, and occasionally video games. I used to draw and I want to get back into it.

I have been here since long before I was confident enough to post, so I know how to find quality content (tm). Not only that, I find that I share interests with the general attendee of 4chan, and it feels more genuine than the mainstream internet.

It's more interactive and fun/carefree. Other places take the internet too seriously. 4chan is the antithesis of that, which somehow leads to very intriguing thoughts amidst a sea of absolutely terrifying levels of filth.

I run an online radio show and manage/create for Esfores. My aspirations are to create a bigger radio show and move into the world at large with my friends right along with me! I'd also like to have a family of my own one day.

Normally work/home/public computer, but I will use my phone from time to time to monitor certain threads.

1. 90% use is /a/ for /a/ related news and obscure recs.
2. Total anonymity coupled with the huge barrier to entry effectively eliminating actual stupid people. That and occasional mindgames. Basically the format and its various implications. Also the fact that I literally never take anything I read on this website seriously helps. It's sad thinking people come here for genuine discussion, though the success of that probably varies board by board. I always prep a 1,000 ft mental concrete wall between me and this website.
3. See 2. It's all about the anonymity. I sometimes fantasize about writing a formal analysis of this sort of format and the type of interaction it exhibits. Maybe in the future.
