I read Harry Potter books as a kid and used to self insert myself and pretend I was a student in Hogwarts. Then I found out anime which became a new escapism tool for me for a long time but I'm fed up with it now, can't stand it anymore.

So I would be very thankful if someone can recommend any good books for escapism and such. Fantasy, scifi, realism, anything goes.

Depends on if you're looking for Eastern books or Western books (translated Japanese light novels vs English). Also depends on if you insert yourself as main character or just into the settings (aka if you would be okay with a setting where everybody besides the main character isn't that great). And also depends on if you're male or female.

Western:

-For inserting as MC: Daniel Black Series (https://www.goodreads.com/series/144936-daniel-black). Probably ultimate self insert western novel that's actually not shit. Main character gets sent to a medieval world that's undergoing Fimbulwinter which is pretty much an ever-lasting winter with a ton of monsters roaming around. He uses the magic powers he gets to collect survivors, build a fortress, introduce modern day tech, build a harem, etc. Elements of interest: Transported to fantasy world, having powerful magic, applying modern day knowledge, fortress-building + survival, lots of attractive girls (succubus, elves, etc.), OP character.

-Inserting into the world (not as the MC): To be honest, there are a lot of books like that. Ex: Dresden Files, Chronicles of Narnia, Bartimaeus series, etc. It REALLY depends on what you're looking for.

Eastern:
Well, if you like escapism anime, you'll probably be interested to know that escapism webnovels/light novels are probably one of the most translated japanese novels right now.

And once again: it really, really helps if you can give a better criteria for what you're searching for. Even a "I'm looking for a novel like XXX" would help a lot.

Okay I sorta fucked up.

I have a MacBook which I installed Windows 8 in it, problem is that it's got a small capacity of storage (60 - 50 GB without Windows, 40 with Windows) So I was bothered that I've got small storage and decided to delete the Mac partition since I really wasn't using it because I wanted more storage for Windows because I download a lot of things (Yeah that's really fucking stupid)

Now Windows is acting a bit strange cuz I fucked up with something within the system files which now I can't open the settings and change the stuff in there (Background

I would like to reinstall a new Windows but of course the problem is that I ain't got Mac and there is no Bios for Windows if it's Bootcamped in a MacBook

Should I just stick with the Windows I've got or is there a different solution?

got redirected from /a/, so you guys are apparently my last hope

I'm looking for the anime adaptation of "the new gate" which I'm sure I've watched 3 episodes of at around 1 year ago. Whenever I try to search something related it comes up with log horizon, sword art online or accel world.
All I need is the japanese original title, since apparently "the new gate" is only the name of the light novel.
Any help will be appreciated.

there is something seriously wrong with my computer...

Windows Update has been asking me to do the same 2 updates for maybe about a month now, I thought that maybe it's the updates themselves that are glitched or something and I hid them.

but now, AMD Radeon Settings is starting to tell me to make the same update again. The current version being 15.30 etc. to 16.15 etc. When I make the update, everything is successful and it tells me to reboot, after I do, it tells me my version is 15.30 again and that I must update to 16.15

It's like my computer forgets everything everytime It opens up but then again, my desktop hasn't lost anything I've been putting on it.

I remember at school, computer being programmed to not save anything but I sure as hell didn't configure my PC to do that, there's no way I could have done it accidently either, is it a hardware problem?

How do I fix this? Please Help!

hiding the 2 windows updates works, It's not that much of a big deal, but it's weird and I'm kinda concerned

Can anyone recommend some media about exploration or discovery of a foreign or even alien culture? I really liked the beginning of Morrowind how you get off the ship and see this strange world, and the clash of Dunmer culture with Imperial culture. Other stuff would be like Stranger in a Strange Land, The Road to El Dorado or Star Trek. There's a lot of games that have exploration, but I want something like exploration of a foreign land with a strange culture.

If you want science fiction, "The left hand of darkness" by Ursula K. Le Guin and "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert A. Heinlein (which reverse the trope), but there are a lot more.

Anime: Perhaps "The Miysterious Cities of Gold", "Twelve Kingdoms" (first part).
