My girlfriend of 2 and a half years broke up with me over text, I ended up drinking my way into the hospital after that. I don't want to drink or get high or eat or purge, I just want to distract myself with good feels for a while. I appreciate everyone of you that can give me something to smile about.
>>1653529
Get over it you fucking pussy.
I wish my life was so cushy that breaking up with a girlfriend was the saddest thing in the world.

Good for you, I'm going to apply for diversity because I can't play for any college, and I can't get my first job after 7 years of trying. In 2013 my girlfriend of 4 years broke up with me over the phone. I felt the same way, but had the restraint to not follow through with what you did. After a 3 month grieving period I figured I should put myself out there, have a casual and fairly safe relationship with few emotional attachments. I bothered a girl I thought was cute and went for it.
We celebrated our 4th anniversary in February. I plan to marry her. It gets better if you let it anon. Just allow yourself some time and do the things you enjoy. Go out there and find someone else when you feel you can. Have a cute thing.

Well good sir, let me tell you a thing or two: The only way to get out of it is to get up and get things GOING. And I don't mean blindly doing stuff for the sake of doing stuff, but rather to get things going one step after another.
First off, you need to make sure this doesn't develop into major depression – yes, being heartbroken may feel worse but you need to make sure it doesn't GET worse. To ensure your mental health you need to watch your neurochemistry – balance is key. Trust me, an unbalanced brain can be a real bitch.
To maintain balance you need to take a few precautions:
Firsly, don't stay in bed any longer than you need to. Early to bed and early to rise, as the old saying goes. After a good night of sleep, get your body going as soon as possible.
Secondly, at least half an hour of exercise with a heart rate at around 130 bpm will leave you feeling more energetic after a minimal period of exhaustion.
And watch your fucking diet!
Step two is making plans. Yes, MAKE plans, don't just dream them up. Set them up, write them down. Staring at this monitor may be a nice distraction and as such it does serve its purpose. But only as such. If you keep telling yourself you're an unworthy piece of shit, you'll end up being one. So look at all your "work in progress" at first, everything you need to do to make ends meet, and complete it. Imagine having to write a CV and strive to round it off.
Then, and only then: Bite off more than you can chew. And chew it!
>>1653621
Three months is a rather swift recovery, actually. Six months wouldn't be out of the ordinary. After that, however, professional help is required.
>>1653652
>CV
that's actually "résumé" in the US, in case you were wondering...
>>1653659
It was fairly quick I'm told. But I had a decent support network of family and friends. I also posted a lot on /b/ to vent and shitpost, and after a while of seeing
>tfw no gf
I said fuck it and looked for someone. Tbh I wasn't totally ready, but it felt better than grieving.
>>1653700
Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. Saying "fuck it" is indeed the most important step. Taking it can feel rather good in an for itself. There are pitfalls to avoid however, the most dangerous being surrendering to cynicism, since that can be hard to get out of as well.

I don't know anything about how long I should wait, I'd never been in a relationship that lasted more than a few dates before this time. All I know is that I am way better as part of a couple than by myself, I need someone to recap my days with and share my life with. Suddenly being without that is crippling.
>>1653723
I understand anon. Like I said I was in a relationship for 4 years before it ended. The important thing is to be able to do those things such as talking about your day again. That's why I vented on 4chan, just to talk to someone. But it's a poor alternative to in person. Just talk to friends and stuff, but don't be needy. I'm sure they would like to help, but you can't pressure them back; it will make them draw away.
>>1653759
The great thing about real friendships is that they're not easily "overburdened". However, the one surefire way to drag everybody down is through self-pity. Therefore it's wise to snap out of it as soon as possible.
>>1653787
>>1653793
It's easy to fall into, you ask 'why did this happen?' and a relatively easy answer to fall onto is 'It's me' and that quickly evolves into 'why should I do this? why do my friends put up with me? what am I doing?' and people don't like defending you to you. Problem is I've had that issue since I was in middle school, I don't like saying it because I know what it does externally, but I know me, I'm a /b/tard and a /pol/lock. Most of the time I just slap on a smile, try not to think about how hollow I am, and force myself outside.
Not your personal support network. Fuck off.
>>1654026

Oh that feeling of hollowness can very easily be mitigated once you just stop visiting those boards.
/b/ has been dead in the water for years now and mostly functions as a mere extension of /pol/ nowadays with the occasional photo leak and quickly deleted edgelord-threads.
And /pol/ has become cancer-central.
Yeah, it might be one of the most OC-rich boards here but how much is that worth if the OC amounts to little more than virtually fellating Mr. President and the Nth NS-meme.
Every somewhat insightful post will soon be shouted down by endless buzzword-spamming and meme spouting that, in a nutshell, consists of little more than the following:
>variations of the word "cuck"
>the big bad muslim man
>happymerchant.jpg
>George Soros is evil incarnate
>spics, gooks, sandniggers, eurocucks
>niggerniggerniggernigger
>REEEEEEE
>your sheltered libtard-life
>two nukes weren't enough
>((((brackets))))
>I'm subject to the global [insert possible pressure group]-conspiracy
I think it just gets really boring after a while, especially once you realize how many clueless middle schoolers are frequenting that board.

been in the same boat anon, gf of 2.5 years dumped me out of the blue. took a fucking long time to get my shit together again after that, but 3 years later ive got an awesome new gf and things are looking up
my advice to you is to find something to occupy your time with. i spent months sitting in bed beating myself up over every aspect of our relationship and just being miserable as fuck
pick up a hobby that you can lose yourself in. it occupies your mind so you dont get caught in those loops of shitty thoughts, and finishing a task or project can give you a big boost of confidence
im a complete anxiety-filled waste of oxygen and i still somehow managed to find happiness again. you can too if you can slog thru all the shittiness ahead

Took me almost two years to get over one of my exes a couple years back. Eventually that heartache turns into a low, dull pain. Your heart may fall into your stomach if you see someone who looks like she did and you think it might be her, but it's never her.
Eventually you stop creeping on her social media pages. You realize that she's moved on and that you have to do the same. You stop "checking up" on her. You're kind of adrift and directionless for a long time. You go through the motions, spend time with friends, maybe even try something new that you've never done before. You get into a routine, you try to organize yourself and get your life back together. You put your head down and start to grind.
Then, Anon, something weird happens. One day you realize it's been a while since you thought about her. She used to be your every waking thought, but somewhere along the way you managed to get through an entire day without her crossing your mind once. And you're only going to notice that in retrospect. One day you just sort of...stopped thinking about her. And you're still here. You came out on the other side.
It's not an easy process. You can't give yourself a deadline or force yourself through it. You just have to understand that it is indeed a process but it does have an ending. Love is always a risk, but it's a risk worth taking. And one day you'll find yourself ready to take that risk again.
You deserve happiness, Anon. And one day you will find it. I promise you. You will.

I think now I just need to focus on whatever the hell makes me happy
>>1654553

>>1653529
I don't know why I'm posting this here of all places, and I can't wait for the masses to call me a pussy, but I recently lost the love of my life and I blame myself for her death, I was stupid and broke up with her because I wanted her to chase her dreams and not feel like she had to stay around because of me. After we broke up she started drinking hard and ended up with a deadbeat who gave her a gun and she shot herself. I haven't really told anyone that I blame myself for her death, because I'm afraid to tell anyone, they probably won't understand. But hey, backstory aside, I like this thread, it's easy for me to break down and cry but feeling good for a little bit is what's getting me through. Had a girlfriend break up with me the same way, about four or five years ago, and she was pretty much my ideal partner to boot. I didn't immediately drink a lot but I pretty much destroyed a wall taking my frustration out on it. All things considered they were probably both right to break up with us remotely. Clearly neither you nor I were stable people, at least after being broken up with.
Hang in there I guess. From my experience things don't really get better again, or perhaps I should say they don't get to be like they used to, but it's not like you'll never be happy. In my case it made me realise I was not as stoic and even-tempered as I liked to think, and eventually led me to redouble my efforts to maintain self-control, so I suppose that's a good thing.
I'd be lying if I said I was over her even now, but I'm still moving on. You have to as well, preferably sooner rather than later, or you might as well be dead. Remember that everything is temporary, positive or negative, and that life is a state of change. Stagnation is your enemy.

If you're interested, there's been a few articles out there about what happened to Boston Dynamics
Basically they kept doing amazingly cool stuff until they got bought by Google, and google kept pushing them to make something actually useful so that they could eventually make their money back.
Two problems came up: 1. they wanted to keep making amazing robots, for science, even if it would be useless (money-wise) for a long time, basically just keep doing research, and 2. they got some amazingly shit management from google
So they just trolled them for a few years by making derpy videos with awesome but unsellable robots (including the dogos)
Dunno what happened in the meantime, but it was a great (albeit somewhat sad) read, I think it was this one:

It just found out that it doesn't like water and thinks about taking up a new carreer as a weird looking dog.
No, actually, from what I've gathered, it's a freshly-weaned young seal that just starts hunting for food, which is why it's always tentatively poking its nose into the water.
Those vocalizations are just what young seals will do. It's also blowing water out of its nostrils – remember, they don't have hands to blow their noses.
