I think what you're missing is that homer isn't supposed to be an everyman (at least insofar as everyman isn't a bumbling retard) or easily relatable, he's supposed to be an idiot who increasingly over the course of the show is specifically an idiot who puts compassion for family before anything else (originally he was just a stereotypical american oaf still mentally living in the 1950s). He's acting pretty in-character there.

Also I don't think Homer expresses a problem with "no fat chicks" in that clip, it's just something on one of the signs on the demolition machines remodeling the kremlin. If anything it's one of the writers/animators having an issue with it.
