Well, for start you're leaving a lot of white edges, there are several ways to fix that, by making the selection you're cutting slightly smaller (which can cut the image too much and make it look weird but is easy and often works best) or by making a clipping mask layer and painting it or using other tools and then setting it to "darken" and masking it so it only affects a thin area around the edges. It's a case by case thing so you have to try them out and see how they work, usually combination is best and you can always try other methods if this doesn't work but I'd say those are the easiest and usually produce the best results. Since you have white edges only over parts of the image I recommend just making the clipping mask layer, setting it to darken and then painting over the white parts.
