I find this to be a surprisingly common opinion. I've always liked it because it makes starting apps a lot quicker.

I think your homescreen is pretty good. Is the status bar supposed to be there? If it is, then this is one of the few homescreense I've ever seen that uses a status bar well. It blends in with the background rather than sticking out like a sore thumb.

Not sure if I like it just yet, bud. Idea's sound, but execution isn't quite there yet. I might be nitpicking, but the different artstyle of the papes bug me. If I'm not wrong, the second grill was done by Ilya, and the other two were both drawn by some other artist I'm not familiar with. Be consistent. Also, I'm guessing you won't change your mind on your font choice? In that case, only other suggestion I've got is to change your background solid color into a lighter shade of pink, considering the papes you've got all have a pastel backgrounds. Keep at it.

One problem I'm seeing with this is the dark blue borders. I don't think it's going well with the wallpaper. Fiddle around with the colors a little more, that shade of blue just isn't it. Yeah the logistics of it is hard. One option is to try and maybe limit it to posts with a certain number of replies. It might encourage people to rate others more too. The problem is that it discriminates against later posts that might not hit the reply limit. Your option works pretty well too. If we do that we should put the strawpoll at the bottom of the OP with some stylization so that it stands out.

So I just had another idea. Instead of going full democracy we could try and ease into it. Let adrift pick the ones that he thought were the best from the thread(Top 10) and let people vote on them for the next header. It lets us gauge how popular voting will be, makes the problem of who gets decide what gets voted on easier, and it also isn't such a radical change as to jar people who weren't expecting it. If you want to get rated more, rate other people. If you don't have the time when you post your homescreen, rate people later. It's just good etiquette. Giving your own viewpoint can help people making screens a lot. Do it even if you know the absolute bare minimum on ricing.

Anyway, so I'll give my feedback now. The big thing that sticks out to me is that the current day isn't centered. The Sunday is off to the left a bit, and moving it to the right would make the entire calendar look a lot better.

The battery is also in a weird place. It messes up the symmetry of the entire design. If you want to try and incorporate it more, you could turn it into a progress bar and center it.

Another thing I don't like is the background. It clashes with the icons. It looks weird when the lighting behind transparent/light icons changes like that. The fact that some icons are on top of a dark background while others are on a light one makes for a weird contrast effect. If you want to keep using those icons, I'd try and get an icon that has a background that is mostly consistent in color/texture up until the point where icons are no longer needed. Alternatively, you could try and change the icon pack. I don't think the background itself is bad, I just don't like the weird clash that's going on.

The changes you keep making are definitely slowly improving your rice. I like that shadow effect you've got going. The font choices are stellar. But it's missing something, and I can't put my finger on it. If I had to put it into words, it kinda feels imbalanced. To name a few examples, I think the Monday is too far up, for one; it's too close to the clock. The clock itself is a little too close to the edge. Try messing around with the spacing between your elements.

The center square feels empty and mismatched. I'm not sure how to deal with the top info either, or the weather forecast (which i moved from my previous rice)

I would upload a video, but for some reason it depends an audio stream in it and tells me to fuck off, even though i recorded without audio and converted with no change
