How do I make my desktop less shit? Any sort of... like... programs

i hide all of my icons, they just aren't visually appealing to me. i tried rainmeter, lots of widgets and really cool things i never used. like a multi tool when all you need is a pair of needle nose pliers.

its clever but if i were you, I'd make that taskbar transparent like mine, I used a trial of a programm called startisback - http://startisback.com/ - fyi it'll cahnge the windows icon automatically to win 7, if you wanna keep it as win 10 then you have to go into switching and then replace start menu for start screen

Get rid of all of your desktop icons except an empty recycle bin and maybe one or two text/word docs as a note pad. Get all those icons and either pin them to Taskbar or to the start menu. Hide Cortana and the multidesktop thing next to it, they're not needed. Get a sleeker wallpaper. Having a nice desktop is easy, I never liked things like rainmeter. What you need is discipline and a sense of cleanliness

i use stardock fences to spice my desktop up, but anytin by stardock is pretty nifty

Disable desktop icons, get a 3rd party visual style you like. Try Rainmeter if it appeals to you (don't go overboard like all newbies tend to, and try to balance things visually w/r/t negative space and the geometry of your background).

Being on Windows 10 really doesn't help as far as customization goes, it's much less well supported than 7 since it's newer and has less penetration amongst power users.

Personally I used to use Rainmeter like 10 years ago, but nowadays I just use a very minimal bblean config or visual style with a blank desktop and focus my customization on specific programs.
