Regardless of tool (magic wand, pen, lasso, etc) used to make selection
I advise inside-feathering the edge (or even reducing the selection by a pixel or two and THEN feathering).
Cut the selection to another layer. Flood fill the background with a contrasting color.
Zoom in and scroll around the edge to see how it looks.

No. I did used the Stamp for finishing touches, but mainly it was content aware fill.

First you copy the layer, and roughly delete anything you don't want copied (in this case, the girl and feathers). I use the Lasso for a quick hand drawn selection. This leaves only clouds, so content aware will fill with clouds (if you try to use content aware on the original image, you'll get pieces of girl stamped around).
Then you select the part of the image you want to fill and use content aware (Shift+F5). Select again any part you don't quite like and use content aware again if needed (I didn't like the huge empty space on that corner, and the cut off feather).
Then stamp any details (in this case, original image's border, repeated cloud borders and fills). I use Stamp with 100 border for smoothness.

In any case, thanks in in advance to any kind edit anon(s) that are willing to lend me a hand. I'm pretty bad with this sort of thing, so none of my edits ever turn out the way I would have hoped. I feel like I'm probably unaware of some step that makes it a bit easier, or perhaps I'm simply doing some stuff incorrectly altogether. In the interest of learning how to do this myself so I could potentially pay the kindness forward and fulfill requests myself, is there anywhere I should go in particular to learn how to make clean, crisp renders? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Could I get these Konosuba butts rendered away and put onto a solid color/ gradent/ simple background? Basic patterns and designs are fine, but the heart of what I'm requesting is that I want something that feels a bit more 'wallpapery' than the beach setting behind them.

I wouldn't know any tutorial to recommend, but I think it'd be easier if you post an example as to point out your weaknesses and give advice.

Some things I always recommend with renders:
- Don't abuse the Magic Wand. Use the Lasso and Eraser when needed. Specially with corners, the wand sucks at corners.
- Apply some glow with a contrasting color to search for residual pixels.
- Check the render with a dark and a light background. It should look good on both, without dark/light pixels around it.

I never use Magic Wand since it generally seems to turn out badly. Lasso is just the Free Select tool in GIMP, right? I haven't really experimented with that yet. Any tips for someone just starting out with it? As far as Eraser, for some reason it always seems to generate a white background for me, not a transparent one, even when I've added an alpha channel to the image. I have to be doing something wrong, right?

Lasso is the Free Selection tool, yes. I usually use the Polygon Lasso and make several anchor points around the image to make the selection. It's quick and simple.
I don't use GIMP so I'm not sure I could say what your problem with the Eraser is, sorry. And not sure if it applies too, but you can try pressing and holding Ctrl before starting a selection to add to a previous existent selection, and same with Alt to remove from it. It lets you use the Lasso by sections.

I have a decently picture of the Kotonoha no Niwa movie poster. Could someone edit the picture so it's 2:3 and then add the japanese text and copyright stuff from the original movie poster. I understand that because it's being cropped to 2:3 the text wont be in the exact positions, but it doesn't have to be absolutely perfect just within the general area.
