Post your vector requests and recently done vectors here.
>Previous thread → >>1963244

READ THE OP BEFORE POSTING!

>Before requesting, here are some tips:
– Request an image ONCE per thread. Do not bump or second - once is enough.
– Check the lists below to see if your request has already been previously fulfilled.
– All requests are welcome, within reason, but remember:
– The poorer the quality of an image (in resolution and drawing ability), the less likely it will be picked up. The more detail seen and higher the resolution, the better.
– Full-body images preferred. Images cut off on 3 or more sides are very unlikely to be picked up due to their limited usage; keep this in mind when finding an image to request. (Hair or skirt edges that are barely cut off don't usually count)
– Requests for removing the background from an image (called a RENDER) and resizing requests should go to the IMT threads.
– Refrain from using renders for requests. Try to find the original non-rendered image; it is easier for vectorists to work with.
– Note: Overly complicated images are unlikely to be picked up due to their nature. IF your request is taken, please have patience.

Here's a little more progress on this. Getting some practice with gradient meshes. I've never been too great with them, so even this simple skin coloring is taking a while. I'm not really looking forward to coloring the feet.
Also, the source makes the skin shading a lot more apparent, but I feel like it looks too harsh when I vector it. Should I darken the shading?

can you go a teeny tiny bit darkr for the shading (if the number was FFFFFF for example, can you make it DFDFDF instead) because while it is nicely shaped, it's hard to see and makes her look like an otaku that has never had any sun.

Not that I experience this, of course.

Requesting help for my /ss/ gift.
I need some fairies in their dancing positiong.
Just 4 or 5 would already be amazing.

There are tons of them in the OP. If someone is interested in helping, I can screenshot a few and post them, or you can just download the OP. It doesn't really matter which fairy it is as long as there's a nice variety.

Help would be very much appreciated.

line consistency is all over the place - look at the line thickenesses for the hair for example.

Also the ends for some of your hair - they are so thick, they look almost like blocky terminations. The curve should be gradual to help give it a more "flowy" feel. Look at or (her left) rightmost bang line for example.

The faded shine on the eyes look funny - eyes are glossy and reflect brightly because of the water used to moisturize them. They should not be transparent, but solid white.

Overall, a decent first attempt. Do cleanup n it, and it'll be a lot better....

Its the fact that the lines are not black that makes them look a little thin.

i am a bit confused, when should i use strokes and when shapes?

because in a few pieces here i've seen lines that are too perfectly consistent to be shapes. do you guys just draw strokes and then convert that into a shape to create the pointy ends to keep the line consistent otherwise? because right now im drawing everything, even thin lines, as a shape and its hella hard to make it really consistent all the way.

>>

It usually depends on the affec:
* MAchined things shouldbe strokes. This gives them a more "even" look. This should not be the case if you need to add in dings and imperfections tot he line - then outline the stroke.
* Everything organic should be fills The reason for this is that you are not going to see perfection in organic shapes, so those variances help remove the "uncanny valley" (look it up on tvtropes to see the explanation) that the majority of people willl feel as "something is not right with the image"

That doesn't mean you can't cheat occasionally, if you know what you are doing, but still, tere are easy ways to get more "perfect lines" if you know what you are doing:
* Have some sort of "measure" for your lines - I usually use the mouse at certain zoom levels, depending on the density of the line.
* Make your nodes and levers parallel to one another - this doesn't mean that they have to be the same length, though.
* Make complex lines with a fill, CLONE the line, on top of the original, move the nodes for that top one to the thickness you want, then seal the lines - I like this for insanely complex lines, liek wedding dresses and frills - it's not a time saver, but more of a sanity saver, so yo don't wonder where a node is, and have to go through a ton of adjustment.
* OR, you can makea "straight line" using two nodes for each end point, make the GENERAL CURVE that the line follows (if it is mostly straight, still lean the nodes towards one way, unless, again, it is mechanical and needs to be straight) Then once you have that basic curve and all those levers normalized and parallel, you can just add nodes on each side of the line at major arc apexes or valley bottoms as needed, and move those pairs.

Hope that helps.

Echoing what Derpy said, most lines should be fills. Some things like weaponry, some armor, and other things like that look fine in strokes.
Here is an example from one the vectors I worked on (and sadly haven't finished yet...). The hair ornament thing, to me, looked like a solid metal object so I used strokes for most of it. The base was a stroke that I converted to a fill to give it that tapered look. But all the lines surrounding it are fills, like the hair, ribbon, and skin.
And when I do lines, I usually do three "passes" to get them consistent:
1. Use a stroke to make the outline of the line, placing nodes in pairs. At this point, I don't really care about width and consistency, just parity.
2. Make sure all the of nodes' handles are parallel. Still don't care about consistency here.
3. Once that's done, I try moving all the nodes to make the line consistent. I usually zoom in and out to compare the line to the surrounding lines. Then I fill it.
At the left of the picture you can see the end product of the line before I change it to a fill.

From those several techniques, you'll be able to come up with something that best fits your methodology. Play with all of them, and not only see what works best for you, but see how you can adapt them to your own style.

Sometimes, efficiency isn't always the best way for certain people - I know people that vector faster than I do, using the "go to outline mode and trace the fuck out of everything exactly" school.

Good luck! When you get something going, let us know, and we can point you to more tips!

about the blur , you are right, it looks weird on our left when it touches the black line. corel can't do gaussian blur that easily so i tried to create a similar effect with dropshadows, but it doesn't work as well as i hoped it would. iirc in the tutorial video i saw a way to make a similar effect with a transparency gradient, so i'll give that a try the next time

Yes, This is EXACTLY what I meant (sorry I didn't sign it - I was not at home when typing. Also why I was so succinct.

For easier ideas on how to make lines, see what I and Phlux posted here:>>1976659
and here >>1976683

Apologies for the typing - juts got a new keyboard, and getting used to it.

The other thing you should think about is line thicknesses - For example: I would use a "base thickness" for the skin lines, then make the ribbon a LITTLE bit thinner, and the frilly/fluffy/fringy whatever you want to callthem thinner still, to give a sense of "volume" to things.

Also watch the tutorial after reading those posts, and you'll have some more ideas on how to continue. Please remember that consistent is NOT uniform - avoid strokes until you know a LOT more what you can do with the tools.

An example of why and how parallel lines can make life easier for you.
Hope this helps.

Derpy said most of it, but here's how i would do the eyes as well as a few examples of lineart.

Also, i would advise against using blunt ends on the lines that don't go into another line and instead end it in a sharp point.

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense, especially the stuff about using circles for eyes. right now i am trying to create the shapes as well as i can, but if i vectorize them i can of course clean them up rather than just copying something that was done to safe some time.

The stuff about establishing a base thickness and changing it up from there in order to create volume is also a good one, i will keep this in mind for the next project im gonna do

thanks guys/girls

First off, it's your "metagame" that you need to fix - each thing is part of the same object. To fix this, you need to tell it to put in "slices" that then will put a micro-fine hair between one object and another. With the image as it is, this is the most likely way you are going to have anything done.

There is another way, though - make each thing you want colored its own object.

You can then, form there, Make each thing colored the way you want it with the look you are going for.

Here is a quick example - What I would actually do is make each colored piece at the same time, so I would make all my blues first, then my red, then my greens. If you have snap or show nodes set up properly, you won't have to worry about things not lining up.

Though to me, this looks like a test to get used to the tools. I recommend NOT doing it this way - either watch the tutorials here, or the one for the minimalist vector thread. What you are doing here looks "easier" but is really a metric fuckton more work in the long run.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot. I didn't really watch any tutorials, I just started playing with inkscape and I know what I did wrong, I just wanted to know if there was an easy way to fix it.

I was just doing this as a one-off and I already colored it manually in gimp but I wanted to go back and improve this so I can make some changes.

Thanks for the tips.
>>
>>1978512
While using strokes for the mask is okay, look at how to make your lines with fills for the cloth. Also all your line thicknesses are too uniform. If I were you, I'd increase the thickness of the hilts by 20%, the light blue parts and teeth by 30% to give some substance to the image.

Hope this helps.

your consistency is good, except for a few places - mostly points - you go too thick on the ears, and too thin on the chin.

Your ears should have consistent lines the thickness I pointed out to match the "style" you are doing. Barring that, they should be at least the same thickness of the skin, regardless.

The style thing where tall the lower lines terminate in points looks off. I'm not a fan. It's better to continue those lines to proper termination at the end of the image, or where they would terminate naturally, if applicable.

The eyes are okay - you still should have used the circle tool and clipped them, but I digress.

The shiny circles in the eyes should either be a) using lines the same colors as the surrounding lines or b) not have the lines altogether. I personally would go with B as they are made from reflections, thus the lines kill the effect.

okey, another one of hestia from danmachi.

with this one i tried to make use of some of the tips i received here. i tried to establish a base line thickness for the skin which was a bit weird because i wanted the places that come out under the clothing to be thicker to emphasize her clothing being so tight. but i made the clothing lines much thinner so there is definitely some contrast now in the lines.

her ribbon looks super weird because i couldn't really make out any details in the original pic, i will probably have to go and do a ribbon of my own rather than trying to replicate the shape i see there

* Add in holes for the lacing on her corset to go through
* Cut the laces to make them go over-under inside those corset holes.
* The line colors for the beer mugs should be greenish-blue, like real mugs.

These things are just personal preference, otherwise, I love the use of colors and transparencies to make the beer. If it were a character I liked, I'd be making her into a background to use on my computer...

For better success: you might also want to see if you can find an image similar of that, with her ahoge (cowlick) for fuller completion. The more complete, the more likely it'll be picked up, because someone doesn't have to redraw fro scratch.

Unfortunately it's from a screencap, and her hair isn't fully visible in the shot at all. Previously I couldn't find from which episode was it and now I did and see how bad it is for a vector since yeah it isn't all too clear and the addition of hair needs to be done.

Quick question: In inkscape, is there a way to control both handles of a 'smooth' node? It seems like they're permanently stuck to being on opposite sides of one another.

That is the point of a smooth node, you need to make it a corner node to control each handle individually.

render and vector are two completely different things on this board, do you want the character cut out with no changes to the image except removing the background? if yes then that is a render and should be taken to the Image modification thread,
Or do you want the image completely redrawn as a vector graphic like others in this thread see >>1976561 for example which is a vector.

Looking at this as a thumbnail AND a larger file indicates that this thing is simply chaos, with nothing pulling the eye to anything
.

You have nothing pulling the eue to it. The colors you are using don't give it any "pop" and, when put on a white/light background, uoi have white blobs all over the place - some of them not even making the lines smooth like they should for her chin.

To fix this and make it a bit better:
* Remove the random spots of color in her hair - those blobs should be a light color like the hair and not orange or green - i'd use the blue or pale aqua
* Make the "stars" a bright yellow, so they stand out like something. Maybe a goldish color?
*Remove the grey lies i her hair for the dark blue color with all the blobbies in it.
* Make all the lines for her skin the skin tone line, and all the clothing the clothing tone - don't bleed them like you have it - it is just more "mess" to deal with.
* Make the white in her jacket pale grey - I'd also get rid of the line for the shadow separation - you don't use it anywhere else, and it looks wonky.
* The eye-path thing: Waaay too busy. Try muting it down by removing some of that white.
* I like the mouth, but I'd make the lower lip a darker shade.
* Unless her hair is fucking glass, I would remove the ear lines and colors - it just looks weird like that - hair you can get away with it, as bangs are usually "thinner" and it is a cheat to show this.

The one thing *I* would do, is make the lines a bit smoother than what you have. IF you want a neart effect, make the lines look like they were done with a Marker doing a calligraphic style - not just random blobs at points.

Hope this helps...
>>
>>1983107
>hair you can get away with it, as bangs are usually "thinner" and it is a cheat to show this.

Hair over eyes. Also sorry for the typos. Clumsy fingers and no proofreading...
>>
>>1983099
Use less nodes - your lines are not smooth. Also, make sure that when you DO place a node, you make the handles parallel to its partner on the opposite side.

Clothing really should NOT have sharp points to it - only exceptions are "rigid" materials or ribbons, and only THEN if they have ends that have been cut that way.

Her mouth lines don't align to make a decent mouth. Unless she has a hairlip and the scar for it, that should be closer to a flat, smooth merge for both lines. You should also use tapered lines for creases in her hair, not block terminations like you have.

Hope this helps.
>>
>>1983110
Thanks, I'll remember this for next time. However, what are tapered lines? I'm assuming block terminations are ending a line inside of another line?

lol I don't even use a consistent name - I just do it to give people a sense that I am not just some generic namefag, as shown by ALL THE GOOD TIPS, SUGGESTIONS AND ART I have posted.

Gee, it's not like *I* don't know what I am talking about, afterall, since I have been working with art for OVER forty years.

Now, The things I mentioned to fix are FUCKING SIMPL:E. TRY THEM AND SEE THE FUCKING DIFFERENCE. Would it fucking HURT you to try it? Do you need daddy to hold your fucking hand as you a) make a copy of the art, and b) use the fucking COLOR DROPPER to make changes? If you can work on something and post it here KNOWING you are going to get criticized, then have the fucking common courtesy of actually TRYING the suggestions - ESPECIALLY IF THEY ARE MOSTLY MINOR. Sometimes minor changes can improve a work - like adding just a pinch of salt to sugar cookies or candies altogether...

None of his criticisms were about my work, they are about the original art. Plus I never asked, I made it for myself and posted it in case someone else would like it. If he actually gave a shit about people improving he would post as anon rather than just giving unsolicited criticism to everyone who posts in the thread to stroke his own ego.

>>1983265
This is useful criticism, thank you, you are exactly right.

>>1983294
>>1983293
You remind me of a college art teacher that thinks he's hot shit cause he got his mediocre work in a local gallery once. But if he was actually a good artist he wouldn't be teaching art in community college to begin with. If you weren't such an autismal faggot, I would be more likely to take your posts seriously, instead you are throwing a fit and shouting about your 40 YEARS of experience because your 'expert advice' is being ignored. If everyone just followed your directions on matters of style, it would just be you making the art in the first place. Criticism isn't a directive, it's supposed to be constructive suggestions and if every artist accepted every piece of criticism given at face value all art would be the same bland shit. I'd be open to criticism of my technique, because you are right that many people have been doing it longer. But just because you have been doing it longer doesn't make you some sort of art god who's word is law. You should be more humble and less autistic and stop namefagging so people can suck your dick. This anon >>1983265 gave more useful advice than you did in 2 sentences and I am happy to take it.
>>
>>1983350
They are about your work because they are legit issues with the original image that you decided to post, I happen to like the image but you would be a fool to think it is well done, you also kinda asked for it by posting your opinion of "I "think" it turned out pretty good" also please keep in mind that this is a request and critique thread and everything posted here can and should be critiqued, I do admit that he can come across too strong he still does have a few good points and flat out dismissing him would be wrong.

Let's go through his post point by point.

>>The colors you are using don't give it any "pop" and, when put on a white/light background, you have white blobs all over the place - some of them not even making the lines smooth like they should for her chin.

This is a cluster fuck of a sentence and I happen to disagree with the Colors not popping (I love you Derpy but you are the last person to give advice on coloring...) There are a lot of White Blobs and while I understand they are there to try to make the image look like there is shininess and depth they are not at all smooth, you probably want to use the ellipse tool to make these as highlights tend to look better if they are more uniform especially if you want it to look Gem like.

>>* Remove the random spots of color in her hair - those blobs should be a light color like the hair and not orange or green - i'd use the blue or pale aqua
I disagree they are supposed to be reflections from her skin and don't look to bad, I would just use the ellipse tool to make them.+

>>* Make the "stars" a bright yellow, so they stand out like something. Maybe a goldish color?
While this could look nice I don't think its necessary to change the color since they are supposed to be reflections (and there is no yellow in the hair) and I would like to see them thinner and a little more uniform.

>>*Remove the grey lies i her hair for the dark blue color with all the blobbies in it.
I agree here, the grey is because of the markers that the original artist used to make the image they are poping through and don't add much to the image. You can leave them if you want but I probably would have changed the colors of them myself.

>>* Make all the lines for her skin the skin tone line, and all the clothing the clothing tone - don't bleed them like you have it - it is just more "mess" to deal with.

This is a preference thing and I am fine with the 2 colors, I would have liked you to draw the lines as one line and then use the pathfinder tool to split the line and then color them differently that way it looks like the lines were continuous rather that 2 separate lines. (Just look at the image if this does not make sense.)

>>* Make the white in her jacket pale grey - I'd also get rid of the line for the shadow separation - you don't use it anywhere else, and it looks wonky.

The shadow separation thing is correct it does look a little wonky, if you are going to do it I would suggest playing with it to try to get it to follow the folds of the clothing and that may help.

>>* The eye-path thing: Waaay too busy. Try muting it down by removing some of that white.
He is right in that it is really busy, I would like to see it simplified by using the ellipse tool as they look a little out of wack as well s potentially getting rid of the gradients that is not used anywhere else.

>>* I like the mouth, but I'd make the lower lip a darker shade.
I really don't like the mouth at all but ymmv.

>>* Unless her hair is fucking glass, I would remove the ear lines and colors - it just looks weird like that - hair you can get away with it, as bangs are usually "thinner" and it is a cheat to show this.
Ignore due to him not knowing it was transparent, Not sure what he was saying on the thinner thing.

>>
>>The one thing *I* would do, is make the lines a bit smoother than what you have. IF you want a neart effect, make the lines look like they were done with a Marker doing a calligraphic style - not just random blobs at points.

This so much this, your lines are all over the place and while I understand that you were trying to copy the marker style that does not mean that you shouldn't try and clean up all the random blobs and bleeds from the markers bleeding in the paper or shaky hands, it just looks better in the vector format.

>>Use less nodes - your lines are not smooth. Also, make sure that when you DO place a node, you make the handles parallel to its partner on the opposite side.
Good general advice and you are using way too many points.

>> Clothing really should NOT have sharp points to it - only exceptions are "rigid" materials or ribbons, and only THEN if they have ends that have been cut that way.
Normally true, there are more exceptions than what he listed but it's still a good rule of thumb.

>>Her mouth lines don't align to make a decent mouth. Unless she has a hairlip and the scar for it, that should be closer to a flat, smooth merge for both lines. You should also use tapered lines for creases in her hair, not block terminations like you have.
Mouth has issues but it's the least of the issues with the image. I use tapper and block depending on the lines but you should use tapered more often in general.

General tips don't call people nigger or autistic even if you think both are true.

The thread is requests and sharing, according to the title. I see nothing wrong with posting something just to share. But that aside, see, this is useful criticism because you explain why and do it in a mature way. Like to an extent I agree with some of his suggestions, making the bottom lip a darker shade is a good idea, and the shading on the shirt I was questioning myself but I just chose to stay faithful to the original rather than make a change. But some of the things he is saying compromise the basic style of the original image, and rather than saying "I don't like this" but recognizing the reason it is like that (colored highlights, the reflections being white instead of yellow, which makes no sense because there is no yellow anywhere on the image, colors not popping, what does this mean even?, multicolored lines are a stylistic choice) If he was just less of a faggot about it and conveyed himself clearly instead of just posting as if he's the word of god because he namefags a general thread and thinks he's hot shit cause he's old as dirt, it would be actually useful feedback. Also opening with "The whole thing is simply chaos" is not helpful. That aside:

>you probably want to use the ellipse tool to make these as highlights tend to look better if they are more uniform
I tend to avoid the ellipse tool because I feel like it looks too clean and artificial sometimes, whereas doing it as a path has a more organic hand-drawn feel. A lot of vectors tend to feel too clean to me, which I guess is the point, and I prefer things a bit messier. But I would be open to it, can you explain more about why the ellipse tool is better?

I'm not sure I understand, can you show an example on mine where that is wrong as a comparison?

>He is right in that it is really busy, I would like to see it simplified by using the ellipse tool as they look a little out of wack as well s potentially getting rid of the gradients that is not used anywhere else.
What do you mean by this, because there are lots of gradients in the hair. Also how could ellipses be used here, since the patterns are geometric? I think he was talking about the shattered gem part on her face, and you are talking about the eye itself?

If you want it to look organic and hand-drawn, then vector art is not the medium to use for that. Vectors are made to be blown up to a million pixels for print, and a messy, hand-drawn style looks bad when it's that large. That said, there is definitely such a thing as "too clean" and those are stroke vectors.
>>
>>1983393
The look of vectors tend to have a cleaner more mechanical feel to them just due to the nature of the medium, when you try to copy something done in another style ( say paintings, markers or colored pencils) you are automaticly making concessions just due to the medium. Heavy texture and fine shading and un-uniform lines that would work with paint look messy in vectors and will look bad, it's not impossible to make work but you are going to have to work a lot more to get the effect you are looking for, and while I commend you on trying to do it you need more experience to pull it off.

I agree that a lot of people's work looks to clean and artificial (I'm the person here that pushes for it a lot and you can see that in my vectors) you also have to have a good starting point for your lines I would suggest that you start with a perfect circle and use the direct selection tool to edit one or to the the points to make the shape close the the original this way you get a line that works better in the vector "style" as well as give it the more organic look you are looking for.

>> I'm not sure I understand, can you show an example on mine where that is wrong as a comparison?
Look at the image I posting in the 2nd post for an example, it was a line that was drawn and then split in order to make the dual colors, I phrased that a little awkward.
>>

>>What do you mean by this, because there are lots of gradients in the hair. Also how could ellipses be used here, since the patterns are geometric? I think he was talking about the shattered gem part on her face, and you are talking about the eye itself?

The eye is a perfect circle and the same with the iris etc so you would want to start with the ellipse tool you can edit them a little to make them work but had drawing them almost always looks worse. I was talking about the eye but yeah he may have been talking about the shattered part. idk the main issue is the eye should be the focal point of the image and yours is a little off , an easy way to see this is to make the image black and white and you will see that the eye blends in with the colors around it. I would say darken or lighten the eye will make it "pop" more. As for the gradients I got off my laptop and onto a good monitor and I can see them a lot better now, they are a little subtle but that's not a bad thing, that was my fault ignore the gradient since you were using them, I would say you might want to add them to her clothing so it makes the image more cohesive.

Have you done a more traditional vector? If not I would suggest trying a few just to learn the basics we preach here and use what you learned to integrate into your more "chaotic" works.

Understood, I'll try to use that circle method more. I think a perfect ellipse tends to look unnatural but I hadn't considered modifying it like that afterward. I think I understand what you mean with the lines, I used a similar method but your way seems better and less messy.

>>1983415
I see what you mean with the eye not being a focal point. It popped a lot before I made all the hair so I never really revisited it. I'm not sure how I could add gradients to her clothing in a way that would look decent but I agree that would be a good idea if it can be done.

I have done like 10 different vector projects, and each one I do I learn a lot more through the process. I tend to like taking challenging or chaotic projects because it's more fun and I learn more from it, otherwise I get bored. Though I usually don't do things with lines, oftentimes I prefer the more minimalist style, so that is my biggest weak point. I don't necessarily feel confident enough to unilaterally make deviations from the source on something so complicated either, which I why I basically kept it the same as the original. That being said pic related was my first vector and it was abysmally shit so I clearly have made some progress. The next thing I make will probably be even more of chaotic mess than the last one in terms of source image, but challenging yourself is how you learn. I'll try to keep your tips in mind though.

If it helps here is the oldest vector I still have so I have come a long way as well.

I don't like the minimalism style normally simply because they remove the eyes and that is what I like the most about a lot of image, and do keep pushing yourself.

If I could make a suggest for your next image focus most of your time on the outlines and perhaps pick an image with a lot of hair, this will force you to get better with outlines and I honestly think that is the most important part of vectoring.

If your outlines suck your image is going to suck.

>You remind me of a college art teacher that thinks he's hot shit cause he got his mediocre work in a local gallery once.

There is a difference between knowing I am "the shit" and knowing enough form experience how things work. Learn the difference - this is definitely the latter to show that I'm not just some idiot trolling - I actually have experience with this shit and I am trying to help you to become better.

>None of his criticisms were about my work,
But they ARe ebout your work - you are direct copying, and any monkey can do that. The true artist will clean things subtly so that the experience is abetter as a whole, just like daul said here >>1983371

> If everyone just followed your directions on matters of style, it would just be you making the art in the first place.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. There are some things that translate to vector, and some that don't - busy things actually hinder the work, as it has nothing to draw the eye to it.

Which is what I said. Still: It wouldn't hurt you to try the minor suggestions I made.

The way it is done there, it's like those peopel IRL that have "cat lip" with that little bit of overlap on the top that gives it that roundness. Just pointing out the references so you can see the madness to the method.

We also talked about running a for fun contest (the normal people that run the contest are broke right now) and we thought that a "lewd" or ecchi theme could be fun. We though a time frame of 2-3 months would work tentatively set to start on say the 25th. Judging would be done by anyone that entered or if anyone wanted to volunteer that could also work.

Thoughts or suggestions?

I said it was after an hour. IF you knew anything about how I do things - I always chunk out the lines first, then adjust them to a specific look.

This is just the first steps, man, but then again I bet you expect things to be done instantaneously by magic!

This is my vector version of a "rough sketch", which you'd know if you ever saw any of my other finished products.

Usually, it's the sane way to think, but for me, I have to lay them out, then determine what line gets what weight to add substance, then I finalize...

>I'm serious though, go ahead and finish it if you want to prove me wrong cause I can respect you putting your money where your mouth is.

Why? daul is already doing the work that I would do, and he is faster. Why duplicate effort, if I am not enthralled with the image in the first place? I posted the only changes I WOULD have made with the transparent hair bits, to give an idea of the madness that could have been. <shrugs>

is inkscape or illustrator preferred usually? Want to start making vectors but im unsure of which to use. I have both.
>>

Illustrator is preferred. Has access to more features.
>>
>>1984579
I prefer Inkscape because the usage is more intuitive and it's free software.
>>
>>1984579
Been a few years since I switched from Inkscape to Illustrator and I don't see any reason to go back. Inkscape worked fine but Illustrator just has more tools. Inkscape used to be recommended for beginners but the only reason I can think of would be it's bezier tool being easier to get used to compared to Illustrator's pentool. I'd recommend going straight to Illustrator, especially if you plan on using gradient meshes.
>>
>>1984579
I use Inkscape because I'm too lazy to pirate Illustrator and learn how to use it, and I've never had a problem with Inkscape. It's very intuitive and easy to use, but Ai is probably more powerful.

That's not really how it works, you'd need to ask the original creator to make those changes.

If you just want a quick and dirty edit? You want the IMT.

If you want a full-scale redraw of the vector from the ground up? You need to find the original source and post it as a request.

Is there some kind of quick guide for making simple pattern backgrounds such as this?

I'm brand new to this and I've been using Inkscape along with Gimp for vectoring and wallpapers but whenever I try to do the background aspect I feel like I'm doing it in a very time-consuming and inefficient way.
