Post your vector requests and recently done vectors here.
>Previous thread → >>1974217

READ THE OP BEFORE POSTING!

>Before requesting, here are some tips:
– Request an image ONCE per thread. Do not bump or second - once is enough.
– Check the lists below to see if your request has already been previously fulfilled.
– All requests are welcome, within reason, but remember:
– The poorer the quality of an image (in resolution and drawing ability), the less likely it will be picked up. The more detail seen and higher the resolution, the better.
– Full-body images preferred. Images cut off on 3 or more sides are very unlikely to be picked up due to their limited usage; keep this in mind when finding an image to request. (Hair or skirt edges that are barely cut off don't usually count)
– Requests for removing the background from an image (called a RENDER) and resizing requests should go to the IMT threads.
– Refrain from using renders for requests. Try to find the original non-rendered image; it is easier for vectorists to work with.
– Note: Overly complicated images are unlikely to be picked up due to their nature. IF your request is taken, please have patience.

First, don't use strokes, like other peopel have said. Your best bet is to NOT do all the small bumps, and go for the GIST of the hand.

Here is a quick five-minute fix using fills. I just flipped the hand I made on our left for the one behind her head. I could adjust it for size and distance later.
>>
>>1985335
>>1985229
Sorry for the newbie question, but what do you guys mean by strokes? I used the Bezier curve and straight line tool in Inkpscape, except with the hair where the shape is made from two different curves then colored in.
>>
>>1985338
When you make a line with the PEN tool and bezier curves, it is a stroke of the pen. If you took that line, and completed it (say, as a circle) then invert the transparent and the black, it "fills" in the circle.

Making shaped fills is a better method to use. Watch daul's tutorial in the OP to understand more of how it works. If you are using inkscape, follow the inkscape tutorial.

>>1986037

Here are the things I would do to fix up that vagina a bit - bear with me as explaining this is going to be difficult:
* The line that makes the curve to the bottom of the vagina - Remove the second (bottom) line that splits off, but before you do that, make the curve go where that split-off line ended as a point, and put the taper further up and over.
* The clitoris and labia bits: that needs to be cut in half (about where the indents in the line happen) the bottom removed, and the rest moved down and over to our right a little.
* Where the clitoris was, you have to put in a small slit/indentation/whatever and shade it.

If all else fails: find a female in a similar osition (real life) and copy it.

You missed a lot of details on her face. Here's how I would do the face on pic attached.

Also, you missed the gradients on the shading of her skin.

Circled in red, there's a blush cut off at the bottom and the other circle is some sort of graphical glitch, might be caused by a mask or could be fixed by re-exporting?

In yellow are some examples of lineart going way too thin. Try and keep your lineart consistent for the most part.

How long on average does it take to make a vector?
I'm trying my hand at vectoring and it seems like you need a lot of patience.
>>
>>1987304
Probably around 10-20 hours for a first time user that doesn't have any experience.

The amount goes up as you get better at it, and add more complexity.

Initially just doing the linework is the most difficult part, but after you master that you transition to all kinds of difficult coloring with gradient meshes and blur effects.

If you get good at it, you'll be one of the few that can do it, and we always have a lot more requests than can be completed.

Consistency is all over the place. I have circled the major offenders.

One of the biggest, is the paddle - the lines are waaaay too wobbly - use less nodes. Also the "hard edge" on it (the handle and paddle) need to be softer - in RL paddles are not edged weapons, but blunt instruments of terror.
The turquoise circle is NOT a circle - use the circle tool and then outline the circle (or put another circle in and cut it out, whatever you choose to do) then cut out the bits that go under things.

The hair is all over the place, as is the zipper - pick a method and stick with it - having one end sharp and the other matching node a soft curve doesn't look good.

Your ends are weird for a lot of lines. I circled a few as examples. This is not saying it is bad, per se, but if you're going to do something as a "style" then the style should apply to the whole work.

Hope this helps.

way too many layers >_<
I split the hair into about 3, because I was ready to have a lot more gradients than I did in the end. I thought I was going to do the glow at the sides, until I realised it was from the bright blue background, and probably shouldn't be there for the vector of just the character. As for all the other layers, I don't know why I used so many, some of them started off on the same layer as the hair stuff, and I wanted to get them out so I just made a new layer a bunch of times. I'm rambling.
Anyway, here I split up the layers a bit and it probably looks like a mess but hopefully it's kinda what you wanted to see!

Line consistency is all over the place - use less nodes for less "wibbly" lines

The eyes need to be completely redone - use the ellipse tool to make them - including the glisten parts.

The mouth tips - make them soft corners - use the "make into curve" tool, then shorten the handles for the nodes.

You have bleeds for colors several places, as well.

Nope this helps.

Overall your linework is good and consistent, so I am going to be a bit nitpicky. Don't take it wrong - look at it as some things you can do in the future to improve things:

* First your hair tips. The ones in RED need to have their points (I'd move the ouside nodes) closer at the points. the GREEN one is the consistency I would use.
* The baubles and dangly strings for them - give them depth with more, or darker shadows. You could also do this with the embroidered gold trim for her dress, as well.
* Turn the round point for the eybrow into a point. Barring that, make them both consistent by terminating the inner ends (nearer her nose) to blunt shapes.
* The trim on her shoulder looks a bit bumpy. I'd check to see if you could drop a node to smooth it out.

Other than that: Good work. Now, start playing with more complex shading and coloring techniques on another image...

Thank you for the tips and what I should fix, I tried doing some custom shadows on the golden trims cause the original didn't had any so I hope it worked out.

And for the shoulder I didn't know which one you meant so I went for the left one.

Better. Now, make the shadow in the collar near her neck (the bendy bit) even darker I have circled it.

Also: good premise on the shading, but one small fail - you didn't loo which way the "light" was coming from. The shadows indicate that the gold trim should have deeper shading on the OPPOSITE side. Make the shadows darker on those I pointed to, and thinner on the other side.

The BLUE circle that is on her button is a special thing. Try making the shadow color fill in the whole button then, where I put that blue circle, put the lighter color on top. Do this for all the buttons and see how it looks.

Hope this helps...

First of all thank you for the all the feedback you've given me so far. It will be of much use when I'll be working on a future vector.

I tried doing what you said with the buttons and how the light is positioned and it looks a lot better now.

If there're any other things that I could improve feel free to tell me, it's a good practice for future works.

Your line consistency is all over the place - give each object its own "weight" and stick with it. I'm using stroke measurements here, but you should stay using fills.

* Using skin as a base with a thickness of ".5"
* Hair USUALLY should be .25, but in this case, since it is a thicker line by design, it should be .75
* The clothing should be a thickness of 1

You also have wobbly lines - a tell-tale that you are using too many nodes. Make the BASE CURVE for the line with as few nodes as possible, then add and drag parallel nodes (side-by-side) to the desired location.

You also have blunt termination ends. Turn those into tapers like the arrows point to in the image.

Finally, the collar - that is a wiersd bend. Make it smooth, to make it look like real clothing more.

Hope this helps.

Hey guys, I'm in the market for a mouse around $25.

Can someone recommend one that is decent more vectoring? I know there's no such thing as a vector mouse but if you guys have a mouse you like I'd like to know.
>>
>>1990457
All you need is a good scroll wheel that will last you years. A generic mouse that costs you 10-15$ will probably do just that. A left click that doesn't double click would also be good.

You don't need anything else for just vectoring.

You have line consistency issues. Also, uoi missed a few places where color needs to be added.

One of the things I would fix, is the hairband frill that has he line for the hair - the placements of the lines make it all just converge instead od one thing going under or over another.. I'd fix it by better tracing out the "curve for the lock of hair going to her ear, and put in a taper.

Also like the other starting anon, you need to pull your air tips 0 they are making almost a "fat end" affect, when the taper should be making it thinner. Look at >>1989577
Got what I told them to do with the hair tips...

Hope this helps.

Yes, this is probably a weird request, and i would be glad to provide more pics if necessary, but... Can someone make a vector of the third weapon in there? No matter how hard i look for, there is just not a single pic of that weapon alone AND in high quality.
>>
File: hair.png (1B, 486x500px)

1B, 486x500px
So I'm working on my 2nd vector and I've kinda this "issue" where I would like to see what the best way is to fix this.

So in some parts of my art I've these lines of hair that join out and back into my main hair line. So what I did was that I drew the main line added the side lines and then I deleted the part that wasn't there with drawing a shape and do minus front but now I've the feeling it doesn't look as nice as I want it to be...

So is there any way to do this better or should I just keep changing my nodes so joins in and out nicely?
>>
>>1990824
I would just draw the side line under or above the main line.
It will always look weird if you join the lines. You can try to draw away the attention to the joint by making the gap smaller or by making the filling off your lines thinner.
Another way is by using colored outlines.
>>
>>1990824
I would do them as two separate lines - the "over" part should have tapers like the bottom part on each side, with the other line merges into it, like at that top intersection. I'd also make it a smooth transition. IF the hair starts in front like it does, and goes BEHIND, then I would make the lower line continue.

Hard to give a straight answer, it depends on the complexity. For example >>1994655 took me about 4 hours while >>1986002 took me about 5 days of constant work, so over 50 hours.

One thing is that you will get faster with practice but in general it's a very long process and the more time you will put on your vectors, the better they'll turn out. You don't want to rush.

Using strokes like this will drop the hour count considerably but personally, I think it looks like shit. Like I said, you don't want to rush things to get a better result. If you are interested in improving, I'd recommend starting over and using filled shapes instead of strokes. If you don't know how to use filled shapes, the tutorial in the OP should help.

For pointers, other than dropping the strokes, would be to always start off your eyes with the ellipse tool then modify them accordingly.

I'll leave an example of how I would do part of the same image.
>>
>>1995591
ah, I did do the inkscape tutorial and read the thread but i didn't get what stroke v shapes meant, so lines do count as strokes then? i used shapes for the OP tutorial but i felt that lines worked for the bakemonogatari style (albeit i used black instead of some other colour). Thanks

>>1995592
Strokes are automated and unless you apply effects to them, they will look very rigid and flat. They are also a lot less malleable than fills. Strokes are a tool while fills are a technique.

Most screencaps from anime will have lines that resemble strokes, I assume it's due to how to do animation, most likely to save time. It's up to you to decide how you want to replicate elements of the image to attain the best result. Like I stated, personally I hate how strokes look so I consider it something to be modified from the original in general. It's also often used by people that are lazy and don't want to spend the time on their vector.

Just keep in mind that the point of vector tracing is to improve an image in multiple aspects, primarily, it's resolution. That also includes the sharpness, redrawing cutoff elements, fixing mistakes/errors from the original, color correction among many other things.

It also looks like a good vector for someone to practice gradient meshing.

I'd probably pick it up if I had more time.

passable, but your line consistency is all over the place - especially the hair. You also have kinks where the lines shouls be smoother. I started circling things, then realized it would be easier to just circle the whole thing.

Jer elbows shous be smooth curves, the kink in her leg is smooth, too.

And all your ends if lines need to be tapers.

not sure I understand. it's all fills, do you mean like single strands of hair should come to a point?

The top bits are tapers.

You should use tapers for ahir ends that stick out, like her cowlick.

You should also use tapers for the creases in her clothing - you know, the lines that aren't attached to anything?

Looked at circled as to where the tapers need to be used... I didn't circle all of them, by the way. And the one with the text is the best example of some of the independent lines, and how they need to be formed....

Are there any tools/techniques in inkscape to add "texture" (like 1500 thread count satin, or a watercolor blur) to a vector? Or should it just be done in post processing?

I've got a question involving line thickness. So for most vectors you've the body, hair and clothes, I was wondering what the "best" way is to give each separate part a different line thickness.

So should the line thickness of your body be bigger than your hair and clothes (depends what kind of clothing) and your hair be the thinnest lines? I know depth is also an element but I'm now asking for the general image of which should be thicker.
>>
>>1997720
The rules I always use:
* Hair should be your thinnest lines, as they are the thinnest parts of your body.
* Skin is your median point. This is so, if you have a thin fabric like nylon stockings, you can make the line between the thickness of the skin and the thickness of the hair.
* Clothing thicknesses should be nased on the material or "feel" - Best example: Nylon - when used for stockings, it's thin, so it should be thin like stated above. HOWEVER, when nylon and other thin synthetics are used for things like life preservers or down jackets/vests, to make them appear thicker, they should have thicker lines.
* Machined parts should always have a base thickness of "!" stroke for things liek standard metals/armor to give them a thick feeling. If the piece is on something delicate, the base should be no more than .25 but this is a BASE - not the actual stroke. If you have an item that is delicate like a knife, the base of "!" is the lines used for the flay of thr blade, tang and hilt, while the .25 now becomes the edge of the blade.

Hope that helps.

Posting here as a crossboarder from /o/, making anime stickers.

Last of my few designs have been using constant thickness strokes for lineart but results have been subpar. Started using fills to give more variation in line thickness, but I haven't really gotten the hang of it or what tools to use. Besides the pen tool and convert anchor tool, where should I start?

Really, we don't if you follow those basice, you can then make up your own guides for everything else. I had a comprehensive list before (if you check the archive) but paring it to this give people insight without taking away their freedoms of expressions.

Another thing to do, if you want it, is to make the thing you want to "pop" your thickest lines - usually the object closest to the viewer...

Do you mean if your vector fits the theme or if criticism is allowed?

Also, in case you aren't already part of the DA group, let me know and I'll invite you so you can submit it to the contest folder.

Criticism like:"Hey that part looks weird or those lines are not consistent".But desu I'll just see after the contest what I could've done better, so just leave it.

And for the DA group I think I'm just a member but not a contributor. I'll pm the group when I'm 100% sure it's finished.

Can someone make a vector of the top image with the speech bubbles cut out (the one with the girl wiping tears)? Thanks!
>>
>>1999392
2 weeks isn't very long considering it can easily take over a month to finish a project in the more complex cases. For example, I've been working on >>1997657 for quite a few months now amongst other projects and I'm not a very busy person compared to others. Vectorfags do this as a hobby and there aren't many of us so of course it'd take a while and in most cases the requests that interest us the most on a personal level would take priority.

If you aren't satisfied with waiting and not knowing when it'll get picked up, if ever, then you could either try to learn how to do it yourself or offer to commission someone for it. If your request is still viewable in this thread, link it and I can try and give you an opinion on why I think it hasn't been picked up yet. Otherwise, you can wait for the new thread to pop up soon and re-request again. Dedication pays off in some cases, there has been a few requests that were picked up and fulfilled after being actively requested in each thread for over a year and even longer in some cases, for example, the Full Metal Panic and Miss Monochrome vectors.
>>

There are several things going on, if you bothered to read the OP:
* People have real lives, and do this as a hobby.
* They are not getting paid to do it.
* They are under no obligation to pick it up if they dont' like it.

It might be that your image falls under one of these categories. If you don't like this, then take up vectoring yourself - that is what the tutorials are for.
