Just tried to look for a Donkey Kong 64 Rom this past week, and I couldn't find it anywhere.

Is this the death of emulation? I've been hearing that Nintendo and several other companies have been sending C&Ds like crazy, forcing all these retro games to officially not exist until they say so.

What will you do now?

>>

shh I just wanted to play a somewhat decent game again for once in my life
>>
>>4105903
>barely complete, files missing

This isn't enough, and you know it.
>>
>>4105897
Sometimes I entertain the idea of video games made all the way up to 1987 are legal to emulate hands down, with stuff from 1988-2000 being a gray area, save for the devs and publishers say its okay outright. Anything after 2000 is usually not legal for emulation save for if the company(or studio) that made it went under or they explicitly say its okay. Just a thought.
>>
>be a big game company with shitty archival practices
>download ROMs from internet
>demand that the websites you just downloaded ROMs from take down said ROMs under threat of legal action
>sell said ROMs to customers
>>
Go to a rom site that's slightly shadier than your usual one?

Make sure your script blockers are on.
>>
>>4105897
>The Death of Emulation
Are you retarded? Nintendo sent C&D only because they were releasing that SNES mini shit.
Just grab it of sites that don't give a shit about them.

Do you have a changelog between this and the 2016 set?

I only have the 2016 sets.
>>
>>4105920
Its also not nintendo doing this shit.

But i'll check out this site, granted it doesn't give me random malware
>>
>>4105920
>Are you retarded? Nintendo sent C&D only because they were releasing that SNES mini shit.

Does that even matter?
Emuparadise will never have Nintendo ROMs ever again.
>>
>>4106047
>Emuparadise
So what?
>>
>>4106047

did they just take down first party Nintendo games? because I was downloading SNES roms from there yesterday
>>
>>4105897
Breaking news: Kid who just learned about emulation can't use google.
>>
>>4105913
why not just rip your own rom
>>
Eh, this will just get me into Genesis emulation now. It's a blessing in disguise I guess. I have a list of 50 or so games I've been meaning to try.
>>
Literally took me half a minute to find a DK 64 ROM. Piss off.
>>
>>4106215
They may have. kazzo-based NES rippers automatically generate ines headers, which is what the "they must have gotten it from a pirate site" people were fussing over.
>>
>>4105897
If you didn't see this coming years ago and grab everything you thought you might want while it was easy then it's your own fault. Stop being entitled.
>>
>>4105913
That's perfectly within both their legal rights and morality.
>>
>>4106253
Or maybe they have their own device. I can't see them using a third party one when they can easily make one themselves.
>>
>>4105897
This is nothing new, same thing already happened in the early 2000s.
>>
This happened back in 2007, where a bunch of ROM sites removed Nintendo and Capcom games, saying that they were "ESA Protected"

They'll get uploaded again eventually.
>>
>>4106295
Amen
>>
>>4106297
it's lazy. they should keep proper archives of their own games and not have to download someone else's.
>>
>>4105926

Same, though this might (MIGHT) help: http://datomatic.no-intro.org/

This is a bit like redump's public database, only for No-Intro. I just found out about it recently, so I'm not sure if there's some way you could compare/contrast set revisions like that. It's...A little hinky in the usability department, but not at all impossible to work once you get used to it.
>>
>>4105910

Propose your own cataloging standard then, cockmunch.
>>
>>4105912

You mean "sane copyright law"? Yeah, forget it, not gonna happen. No longer content with merely owning half the fucking world, corporations also want to be able to own ideas.

You will bow to the Corporate.
>>
>>4106295

This, minus the "entitled" bit.

Traditional HDD storage is like a penny a GB now, OP. Get yourself a couple externals and go to town next time you're being given the opportunity.
>>
>>4106312

Why? Because they're Nintendo?
>>
You know there are games other than Nintendo right?
>>
>>4106297

Legally, I'll grant you. I'd just *love* to see your half-assed moral justification now.
>>
>>4106503

You assume they see any value besides the purely monetary in their creations in the first place. They do not.

It's all just another kind of widget to them.

This. Super Mario World was taken off ROMHustler for a while and it returned like two years later.
>>

>everything i disagree with is from /pol/
>>
>>4106549

You should not receive compensation for the same good or service until the day you die. That is an absurd argument unsupported by any hard economic data or theory.

The entire landscape of copyright law is designed to hold culture hostage, so that only the higher economic classes may ever be inspired to do great things.

CompleteROMs has a rom of Donkey Kong 64 you can download.
>>
>>4105921
This is a really nice collection, thanks for posting it.
>>
>>4106047
I've bene using emuparadise since its inception. Do you know how many times they've had to remove shit for a few months thanks to Nindento being crybabies? A lot. They'll be back soon. Look for good sets on torrent sites in the meantime.
>>

>>

So has Romhustler. OP is just a fear mongering retard who doesn't know how to use Google.
>>
Luckily I have every snes, nes, and gameboy rom hoarded
>>
>>4107804
Same, I'm aslo trying to get every worthwhile PS1, PS2, GCN and Wii game though.

I need a new HDD.
>>
>>4105908
Well then you're looking in the wrong place, because Donkey Kong 64 isn't anywhere near "somewhat decent".
>>
>>4107836
you right desu
>>
>>4105897
Someone should right a /vr/etards guide to emulation copypasta.
>>
>>4108495
How hard is it?

>Google [GAMENAME] ROM
>Launch Emulator
>???

If you're a serious data hoarder, download the no-intro sets.
>>
I went on pirate bay and downloaded a pack with all nintendo 64 roms. I think it was 4 gigabyte.

Learn to change DNS servers if you can't access torrent sites.
>>
Just go on the pirate bay and download a big pack of every rom
>>
>>4108629
All N64 ROMs is closer to 14gigs zipped.

Also, it's hard to do complete sets of anything past the 5th gen.

The complete DS romset is 200gb.
>>
>>4108710

2TB hard drives are like $60 now. Mow some lawns.

The only limiting factor is if you like in some shithole where your ISP has a download cap or something.
>>
>>4108723
All I'm saying is that that shit adds up.

I've got like 5tb in storage, but that's all being pretty well used between operating systems, music, movies, PC games, porn, and other random shit.
>>
>>4108710
wrong, wrong, wrong. what a colossal faggot
>>
>>4108747
Not him but that's insane. I have 500gb of storage and I haven't even filled it all yet.
>>
>>4108747

Before I got into private torrent trackers, I usually deleted everything I watched. I didn't have need for anything else than a small SSD for my OS and a couple of games.

I only have an almost ten year old 2 tb harddrive for seeding, but it really filled up fast.
>>
>>4110178
Where's your sources then faggot? because I have numbers.
N64 - 11.6 gigs zipped
DS - 207 gigs (avg of 30mb, ~7000 games released)

>>4110194
Here's my breakdown:
>1tb of PC games
>60gb of music
>500gb of movies
>300gb of TV shows/anime
>500gb of ROMs
>30gb of porn

The rest of the space is used up by multiple redundant backups of my PC/important files/anime.
>>
>>4105897
>What will you do now?
Wait for it to blow over like every other time.
>>
>>4106047

Just torrent it. If the cunty companies will not play nice, we do not need to either.
>>
>>4105897
There has been a thread like this. You probably looked at emupardise and nothing else. Tons of sites still host Nintendo roms.
>>
woah i can't believe emulate is fucking dead!
it's dead! forever! you allowed this to happen, /vr/! why didn't you warn me before?! i wanted to download super mario world for my wife's daughter but the rom was not there on emuparadise and he started to cry! it is all your fault, /v/!
>>
>can't find a ROM due to incompetence
>OMG this is the death of EMULATION forEVER
Come on, lad.
>>
>>4110341
get a life
>>
>>4110809
>play nice
You just implied that them wanting their things to not be illegally obtained is not "playing nice". You should grow up, kid. This site is 18+
>>
>>4108495
They already did, it's listed in the Sticky. That wiki also contains links to ROMs in case anyone can't figure out how to use Google.

And we still get mouthbreathers like OP asking "HOW DO I FIND ROMZ?!"
>>
>>4105913
I wouldn't be so upset by this if they weren't so shit at offering everything available. Nintendo in particular.

>constant need to re-buy or pay small fees to keep your games on your current console
>slowly drip feeding games that were available on their E-shop already in the previous generation
>holding back some highly anticipated games, leaving people to speculate the reasons, and when it's finally released their answer was "We were just waiting for the right timing."
>They don't even offer every version of the game, we'll get Wario's Woods on the NES for the 6th time but they've yet to even acknolwedge the SNES release, not one single re-release of their arcade games, but we still get the shitty NES ports

Like if they want to keep selling their old content, they should at least do it right and make it all available.
>>
>>4110852
>wife's daughter

>>
>>4111984
Shitty /vpol/ memes spammed by underage b& shitters.
>>
>>4110869
>them wanting their things to not be illegally obtained
Maybe they shouldn't illegally obtain them themselves.
>>
>>4111989
How exactly do you figure they did that?
>>
>>4112174
You know the drill, nintendo vc roms have ines headers, etc
>>
>>4112184
Do you think you have a patent on ines headers and etc? lol.
>>
The only reason I started investing in N64 hardware is because of how piss poor its emulation scene is.

But, to each his own.
>>
>>4112704
Why would Nintendo use INES headers?
>>
>>4105897
God I hope so. I want owning physical games to make a comeback. There's nothing like the feeling of opening up a box and holding a physical game in your hands. It would teach a lesson to all those people who sneer at "buyfags".

Realistically you can't kill emulation though, you can only make it harder for casuals. People will always be distributing ROMs on torrents, IRC channels, etc.
>>
The only people killing emulation are buyfags and 17 year olds like OP that know jack shit
>>
>>4113558
Because it's a free standard that's been proven to work over many years and developing their own would take time and money?
>>
>>4105913
I thought the only rom that actually had an ines header was Super Mario Bros?
>>
>download the full sets of cartridge based consoles
>let them in your hd, flashdrive or cloud storage
>????
the sizes are pretty small and it's always worthy as sometimes you dig through games you otherwise would never touch. Anyway I don't think it's THAT hard to find this specific game loose in the wild, I even found it in a famous rom website now
