It's a pretty fun game, I would definitely recommend it. I spent a fair bit last summer playing it, try your best to exploit the movement in it as much as possible, it's a lot of fun to do so.

But holy hell is going through the game getting all the items on one continue is tough

I got the best ending after a good six months of trying off and on.

Luckily the last stage has a kind of exploit where you can sacrifice three lives to go into the final boss with three health potions. I don't think I would have had the stamina to beat him otherwise.
