PROTIP: If you would like to submit any news or your personal map or mod releases here, please reply/backlink to this post.
And just a little pointer for those that use 4chanX and want to make a new thread, at least copy and paste the body of texts of both the OP and news post from an archived version so I don't have to clean up all the embed tags and find the YT links again.
Thank you.

Stop trying to derail the thread with AGDQ shit you fucking bellend.

I recognize two out of three. Not bad, I guess?
who made the op pic anyway?
also a quake thing i felt could've been done better
how is everyone's highway to hell/QUMP maps coming along?
There's too much words in that argument in that other thread.
What is the majority opinion, and which side gets mocked more: That Doom4Guy is DoomGuy, or that they are two separate people?
>>3729053
>who uses 4chanx
It's a lot better than the native extension.
The filter is excellent.
>>3729053
Nope, still has substantially more features. I use the cdd0 fork.
Image dumping at least is pretty great to have.
>>3729065
>What is the majority opinion
who fucking cares about the plot in a doom game
>>3729071
The ccd0 fork is the only one worth using. All the other forks are broken or deprecated.
>>3729065
Who cares? They dropped so much sequelbait in the last 4 missions that anyone who gives a shit will probably find out in 2 years time.
>>3729063
i'm sad that highway to hell has been consistently missed among all the OP news updates, but my map is coming along fine. took me a bit of time to actually figure out what I want to make, but i'm gonna squeeze out what i can in this last week.
>>3729082
Next question: all that sequelbait, will it end up in an expansion or a new game?
>>3729085
Quote the OP fella. Though I haven't made a new thread since last month so I'm not sure if you did and that the other guy(s) forgot or something.
>>3729092
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
>>3729092
>tfw they call it DOOM 2
>>3729108
>There's an Entryway remix
>>3729095
The new OP(s) has/have been having a good amount of trouble keeping up with some news, so a good handful of things have gotten lost in the shuffle.
>>3729117
By basically shitting out the thread at the last minute? I'll give them that adding in all the news does take a fair bit of time when there's a good portion of stuff linked, but the actual OP post itself only needs to change the previous thread numbers. So even then there's still a fair window when the thread itself is created.
I'm not gonna lie, it took me a while to figure out Randi's absence. Just looking at the post history says it all. Well, it is what it is.
Now it makes me glad Randi handed over everything to close friends.
>>3729070
How did Doomguy end up on a version of Mars around which both moons are whole and in orbit if the first UAC hell invasion happened and multiverse time distortion isn't necessary for that theory?
>>3729147
Doomguy 2016 isn't "native" to this dimension, he was found in hell.
>>3729147
because there's multiple universes. the events don't happen identical to how they happened in the original game.
Also is there any possibility of modding doom 2016 now that the anti piracy has been removed?
Or is everything still restricted to ripping?
Lesson of the day: Don't piss off 'Multiverse Doomguy' deniers.
>>3729193
For now, people have managed to figure out a way to extract models. I'd wager that we'll get to see some very minuscule changes but nothing major.
>>3729195
Model extraction was figured out well before Denuvo was removed.
>>3729189
>>3729193
I was addressing someone who was saying that Multiverse Theory isn't involved in the "It's the original Doomguy" theory. I'd be able to entertain the idea that it was the same Doomguy if it didn't rely so heavily on Multiverses and bringing up Multiverse Theory in canons that don't ever acknowledge Multiverse Theory wasn't the cornerstone of damn near every single fucking shitty outlandish fan theory.
>>3729231

How do I be a cool nihilist like you?
I bet you get tons of sex.
>>3729239
>1 post

>>3729231
It's just the inclusion of Multiverses that do it for me, they're fucking retarded and the only time they're ever backed up canonically is when comic book writers need a way to placate all the sweaty nerds crying that their favorite superhero backstories are being retconned.
>>3729253
You sound like you have other issues, friend.
>>3729065
It doesn't really matter that much, but I personally divide it up like this in my head:
>Doom 1/2/Final
>Doom 3
>Doom 64/2016
That they're all three different people.
It's what makes sense to me anyway.
>>3729259

The Doom 64 guy is the Doom 3 guy?
doom 4 is fun
>>3729378
It's pretty good yeah, but it ain't retro.
>>3729378
Doom is fun.
>>3729260
Thought it was the same guy?
Wasn't the thing that both TNT and Plutonia were both two different possible sequels to Doom 2, but they were independent from each other and not strictly related to one another?
>>3729371
If you want him to be.
I feel Doom 3 is completely removed from the original games because of how literally everything is different, and it doesn't really fit the new game either, I feel that's it's own story, and in my opinion it's probably better that way. I never felt it fit much with Doom 64, even though they both try for a bit of a horror thing.
Likewise I felt so for Doom 64, but with Doom 4 (2016), they kind of used it as a springboard, and the character there fits the ending of Doom 64 just fine.
>>3729386
I just got a 1070 and it was the first game I tried
Not sure what I should set my film grain to though
Looks great
>>3729383
I can shitpost AND kill demons without letting go of my phone. Doom is fun
>>3729384
I thought the story in Doom 64 was that he was the Doom guy of 1 and 2 and after realizing that every time he cleans up the demon mess they just keep coming back for more he decides to seal himself in hell to forever prevent demons from invading the human dimension ever again, which I think is the ultimate badass ending of anything ever
>>3728532

I started the entrance but got a side job doing an electrical installation in a club and didn't touch it in 2 weeks, I just go back and throw myself on the bed, I don't even lunch

>>3729063
No good.
>>3729435
that looks pretty good to me
>>3729396
Yes, it'd also fit with Doom 2016's story, where he was in hell and across time and space tearing shit up, making many Doomers WADs canon, funnily enough.
Then got trapped at some point, discovered by "this dimension" and brought out and then released by Samuel Hayden.
>>3729439
I want to do "Doomguy breaks down in front of a spooky house" and I can make a spooky mansion, visually, but can't design anything in it that is actually fun to play.
These don't have to be MP compatible at all, right?

>gameplay mod designed around currency and upgrades
>some weapons have infinite ammo
Fuck. Psychic did the same thing and I hated it. Infinite ammo anything always ruins a mod for me.
I wish WW would work on his Cold Hard Cash mod already.
>>3729141
Yeah. As sad as it is to see Zdoom itself close, Randi being out of the picture probably means faster development for GZDoom.
>>3729469
The pistol, shotgun, and machinegun have infinite ammo, the rocket launcher, plasma gun and BFG weapons have limited ammo
Even the original doom had two weapons with infinite ammo anon
Did the first episode of "Strange Aeons".
It's actually alright, levels are easy to quickly romp through but they don't all look the same and provide variety.
>>3729476
The episodes all have different themes. First is floating cities, second is factories, third is lovecraft egypt, forth is iceworld and last is a mishmash of everything.
It's a really nice and moody set. I like the factory episode the most.
There's even PDFs that come with it that actually gives the wad a story.
>>3729486
You start off with it. It's pretty handy.
>>3729490
It's crazy good, to the point where it begs the question: why even bother with the chainsaw and fist
>>3729475
Swinging your fists doesn't use "ammo" and the chainsaw is just an upgraded version of that which still has little utility.
Infinite ammo firearms just encourage me to take my time to whittle down enemies from a safe spot which is boring and tedious, and I don't like forcing myself to play faster just because I can. That is shit game design to me. I like going fast, I like using weapons that are costly to fire but that doesn't work for me unless the game pressures me to do so.
>>3729495
Did you ever have that issue in Quake 2, or Unreal?
Or Zero Tolerance? The flaregun has infinite ammo and hits like a freight train

Here's a set of maps I just completed, 4/9 an episode. For Doom 2. Each level has custom music, whether it be something I made or just a loop and re-instrumentation of an existing track. Should work with PrBoom. Some of you might remember the last time I released this. Here's a video of the first two maps.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOgK0FxiXuU
>>3729681
The music for map 2 in the video has been replaced by the way, it was just a placeholder track.

Kek, just kidding. D-Touch's Software 1993 makes shit crunchy and run great.I can't stop shilling and playing D-Touch. I have complete autonomous Doom playing ability on my phone now.
It's amazing that the last time I played Doom on a handheld, it was the gimpy GBA version.
Truly we live in pretty aight times, when I can run almost any wad on a device so much smaller and stronger than what it took to play Doom in 92-96

While I like the concept of d-touch I am complete rubbish at it, I tried using a bluetooth mouse/keyboard but the mouse doesn't work right; maybe if I found a cheap BT controller I could hack it but the touch controls that I can get to work alright for the quake ii port doesn't work out so well for doom, at least for me.
So how bout that Brutal Doom?
>>3730034
But that's what I don't understand, what is the point of using a keyboard to play Doom on Android? Why don't you just play Doom on a laptop, then?
Hey, good for those who can handle playing Doom on Android, but it's just not for me.
>>3730045

I wonder what Phobos and Deimos are like in the 2016 universe. There's mention of mining operations in-game about the moons, but they never go into detail if it's just a few rover bots or if they have full blown UAC installations posted on them.
>>3729065
My thoughts on it were that it's Doomguy and the only reason this new UAC thinks he's some ancient figure is because time and space in Hell moves slowly and/or just doesn't follow the standard rules of physics.
Huh. so I made a 65535x65535 room, and there is essentially no "out of bounds" area whatsoever because I used the entire building space. The walls also don't properly function, so I can walk through them and basically "warp" to the other side of the map.

Before the weapon wheel glitch, how did you not notice it killing everything except bosses instantly? The original BFG only fires an orb plus tracers. The new one has omni-directional homing instagib rays. You don't even need to get to the slowdown glitch. It doesn't kill the mastermind in less than a second realtime unlike the original though
>>3730671
Maybe.
Personally I am getting pissed off at some stuff, so I could try writing plugin with more line-altering tools ( extrusion ), flipping and sort of secondary layer ( doesn't actually set vertices/lines until desired, so you can draw shapes freely over stuff )

The multiple dimensions in the game lore aren't the same as acknowledging Divergent Universes a.k.a. Multiverse Theory, only one version of any given dimension is ever mentioned so asserting that they must be multiverses is still a stretch. We're operating on fantasy logic: Earth, Heaven and Hell, not theoretical physics.
You're imagining any mention of another "Earth", at most he's said to be from Earth a long time ago. To anyone not looking to validate their Multiverse Theory there's nothing to suggest this isn't just mentioning the Earth that exists in Doom 2016 rather than a different Earth, because of how big of a stretch Multiverse Theory is. See how that works? Because there was a little game of telephone with the beta leaks and the first information everyone got before getting a verbatim transcript of the leaked dialog was some dipshit paraphrasing saying that that it mentioned Multiverses, everyone ended up going into the game reading fucking Multiverses into every piece of lore they could and the guy who leaked it was just patient zero. It's like Squall is Dead: Nobody who isn't already looking for ways to justify the theory is going around plugging all the plot holes with "Must be a Multiverse!/Squall must be dead!" If you're not severely afflicted with confirmation bias, the plot holes are just plot holes. Even the piece of lore that sparked it sounds like a completely self-contained story with no Multiverses if you're not explicitly inserting Multiverses into every plot hole while listening to it.

explain Doomslayer having the armour from Doom 1-64 before he was given new UAC armour (that no one in the UAC in the game wears)
>>3731118
how about you explain why there is a Doom poster on the wall in one of the levels. Does Doom (the 1993 computer game) exist in the world of Doom 2016? Or is it just a dumb meaningless easter egg that only a sperg would develop elaborate theories about?
>>3731127
It's popular enough in our world that I would say a YES, it both existed AND was based off of real events in-universe.
In Doom 2016, DOOM 1993 is a true story.
>>3731127
Probably for the same reason that Wolfenstein levels are in Doom 2: Why not?
>>3731118
He gets a new set of armor in D64. He wore standard issue UAC security armor before; In D64, he wears UAC Elite armor- The Elite division of the uac ONLY EXISTS BECAUSE of the Doomguy; who is the only purely biological member. All other UAC elite are cybernetic augmented.
>>3731127
Its a game, dont get too autistic about it.
That goes for everyone ITT. Carmack himself said story was unimportant, "canon" always comes later, and is rarely uniform. Looking for a solid canon or links between the games will prove fruitless.

The armor from Doom 1-2 is literally just some green plate with a helmet, no branding, and only appears in Doom 2016 in a *picture* where it isn't referred to explicitly as UAC armor or anything of the like. Additionally, if he's the Doomguy from 64 and that's where the story connects and it's super duper intentional as the claim goes, the armor ought to look like this.
The game went through a lot of re-writes. In the 2015 gameplay reveal they showed the armor but the Night Sentinels symbol was completely missing from the helmet, indicating that the origin story was probably written more than halfway through development and after the design of the armor and it was likely initially designed as UAC armor, from the UAC, in the universe the campaign exists in. It has human/UAC branding on it because a) It was already made, revealed, rigged and animated and b) it's fucking Doom and you shouldn't be reading so far into the plot that you're concluding that some far fetched bullshit like Multiverse Time Distortion is going on to explain the intricate details of the design of his badass super suit.
>>3731145
It's literally just the UT3 deathmatch demo from the Unreal Development Kit with its own levels, player movement slightly sped up and everything reskinned and also the weapons are boring and derivative instead of the iconic Unreal ones. The bots are somehow be completely fucking retarded compared to the comparatively decent ones that were in UT3 despite using pretty much the same bot code, the multiplayer is dead and it runs worse than UT3 despite having about the same level of detail. You're better off downloading a 2k4 map pack or a UT3 balance mutator because that's pretty much all you're getting.
>>3731127
Easter egg? We're talking about actually story elements dumbass
>>3731132
The armour in 2016 he gets in Hell
>>3731160
The Doomslayer's original armor looking like the Doom 1/2 armor is an easter egg. Not even a new one, at that.
>>3731164
That's a picture from Doom 3 dumbass
>>3731165
That's the fucking point. They've dropped "Lore item depicts original Doom armor LOL!" as an easter egg before.
>>3731167
Except it's an actually story element in Doom 2016
>>3731169
It's an actual story element in Doom 3. That tablet is part of the actual Doom 3 story, it's a character the martians talk about called The Hero.
>>3731171
yeah Doom 3 talks about what the Doomguy does after Doom 64.
Doom 2016 does the same thing except you're playing as him.
>>3731150
>the armor ought to look like this
why would he still be wearing that piece of shit over a suit that lets him be able to smash shit left and right effortlessly?
>In the 2015 gameplay reveal they showed the armor but the Night Sentinels symbol was completely missing from the helmet, indicating that the origin story was probably written more than halfway through development and after the design of the armor and it was likely initially designed as UAC armor
if the alpha and beta datadiving was of any clue (given how close both were to the game at first showcase than it did at launch) certain story elements, such as the revenant's origin and the weaponizing of demons from UAC scientists were already present.
alongside, you know, the entire fucking plot up to that point.
>>3731176
Yeah, in mid 2016 almost a full year after the reveal. Totally conclusive evidence that the plot existed when the armor was designed and revealed in 2015. Oh shit, the story was finalized a month before release? Guess it was never rewritten ever.
>>3731180
as long as it gets him (you)s it'll continue
>>3731180
When a theory involves going into minute details of a game so far that you're bringing up shit the writers probably didn't even think about as a evidence, like what little details the artists put on a suit of armor, that's probably a good indication that it's fucking retarded.
>/DOOM/ - It's just a theory, A GAME theory
>>3731159
That's disappointing to hear
Isn't UT3 already pretty balanced as it is
>>3731216
Dunno, I checked, all damages are scaled down compared to UT2004.
I still prefer UT99. A single bio shot was 40 dmg. You died in 3 hits.
>>3731118
Well you see, Doomguy ate the bean burrito for lunch.
>>3731150
No, it shouldn't. It's implicitly state he's given ANOTHER set of armor after the D64 one; the Praetor, which by the sounds of it, is pretty similar to the Praelanthor
>>3731217
I'm not disputing that the character gets an angel battlesuit since that's pretty explicitly stated in the storyline, the claim is that it's an angel battlesuit from the UAC/a divergent Earth timeline and that legitimizes the story that he's from a multiverse somehow, which is a stretch on top of a stretch.
I still don't think it was always intended to be a hellsuit and the Doomslayer story existed during the reveal, though. If you followed development, you'd notice how after the reveal id listened to feedback and fixed most of the things people were complaining about, right? Adding color and fixing criticisms about the gameplay. The new Doomguy being a regular joe in a generic supersoldier power suit was one of the big criticisms. The suit was already designed and revealed at that point so it's not like they'd completely redesign it to fit the Doomslayer plot since it's a re-imagining of a series where plenty of other unexplained tech exists in hell. Which is another point, actually - robot parts exist on the demons and all throughout hell in Doom 1 & 2 with zero explanation. If it's a continuation of those why do they need to explain it with the UAC weaponizing demons? Wouldn't there already be Revenants and robotic Mancubi in hell? The Multiverse theory is completely full of holes.
>>3731249
Someone, somewhere, is a traitorous little shit. And your ancestor had a rival...
>>3731249
Who cares? DOOM 2 will explain it.
>>3731249
You kicked hell's ass so hard they had to go to another universe to find another uac to take over, subtly. By the time you arrive, (because hell itself is a multiverse) demons are in business suits.
And then Going Down
>>3731249
You basically keep killing eldritch abominations. All that power has to go SOMEWHERE, and the Doomguy is about as fucking insane as Ranger is. If not moreso.

>>3731258
>>3730940
Yeah.
I am aware that the tools would be pretty niche in use, but goddamn, I would like them to enable my wasting of linedefs.
>>3731263
Other physical dimensions existing doesn't confirm Multiverses since "Multiverses" in this case has to refer to divergent realities to support the theory while every alternate dimension in Doom so far has been a completely different place. Like I said, this is fantasy worldbuilding not theoretical physics.
To canonically confirm the sort of mechanics the theory claims are at work in the plot, then there would have to be Version A and Version B, C, D, ∞ etc. of each universe acknowledged in the plot somewhere, so that Version A (Doom 1993) can exist for Doomguy to travel into Version B (2016). That fucks up the plot, details like the origin story for Revenants needing to be explained and the Wraith dimension being consumed by Hell all rely on one version of the Hell dimension interfacing with one version of the UAC and Wraith Dimension. Multiple versions of our universe not existing and all 3 Doom storylines instead all being separate storylines doesn't fuck any of the plot and is the conclusion most people would reach independently.

Map01 was my favourite, made me reminiscent of hell revealed with the texturing and hard edges. Map03 ended too soon (SSG secret & possibly also the rocket secret are useless with pistol start). Map04 has a few skips: firstly the door and it's trap can be skipped by using the ledge, the revenants and mancubi can be ignored and the final switch can be pressed from behind the wall so essentially I only had to deal with 2 pain elementals and 2 barons.

>>3731735
It's stated in the game that Hell invades other dimensions, but every single one of them that is explicitly referred to is some sort of alien realm similar to Hell itself. It's stated in the game that Doomslayer fucks up hell. It's stated in the game that Hell goes to invade the Earth Dimension or whatever you want to call it. The part where it's the 64 Doomguy and Hell has invaded other versions of the Earth you're just pulling out of your ass, there's references to an attempted invasion of Earth a long time ago but they never suggest that it's an alternate version of Earth. It's just Earth, the one that exists in Doom 2016's self contained universe, a long time ago. There's lore suggesting Doomguy comes from Earth a long time ago. If you aren't trying to read Multiverses into everything then this is just the normal Earth, not a Multiverse earth. As with every other element of the plot that has had Multiverses needlessly thrust into it to support the theory, there's no need whatsoever to insert a Multiverse to explain it because that would just make things needlessly complicated.

just to let you know before you try bum-rushing a cyberdemon, the actual max damage of the BFG is closer to ~3.5k than ~5k (theoretical max is ~4k so not sure where he got ~5k from) and hence you won't be able to kill the cyberdemon in one hit
>>3732362
>(theoretical max is ~4k so not sure where he got ~5k from)
There are 40 traces, and each one does 1-8 random points of damage in a 16-iteration loop. Meaning each trace will do between 16 and 128 points of damage. 40 x 128 = 5120.
Theoretical (though impossible) max is ~5k.

I downloaded DoomKrakken's Monster Randomizer but only half or less of the monsters I encounter get randomized despite having like 50 variations of each kind of spawn.
Is there any way to make it so every monster I encounter is a new one? Or is there a better custom enemy randomizer like that?

Someone is currently working on a super-impressive mod that has the top-down camera and aiming system, and original HLM-style artwork.
Someone else is working on a first person mod where you take more than one hit, and it's not really like Hotline Miami at all but claims to be.
One of these is by the Swan Fox dude. Can you guess which?

The devs clearly state the story was pretty much ignored till the end. New Doom pretty much threw away the idea of a surprise invasion and instead turned UAC into a company that knew it was evil and didn't hide it.

>>3733057
Classic UAC and Black Mesa are pretty much one and the same, except the latter is so outdated they're still using fucking tape decks and don't even have the bleep-bloop computer consoles like the UAC.
>>3733071
https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/megawads/
>>3733072
I don't recall classic UAC marines going in to slaughter a science team, though.
>>3733089
That wasn't Black Mesa, that was the military who had orders to kill all survivors- be that scientists or the Black Mesa security guards alike- to cover it all up. Then the military fucked that up anyway so the feds sent in the Black Ops to kill everyone else and then nuke the place.
>>3733072
black mesa was fully aware of whats up tho, resonance cascade was deliberate
>>3733098
it was deliberate only so far as they meant to put the crystal in, it only happened because of the sample the G-man gave them and how it was slightly outside the specifications they had anticipated
you can hear scientists discussing how it's "slightly outside the range of... no, it's perfectly safe" and then going on with the experiment that doomed humanity anyway, further pointing out the entire facility's incompetence (because the constant hazardous spills, less than perfect AI security system, and microwave casseroles weren't enough)
Are there any maps that take place in a swamp/plantation house setting?
>>3733107
that is true, even if casserole was human error (totally not intended)
its also quite funny when you think of black mesa as any other government funded institution, building new on top of old infrastructure while also reusing as much of old as possible, low funds making people ignore various technical and structural issues.
>>3733113
Now wait, How many infastructures was BM built upon?
>>3733120
shitload apparently, the lower you go the older it gets, sorta like aperture, except less obvious
>>3733113
Aperture science just rebuilt their base literally over their old infrastructure... I was hoping to see more of them in HL3. Shame that's probably never happening now.
>>3733125
So you're saying that another company may of been there before BM?
>>3733138
no, I mean that lower, older levels of black mesa get shafted while newer got more high tech stuff and funding
>>3733078
Any that you would recommend though?
>>3733125
I don't remember this; it seemed like it was more a matter of the whole facility is built to outdated technology and standards, not that there was anything there before. You also never really go lower, just around- if you link up every map in HL1 end-to-end at the loading points excluding Xen, they make a full path through the facility with almost zero overlap.

>>3733806
It's mostly because of the mod's incredibly vocal and obnoxious fanbase that don't shut up about how Brutal Doom is the only way to play Doom and it should be compatible with every mod.
Brutal Doom is a fine gameplay mod to play the game with for a bit, but the people that ONLY play with it are the problem.
>>3733806
Half of it is bandwagoning due to Sergeant Mark IV being a edgy fucker, The other half is purists hating it for fucking up the doom formula,

1) Get rid of the Shotgun
> the SSG is good enough
2) Get rid of the Chaingun
> the machinegun is nice enough as is
3) Make all top tier weapons exchangeable
> choose between hyperblaster, rocket, or railgun
> you drop weapon and all ammo associated with it to switch
> its too much overkill to have more than one of these weapons, and would inspire even more replayability
> be a bastard and say the BFG is exchangeable too, but its not so bad since the SSG is still really good
4) Give stroggs inaccuracy but make them hurt you more, as per the following...
5) Generally speaking you know how the strogg grenades and rockets do like 40 or 50 damage . . . make them do full player damage but give the player a 50% DR against them. That way they can also seriously blow the hell out of each other when they miss or infight too.
6) and maybe apply that to DM matches to make players try harder to kill each other since their weapons only do half damage and this makes rocket jumps easy as pi

>>3734307
Not exactly
I went another road with it, I hate the traditional doom skull so I got rid of it.
Pain Elementals spit out a "green clay" version of the Imp with alot of health (half damage from shotguns too).
> creates a little blue teleporter effect to suggest it opened its mouth and literally teleported or enchanted the Clay Imp into existence.
> now you have a massive horde of imps throwing fireballs, which makes up for them not actually flying
> and its kinda cool because on a failed spawn they go to Xdeath and make this sickening sound from the Ettins in hexen, like it literally barfed a bunch of green crap all over you
When you kill the Pain Elemental it does spawn these nasty skulls that have a low damage Archvile fire attack.
> but if you get close to them they shoot a mancubus fireball at you
> but if you get close to the Pain Elemental it might also shoot a mancubus fireball at you at point blank range.
Both of these get very dangerous even though they are deceptively not so. You would think skulls would be harder because of the charge move, but the imps are like a slow moving but deadly dreadnought.

its just a little something I cooked up myself, though I borrowed from other things (personal mod, didnt expect to share it but might be able to eventually).
Part of difficulty in sharing it was I made a custom palette, turned all the existing textures and vanilla gfx into native PNGs so zdoom would remap their colors in realtime (so to share, id either have to convert my stuff to BTSX pal since thats closest, or include the wads that have had their gfx converted).
> pic is the explosion from the cyber meteor, I made it spawn a bunch of smaller explosion things, gave it a radius quake, and the roaring explosion from duke3d - it feels like you narrowly averted an airstrike.
Someone said Cyberdemon laser and that reminded me of an idea I had recently...
Ill take the Dark Archon floating green cyber thing and have this as a translucent roaming hunter killer that the Cyber xeroxes off as holographic copies of itself (im thinking double fisted bruiser fireballs here, its not all that special but it gets up in your face and it flies around so thats dangerous)
> also when there's up to 21 of them
> because he just periodically just stops and cooks off another copy, but ill be nice and make it so if you put him in pain it breaks his combo
> the ultimate copypasta shitposter
Or like make the Cyber some stationary critter like a statue with the buddha flag (maybe even a statue of commander keen). Who spawns Cybers that walk around, and you have to destroy a certain number to either kill the statue or make the statue turn into the Real Cyber.

Xaser gathered together some old maps from pre-release versions and console-exclusive maps, finished/improved them, then gave them all a weird surrealistic art pass because he was super into Marathon Infinity at the time.
I'm trying out Doom mapping and am stuck on how to go about doing this in the most efficient way possible.
Is it generally a good idea to map out the entire level first using basic sector shapes and minimal textures, enemies, etc, and then add in the detail later?
Or would it be better to do each section in full detail as you're mapping?
>>3734630
You can do it either way. Probably best to start out with option A though.
>>3734630
Option A is the "right" way to do it - get the gameplay down before doing an art pass - and is used in the development of most actual-ass videogames nowadays.
Option B may better hold your attention, though, as it's easier to see the results of your hard work - if harder to adjust after the fact - if it all looks nice immediately.
YMMV.

Indieshit is "retro" done by people who do not understand retro. Like those cheap shooters that claim to be "doom-like" while being Wolf-like. Some of them dont even have enemy rotations.

Well in that case the player has so much ammo between other weapons anyways and shells are plentiful...
Why not just give them the chaingun only, keep the fire rate low, and make it do angry hornets level of damage like the Half Life 2 guns.

Im saying in terms of 1997 level of "Fix this shit at the drawing board"
The shotgun isnt satisfying to use and as a single shot drum fed weapon it shouldnt even be pump action.
And I do not find the chaingun satisfying (its annoying actually). Maybe if it fired slower like the ut2K4 minigun or the doom3 chaingun...
