Russians loved videogames and toys with themes about the army
>>
In the BBC documentary "Tetris - From Russia with Love" the Russian government employee who represented ELORG talked about how games from the US in the 80s were all about death and destruction and Tetris represented a more Russian sensibility of construction and problem solving.

What a goddamn liar.
>>
Russia really had a fucked up videogame industry, specially in the 90's. I mean how fucked up can be lie to the entire country that famiclones are brand new official consoles.

You can play recreations of some of these here:

Scroll down, select game, when it loads push the red button. Do not select English language, it has fewer choices.

15kop stands for 15 kopeek - cost of play on one arcade. Finding a 15 kopeek coin in the street triggered instant happiness.

I'm from Poland, nobody here heard of Famicom until 2000s when everyone could read about it on the internet. Instead we had Pegasus system - a really well made famiclone that played all kinds of carts. Everyone thought it was legit stuff because nobody knew it was ripoff. Also, guy who made them famous made millions on them. Yes, it was legal to sell ripoff consoles and pirated games here in early 90s.

Okay, I know everyone can get touchy when some try to push the line about what is retro, but, come on, Russia was awfully behind during the 90s! We should be okay with any Soviet arcade machines made with 90s level technology, even from the 21st century. Damnit, we need to see a Sukhoi arcade machine!

No, it is railway switchman simulator. Seriously. There is a toy railroad on that board with several railway switches. if you didnt know, in the third world, many times the owners built cabinets with consoles, and for example a game, lets see Sonic 2. Then, when you put a coin into the cabinet, the game starts, but it allows you to play for like 5-10mins. (theres no time indicator whatsoever) When the time runs out, the controls stop responding and the only way to recover control is to put another coin. When i was a kid, i played a lot of games like this: Sonic 2, DBZ Butoden 3, tony hawk's pro skater 2, etc.
>>

nah, ours was "play until game over" type. I guess our arcade was one of the better ones.

It was the soviet's declared goal for the eastern block to completely self suficcient economically.
It was also their declared goal to support violent communist revolution world wide.

Cooperation was never on the table, for either side.
>>
>>3535738
I'd say like American cartoons up until 1994
>>
Growing up in late 90s early 00s russia i don't remember any arcade centers, i remember these soviet machines but they were in random places or family entertainment centers, some western machines too, but sadly those were mostly shooters like terminator 2.
>>3531183
computer clubs were a lot more popular, but your post made me remember about console clubs, basicly you would pay to play on a console for an hour, but it wasn't automated like you are describing, so you could sometimes play a little extra. They had dreamcast, mega drive, ps1, mostly kids visited these while adult prefered computer clubs(i'm not calling them internet clubs, becouse these got internet pretty late and you had to pay a shitton to use internet), by early 00s console clubs died and kids had to play counter-strike with adults instead of Spyro and Crash.

Actually, I haven't seen a lot of arcades outside of conventions and other events. I played some Soviet arcade games in the 90s, the small amusement park that had them looked like the one on Pripyat photos — just a working one — and wasn't the most popular place in the city. In 2000s, those ex-Soviet parks lost all of momentum, dilapidated, and were left to rust. Now that place is a parking for some posh renovated cultural center. There were a couple of new arcades where Japanese arcades with big ass screens, full size car and bike simulators, etc. were installed, but they were expensive, and by the time economy would allow more people to visit them, computer clubs had already won. Retro addiction of modern time pop culture hasn't brought them back.
