SM is shit, it might even be worse than BW. This season is almost entirely filler and it's horrible, and the fact that people defend this amazing to me. The anime has always been for kids, but it has never been more apparent than now

Serena and amourshipping are shit. Serena is a bland character that is only there to be a waifu., give me a personality trait of hers that isn't "kind" or "caring". Also, a question for those of you who jack off to her cutting her hair. How did her character change from that? Not her appearance, her character. I still can't quite wrap my head around the fact that people find this series uninteresting, is it just that they can't accept the new art style? This is the most interesting the franchise has ever been, and I've seen most of the previous series.

The characters and their interactions with each other are fun to watch. The animation as whole is vivid, the characters' faces are expressive and the action/fighting scenes are energetic.

The animation in general is better than in any previous series (okay, XY&Z is maybe on par).

As the Sun & Moon games don't have the gym system, the anime doesn't have it either. I feel like this was a good thing to happen to the anime; I can see how they are now focusing more on the slice-of-life-y side of the series, and it's entertaining to watch imo. Of course, there are the occassional fights with the island kahunas and whatnot, so Ash is still advancing as a trainer.

The show doesn't anymore feel like an endless filler just to see Ash defeated in the league – the "filler" IS the series now. And it's well-executed. Of the 30+ episodes I've seen, I think maybe one of them was actually boring (the one with Sandygast, iirc).

On a sidenote, I'm kinda wondering if they will even adapt the part where the league is built on the island, Kukui being the "champion". If it does happen, I feel like it would be a good opportunity to make Ash actually win this "final fight" and become the first actual champion of Alola. Then someone should come and kick Ash's butt and take the title.

Misty gets to come back after 12 years. She's referenced in every series besides XY after she left. She and Brock have the "nostalgia of the original trio," etc.

None of the other companions will ever get this treatment. May and Dawn are all but forgotten, and eventually after a few years Serena will get so old that her ship with Ash will just be in the past too. Feels bad, man.

The major problems people have with the series is that it feels dull and aimless in general, the battles are poorly written and way too infrequent, the cast is way too big to be able to give any characters proper focus, and that a lot of the comedy consists of really forced "someone makes a wacky reaction face" gag. People do praise it for the things it's done right - the Nyabby arc was very well received, Lychee was considered a good and very likable character, and the Rocket trio is generally considered to be pretty funny. But the show as a whole is very very flawed and there are very real reasons why people are giving up on it as it continues on, and why these threads are so slow and lacking in discussion compared to the XY era.
