Ive figured out how it works. If you give it to a Pokemon, its useless. However, keeping it in your bag acts like the Gen 6+ Exp. Share, despite not being a key item.

Narrowed down my options for replacing Roserade

Amoonguss: Siebold counter, shares same typing but makes it so half my team is weak to Malva

Flabebe: Counter for Siebold and a decently safe switch-in for Malva, but if there aren't anymore Shiny Stones in XY then it's worthless

Poliwhirl: Solves the Malva problem but leaves me open to get fucked by Siebold

Decided to make a special layout for this nuzlocke. This is a ruleset I think will be interesting, and should hopefully be a unique experience. Rules are that each Pokemon I catch vote either communist or capitalist. You can only switch between Pokemon of the same party (communist can only switch with communist, etc.) I take a vote from the team after every gym, and then whichever wins determines the rules of the next section of the game. Communism gets you free healthcare and Exp Share usage, but a strict level limit and no shop usage. Capitalism allows you to overlevel a bit and buy items, but Pokemon Centers charge, there's a small tax on bought items, and the Exp Share must be off. Thoughts?

So before I fought Brawly, I fished in Dewford and caught a level 34 Clawncher. Caught it and boxed it because it's too high of a level.

Got the gym badge with no casualties, headed to Slateport.

Dealt with all the trainers on the beach and Team Aqua no problem. After that I encountered a Chespin at level 17 on the following route. Boxed Petilil and replaced her with Chespin, no Quilladin.

Now I made it to Mauville. About to grind Gawain and face the gym.

Wow, good for you. Beldums a 5%. Earlier I remembered another another tip. Even though its cheating, use save states at the seventh gym. There is a very common glitch that makes the game freeze when certain Pokemon come out.

Pokémon League conquered. Dragon Dance Gyarados was the exact thing I needed to completely fuck Lance.

I really have no motivation to do Kanto, though. I just haven't been enjoying this Nuzlocke. Dull encounters for the longest time, so much tedious grinding on wild Pokémon because of the lack of consistent trainer rebattles or anything Audino-tier. I kind of just want to move on to my White 2 Challenge Mode.

I hope no one will fault me if I decide to end this Locke here, at my first championship. I'll leave everyone on the cart for now, in case I decide to come back to do Kanto later.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna take a break from SoulSilver for now. I've now completed a League in every region in at least one Nuzlocke, and that's really what I set out to do. Time to move on to doing a challenge I've been super wanting to do.

I'm being a bit easier on myself here, since we're on Challenge Mode; allowing Gifts and Interractible Pokémon. Besides that, still Set, still no items, still a level cap, and yes, Challenge Mode. My naming thing is "things that are sharp." Trainer's name is "Sharps," and I named Hugh "Dulls."

Gentle nature ain't great, having lower Defense for the first gym is scary as fuck. But, Kunai the Oshawott managed to defeat that level 6 Snivy, despite having a poor defensive nature. Only 1 HP left, too, so I'm going to hope that's a good sign.

For the record, I wouldn't have restarted if he lost. I don't start the rules until I have Pokéballs. And, now, I do. I'll start doing this properly later tonight.

I would highly recommend you level up to the gym leaders' ace at the very least at the start of the game

BW2 are notoriously terrible in their early game pokemon distribution: you are guaranteed 1 shitmon (first route only has patrat or purrloin) and all 3 of the early shitmon have high spawn rates in the 3 captures you get before gym 1
because in this gen the bird is also a shitmon.

at least you're lucky you don't start in summer, summer gives you a very high chance of getting sunkern as your second capture which is basically "start over bitch"

well I don't know Challenge Mode, but I do know that in my successful White Nuzlocke, my Watchog was one of my team's aces up until after Clay. It has great Attack for early game, and that early access to Crunch is not to be underestimated. I'm kind of hoping for a Patrat.

Team update for Nacrene City. Both on Route 3 and it's cave I killed my encounters (one via Camomile double-slapping hitting more than expected and the other a critical Flame Charge from Earl Grey). This run is surpisingly basic, since I don't have any irregular Pokemon than Zigzagoon, which I only have for Cut.

I'm going to grind and then make an actual template so I don't have to take screenshots.

Good luck. I've never ran Challenge mode (mostly because I have no fucking way of playing it, thanks Gamfreak) but grinding for the first gym is awful regardless.

Honestly I don't think BW2 has a particularly fun start compared to BW1, BW1's areas were more fun and scaled naturally rather than the back and forth of early BW2, plus Pokestar's obnoxious pace breaker.

So shortly after beating Corrina's Lucarios in my xy wedlocke, two of my Pokémon die on the next route. I was also grinding beforehand for 3-4 hours and I hit another small level spike. Fuck the wedlocke. I do not know xy well enough and I've been getting dicked by the simplest shit.
I'm just going to restart and do a regular nuzlocke.

I'm going to Mt. Coronet and the Distortion World next in my Platinum Nuzlocke, but I'm going to take an HM Slave with me. I'm having trouble who to leave.

I have Ampharos, Grumpig, Lucario, Kingdra, Lapras and Scyther. Who should I replace temporarily?

What's an easy rom hack to nuzlocke? Preferably gen 3

Is there any downside from keeping a pokemon from evolving? Like, if i evolve a Pokémon at lv 20, will it have the same stats at lv 30 as it would if i evolved it at lv 29?

Yes. The main reason to evolve later is to learn moves earlier, or at all for most stone evos, or moves only the pre-evo gets (like Treecko's level 21 Giga Drain in ORAS), or for the boosted exp gain in gens 6 and 7.

if I may make a suggestion: in virbank do not try to catch something in the patch of grass outside of the virbank complex
it's still part of the complex area so it'll count as your capture and it's encounters are vastly worse

inside you have a good chance at growlithe or magnemite, the latter being almost invaluable against the second gym

outside their encounters are replaced with magby and elekid and the items to evolve them are only available after the 8th gym

Yeah, this is going to be a tedious grind. Can't wait to unlock Audino.

Gives me time to plot my gym strategy, though. I'm eyeballing three main aspects here. First, Thumb Tack has Big Pecks, which could be handy to prevent Leers if the AI goes a little dumb in my favor. Besides that, Kunai has Focus Energy for those luck crits, and Claw has Sand Attack for those luck misses. I think that between all this, I can definitely win. The question is, who can make it out alive.

And so ends my crystal journey. Not much to say that i haven't said about gold and silver - it's a very similar game, just with different wild Pokémon. It only took me 2 tries though, and with minimal losses at that. I only lost 2 pokes, the biggest loss being Katana the Meganium to Clair's Kingdra, who was replaced by "Atk Choppa" the Jumpluff. Otherwise the team has basically stayed the same, with the MVP's being "Air Drop" the Mantine and Gravitygun the Hypno (Who basically took on E4 Lance on his own). Next up is Gen 3! It's gonna be good to finally see something else than ratatas.

An unfortunate Critical Hit lead to poor Thumb Tack dying to Cheren's Pidove. But, besides that, I have managed to secure my first gym badge. Despite allowing myself items this time, I didn't even end up using any. I may have been able to save Thumb Tack had I decided to, but that's my own fault for both wanting to see if I could do without, and for not anticipating a potential crit. Crobat actually has better STAB moves on the special side (air slash and sludge bomb vs wing attack/fly and cross poison) and its special attack isn't that much lower than its attack. You'll be fine.

Moving on ezpz from Brawly with Redhead clearing the whole place on his own. Also caught an Aron holy shit. Was lucky enough to get to the dark part of the cave with no encounters where he appeared. Thinking of cutting Barkington from the team though - i already have a dark type, and he's not exactly pulling his own weight. Onwards to the beach from hell!

X and Y have the most potential encounters per route. As such, some people will get nothing but good shit, some people will get all shitmons, and everywhere in between. More so than any other pair, rng in encounters can make or break a run.

X and Y are simultaneously the easiest and hardest games.

Getting some nice catches so far. That's all I've got until the next gym, but I think I can make these guys work against Burgh. Kunai and Durian can work together to take out the Dwebble, Syringe and Fang for the remaining three Pokémon, and Thorn and PowerDrill joining along to suckle from the Experience Share and do some leveling.

I like my backups, too, which is nice. Claw and Sawblade both have excellent natures and abilities, and I would be happy to add them back in should tragedy strike.

Repels change nothing about how challenging the game is. They just save you from the frequent annoyance of having to sit through the encounter animation and press 3 buttons to run away from a zubat every 10 steps.

Dupe clauses actively make the game easier to beat because they let you reset grind for better mons, which defeats the point of the challenge.

I guess i don't, i was just under the impression that iron defense was too good to be passed up, especially because of aron's unfortunate typing. I think i'll forget mudslap since it's only 20 power and even with soft sand it's still worse than headbutt on a normally effective opponent. It's good against rock and steel, but again, my team already has those covered with grass and fire. I'll relearn it again if i regret it later.

Whelp, Aron died. A magnemite prevented him from switching out and proceeded to lower his special defenses so much he died to a single thundershock hit. At least i caught marril to counter future numels... Meltaway the gulpin will replace chromo, but will probably be replaced as soon as i find a ground or electric type. Wattson is next. Can probably deal with most of what he has with hot chicks double kicks.
