What was the point of using a new Mewtwo in that new movie? What was wrong with old Mewtwo?

Apparently it was too much of a stretch for old Mewtwo to suddenly gain the ability to switch to a different form, but it was perfectly logical that there would be another Mewtwo that was completely identical to the first one, differing only in its "voice", who WAS able to transform through some magic. And that's not even getting into how M16 Mewtwo completely throws every explanation of Mega Evolution mechanics out of the window.
I didn't really like that movie.
