I thought it was just okay, what kind of bothered me is how Gladion was completely ambivalent(unless I missed something) to his Lycanroc suddenly leaving, in the end we didn't see them being reunited again and so it's possible he doesn't know about Ash's Lycanroc forme.

A competent trainer doesn't let his Pokemon to fight by themselves and don't abuse of OH finishers. Ash even doesn't have a first impression of gym leaders like he had in XY.
