Depends, some Pokemon you want a small army of, for example I like my army of machamps for ttar and blissey killing. By army I mean 3-4, max 6. Such pokes are rare, for most you just keep the best one you have.

That being said, save your stardust till you're level 30 and have pokes with good ivs. Stardust is a major pain to grind.

It was actually quite funny, I remember using gameshark to choose what mons I would encounter. Then I would jump all the way through walls and mountains to the shiny gyarados, catch the chosen mon and trade to my oficial cartridge. Got all my favorites this way.

So I learned about a 4 hour unwritten rule about taking gyms today

>wake up, take gym at the park next to where I live
>walk around town, come back, person I took it from owns it again
>take it back
>She takes it again
>take this as an opportunity to level up the gym badge for more loot per spin
>waiting for her to take gym back, instead I see a an Asian lady walk up to a guy sitting at a bench 20 feet away from me and start yelling at him about the gym
>feel bad for the guy so I speak up
>She lectures me about common courtesy about waiting at least 4 hours to retake a gym
>tell her I'm in it for the gym badges

I live in a small town. 5 gyms when the game 1st came out yeah everyone would just battle. But as the game died down and gym mechanics changed now the town is divided into sides that will stay stagnant until someone clears out a gym after a day one group waits a bit so they can get coins and retakes gym. The only time this has changed is when a daycare thing opened up during those hours gym changes a lot cause kids being kids so whatever after those hours gym acts just like it did with people taking turns. It is honestly kind of weird the two towns over I play in always change gyms ours did back when people came here just to battle. One of my rivals was from a town 20 min away and they'd drive 20 min just to take a gym back from me that I live 2 min from lmao. They finally quit playing and peace has ensued. Dude was a flight medic for life light caught Pokémon in downtime guess he got bored.
