Earlier I passed a gym that another Instinct player just took over, because he was attacking that gym just a minute before, the game for whatever reason still felt it was under attack and I had to wait 10 minutes.

I live in a pretty small town (20k) but the GO community is fairly tight-knit. We have a messaging app that we use to communicate raid info to one another. Unless it's at, like, 8:00 a.m., pretty much every 4 diff raid has at least 6+ people. Like many places, our town is overwhelmed by a single team (Mystic, here). I'm mystic myself and I can see that, with the new gym system, it's a problem for everyone. Valor and Instinct don't want to knock down our gyms because they rarely get more than an hour before they are reclaimed by blue, so it's not worth their time. So Mystic people have mons in gyms for days and days, sometimes not getting any coins in a day. I was thinking of proposing an agreement to them. The group that uses the app doesn't represent ALL active players but I think that it includes most of them. What do you guys think of the following "rules"/guidelines'whatever:
1) Do not take down an enemy gym unless at least half (round up) of the defenders have been there for at least 8 hours, 20 min. This is the most important provision for Mystic players to follow.
2) If you want to, you can kick out just the first 1-2 defenders, if they have been in long enough (to give their owners coins) instead of taking down the whole gym.
3) No Blisseys or Snorlaxes as defenders. They just waste attackers' time. And you WANT attackers to take down your defenders without frustration. Instead, stack gyms with any "rare" pokemon you may have (e.g. porygon2, miltank, unown).

If you live on a Pokestop it negates the point of a lure as you can get items easily and Pokemon will spawn nearby the Pokestop most the time.

Events might somewhat justify a lure, but only if it lasted over an hour or so and if you were willing to sit still an hour. Even then the amount of Pokemon, Pokestops, Gyms and Egg hatching you miss while sitting still is not worth it.

Evolve then power up. Always. You can waste tons of stardust powering up before evolving by getting cucked by a bad moveset. Not as big a deal now that TMs are a thing, but it always helps to conserve resources.

I used to live on two in chicago from launch till june.

Last summer/fall i used lurebots for free ones (bot an account to 25-30, sign in and use their lures)

During valentines day events with 6 hour lures they were awesome. Wake up on Saturday morning, watch tv and catch mons with my gf from couch. During the ice event i made 1.5mil xp at a cost of 20 bucks and had lucky eggs on. The double xp event before that helped too.

Now I'm living in nyc and no longer always have 2-300 ultras. I used to use only great balls when living in downtown Chicago

While i lost the grimer biome i helped set up, i fortunately just found a grimer FSP near my apt so it's okay

legendaries will be fun for a bit mattering to how available they are, most likely just tough to catch raid bosses so I imagine they will get people interested again for a week or two before some discouragement and shallowness of being only a few pokemon sets in again for normies.

gen 3 will do exactly what gen 2 did, people will open the game play for a few weeks then stop. it will give the rest of us new stuff to catch for a while but will ultimately not fix the game at all.

Not particularly. You can if you want but there is no real benefit to hording them as they'll likely re-release the Ash Hat Pikachu's in a year or so or when we get the Gen 2 Legendaries or the Gen 3 Legendaries.

Maybe save a couple, get a few Ash Hat Pichu's and try to limit the ones you catch to those with good IV's.
