Good morning nuzgen welcome to your morning thread since this dies overnight because apparently /nzg/ is the only thread that sleeps.

Discuss nuzlocke, post teams, discuss alt rules, brag about aces.

It might have, I don't know. We'll just keep going. This weekend is my first weekend off and I binge drinking with friends and playing Pokemon, so I'll try to keep it alive. No more of this squeezing in 10 mins of gameplay during my break shit.

I've been missing the action itself, but I saw the aftermath this morning at least. From what I can gather, someone's been raiding /vp/ at about 1:00 PST, 4:00 EST the past couple nights, pushing every thread into Archive by posting lots of furry porn, or something of the sort.
>>
>>32932785
I only witnessed it the first time it happened but I guess it's happening daily (for now)

I saw some salazzle porn last nite, i did not know it was being posted on every thread.

Well update, pekepik die in a duo battle against raising star duo rufflet and vullaby in route 5

it was my best bro so far well this is the team after Lana's trial.

I keep checking the thread before bed and it's fine, wake up and it's gone. Don't know what's up with it lately.

Anyways, haven't played my SoulSilver yet since I just got Crash Remastered and have been playing that. Plan on playing some tonight though.

Guy from last night bitching about critical hits, managed to finally get a Pidgey to a decent enough place where it wasn't OHKO'd by a level 5 crit Tackle. I've been doing a Nuzlocke variant where I ditch starter after first catch, and then flip a coin to see if I can catch anything on a new route, because I always end up with a ton of shit in the box anyway that ends up too weak to use by the time a slot opens up. Nothing's died so far but I've only had 2 catches because I got tails in Viridian Forest and Route 2, but just beat Brock so we'll see if I get lucky in Mt. Moon.
>>
>>32933570
I had the same kind of idea, but instead of flipping for captures, I'd flip whether a death countes or not
>>
>>32933581
Man, I really should have done that for any death by crit, but I don't want to "cheat". I've mainly just been trying to find a way to play that gives me more diversity than what I'd normally use given free choice, which is why I ditched starter.

Is there anywhere where you can catch non-water types past Lilycove? There's Victory Road, Cave of Origin, Shoal Cave (I want a Spheal), and Sky Pillar... am I missing anything?

>>32933570
The thing about nuzlocking is if you're at low health against a level 5 Pidgey and you know a crit's gonna kill you there's no shame in running away. Playing defensively can be really nice. Also, that's an interesting way to play - I had a weird gimmick once where I'd only evolve something/catch the first thing I find after beating a gym leader. Gymlocke? Might try that again sometime.
>>
>>32933694
Yeah I run a lot and grind more than I should, it was really just doing battles against like level 3 Pidgeys that could kill me in 2 shots if the second one crit. 2 runs in a row I'd Tackle, then they'd Tackle, then I'd Tackle but miss, and then they'd Tackle, crit, and I'd be dead. Only way around that would be to run as soon as I get hit once, but then grinding early would be an even bigger bitch.

>>32933570
Update: Caught Vladimir the Zubat in Mt.Moon, Route 3 was a Mankey and I'm not doing dupes clause or anything so treated it as losing the flip.

AND I wiped to Rival on Nugget Bridge. Got down to his final Pokemon (Charmander) doing roughly 20HP of damage on all 3 of my level 17 Pokemon. Burns Mankey, switch to Pidgey, Super Potion to full health and get hit by a crit, KO'd. Switch to Zubat, Potion, get hit with Crit Ember TWICE IN A ROW, then switch to Mankey and wipe because no Burn Heal and run was dead as soon as 2/3rds of the team went down.

>>32933935
Kinda agree with >>32933994. Gift Pokemon are just so much better than anything you'd reasonably get in the wild it kinda cheapens it, but do what you want because the overall goal is to have fun.

Update 5, Attack on Aether.jpg
520KB, 1280x1440px
Time for my daily update.

Damn Pursuiting Raticates cost me my Staryu, but my Bruxish has been doing a good job serving as replacement. Totem Vikavolt was a joke, Totem Mimikyu was a bit tricky, Guzma was laughable, and I greatly overestimated Nanu. With Ula'ula Island now completely cleared, I head off to Aether Paradise to begin the final segment of Act 2.

Current Level Cap: 48, until I defeat Hapu on Poni Island. I will be keeping the Exp. Share on throughout Aether Paradise, in order to catch up to the massive level jump on Poni.

On a final note: holy fuck Alola has a lot of encounters. Whoever was saying to split Route 1 into 3 parts must not have ever gotten very far in an Alola Nuzlocke. I'm glad I decided against Pinwheel Clause. Part of me wants more Pokémon to die just to balance out the layout.

Managed to beat Brock with the Rattata. Granted, it was Level 17, but I wanted it to have over 40 HP for a 2 Potion cushion since it only knows normal moves against 2 Rock types. Wasn't as bad as I thought probably overleveled but eh, it'll balance out when I catch something else.

Route 3 was a bust, Mt. Moon yielded Haniwa the Geodude, Beat Rival and Nugget Bridge and Bubonic Vermin evolved into Raticate, encounter for Route 24 was an Abra and I managed to luck out with first Pokeball at full health so now I have Maha Vailo the Abra. Going to be a bitch to evolve into Kadabra but well worth it.

Why do you have four Fire types on your team, yet you've boxed Sandile and Solrock?
>>
>>32935317
Eh, I didn't want to overlevel too hard, just enough so that I felt I had a fighting chance. It was actually piss easy between Tail Whips, Hyper Fangs and Potions. Geodude was honestly harder than Onix because Defense Curl, but I 2 shot both with Hyper Fang. Raticate also solo'd Misty, but that Starmie was a close call on crit Water Pulse. Surge was a pushover as per usual because of Geodude and I caught a Diglett in Diglett's cave for good measure. I'll post updated team when I hit Dark Cave.
>>
>>32935317
>>32935339
The team i posted was what I had last night, before I started grinding. Didn't mention that, oops. I'm definitely using Solrock for the gym; as for Sandile, it's weak to fighting so why the hell would I use it? I'm still leveling it though, because Krookodile is badass.

It did a bit, but I grinded to 41 HP because I figured it'd probably do <20 damage and I could have a 2 Potion Window, I also brought like 10 Potions to the fight, but only ended up using like 2 or 3. I just spammed Tail Whip until it was -6 and then 2 Hyper Fangs killed it.

>>32935356
Here's the updated team, I had a Diglett named Mine Mole but it got 1 shot by a Hiker's Geodude's magnitude. Not too mad because I'm not boxing anything so my team was full and it was a bit redundant, also Maha Valio covers my wet tissue defenses mon. Saggi is also a bit redundant but eh, Hypnosis is enough to warrant keeping it around, and it'd be stupid to pass up a Psychic type in a Gen 1 Nuzlocke. Got tails on Route 10 and Dark Cave, so no new mons until Lavender Town.

So if I have a Mudsdale out, and Ya Boi sends out his Masquerain, I'm justified in expecting a Hydro Pump, yes? And switching to Bruxish to take the Hydro Pump? It's perfectly understandable to not expect a Bug Buzz that kills my Bruxish?
>>
>>32935764
I'm pretty sure there's a Psychic AI mechanic that started in at least Gen 6 that predicts switches. I remember playing Rutile Ruby and Roxanne would always switch into a Storm Drain Lileep if you attempted a Water type attack, so I'm guessing the capability is at least in the game. I'm sorry for your loss though.

>>
>>32935764
It's Psychic AI bullshit. Harder trainers will "predict" switches (IE read your move). When playing SET, your best switches against these types of trainers are usually Pokemon that can just tank any of the attacks even if all they can do is wittle. The worst thing is the AI isn't even consistent in making the best possible moves because Lusamine can go full retard in both her fights for no reason.

But also don't underestimate the Masquerain. It got buffed just as hard as Dugtrio in terms of damage output, people just forget because it doesn't have Arena Trap.

Holy fuck, I've never been so mad at this game. It's obvious that there's nothing but Wingull/Tentacool through Surfing but I had no idea it was this fucking bad for fishing too. Every goddamn route it's either fucking Wailmer with its cheeky-ass fucking grin with the occasional chance of a Sharpedo or Wailord. This wouldn't be so bad if HALF OF THE FUCKING GAME wasn't water. Holy fuck, Water's the most common type in the fucking game and they really only have 3-5 separate lines through surfing AND fishing? Are you fucking kidding me? And they have shit like Staryu ONLY in Lilycove and Horsea on the fast-water routes with barely any fishing space? What is this godawful game design? Whose decision was this? Dupefags, I guess this must be pretty great for you, enjoy your guaranteed Staryu/Horsea/whatever.

Saggi the Drowzee. RIP Lv22 from Rocket's Kofing's Selfdestruct
Venom Boa RIP Lv21 from Biker's Grimer's Critical Hit Sludge (Fuck Minimize BTW)
And my first catch Bubonic V RIP Lv28 From Critical Hit Sludge, living with 5HP only to be Poisoned then immediately die at the end of the turn.

Maha Valio is still alive miraculously, and now I have Rescue Cat the Persian, F Cerebrus the Growlithe, and Birdface the Fearow, all at level 30. Bummed I got Tails on the Tower though, really wanted a Haunter but oh well. Here's hoping Cycling Road is more forgiving.

It doesn't. Gamefreak has never managed to actually make unique water routes that don't devolve into the same 3 Pokemon the entire game.

The more water Routes a game forces you through, the harder it is to ignore. It's obnoxious in RSE because the entire end game is water routes. It wasn't as bad in DPPT because you only need to go through two water routes midway and at the end of the game.
BW is probably the only mainline series where you ACTIVELY had to go on Water Routes or even find water Routes.
XY tried as well but you basically had inland water Pokemon and ocean water Pokemon. It needed more depth.
SM returned to the fucking "hey what if we have 2 set water types on almost every route and then 1 special one"

Least to Most Obnoxious Water Routes in Pokemon

Kalos > Unova > Sinnoh > POWER GAP > Kanto = Johto > Alola > Hoenn

Turtwig : Tanky, gets Earthquake in the 30s, but will die to a single ice attack

Chimchar : Fast Attacker that can work in either stat, light on defense. If you're not playing Platinum this is your only choice besides Ponyta for a fire type.

Piplup, middle of the road until evolution in which it gets a tanky duo type and a decent SPATK

Starly : The single most useful regional bird ingame.

Bidoof. DO NOT SEND INTO BATTLE. This thing is your pocket knife to progress through the HM hell that is Sinnoh.

DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE TEAM GALACTIC ADMINS

Also you will encounter a Pokemon known as Bronzor and later Bronzong.
You will learn to DESPISE them.

The Bird gets Intimate upon evolving the first time. The 3rd form has two highly damaging moves.

Bronzor is a Steel/Psychic type.
It has TWO weaknesses. Fire and Ground.

It's ability will either nullify it's Fire Weakness or make it immune to Ground attacks. It is tanky as fuck gets Confuse Ray and the ability to boost it's Defense.

Last update for tonight, Erika was piss easy, I didn't get anything on Cycling Road, willingly skipped the Safari Zone, but I did get a Doduo west of Fuchsia and a Pidgeotto east of Fuchsia. The Pidgeotto was very short lived because of a Hypno in Koga's gym. Got Surf and Fly, needed a water type, skipped Route 25 because I never knew it was separate from Route 24. Saw a Poliwhirl fishing with Super Rod but OHKO'd it with a crit Cut. Then fished south of Fuchsia for a severely underleveled Horsea that's my surfer and hopefully soon to be designated Water type. Tackling Silph tomorrow, here's the team as of now.

Cheers. The pics are nothing special, anything beyond MSPaint is too much effort for a lazyboi like me. I always start getting low on space for the dead section in Platinum runs. Never tried a box section before either, so that'll probably get clogged soon.
I'll update at the end of each gym or if there's some kind of huge disaster.

Strange Nuzlock question? While plumbing the Glittering Cave in X, used Rock Smash and got an Old Amber before going on to the scientist who gave me the sail fossil (because I want to punish myself with the worst defensive type combination in the game).

So, question, since I got the old Amber first, do I have to revive the Aerodactyl, or can I actually chose which fossil I revive?

There's a couple more options for fire types, but a grand total of 4, including your starter and if you choose to evolve an eevee into flareon.
The rest is about the same. I'd disagree on the Bidoof front, when it evolves, it can be kinda decent, but you'll want to teach all your HMs to it still.

Fucking RIP my team. I was doing fine but then went down to the garden in front of the chateu and fought the double battle against the two furfrow or whatever they're called and they absolutely fucked my squad. I barely made it out with Beatrice and now i'm down to two mons (i boxed the gen 1 starter).

As of now it's just Beatrice and Birberus the doduo, hopefully I can catch something good in the death garden where I lost basically my entire team. Fuck those dogs, I want my pigeotto and azurill back.

So for monotype Nuzlockes, do you just hack your starter to be that type, and if you do:

A) How do you determine a "fair" starter? I presume no 1-stages, no pseudos?
B) What tool do you use?

Alright, that's what I thought. Thanks!
>>
>>32939772

I did a similar run in Blue. Basically could only use Normal and Flying initially, no Pokemon of any other type, until I unlocked the types at certain points. Mostly gyms, but like Bug at the end of Viridian Forest or Ice after clearing Seafoam Islands. It did lock me into Pidgey, Rattata, and then Butterfree once I beat Viridian Forest for a long ass time though - beating Brock didn't help because every Rock type that isn't late is Ground, and it was Giovanni that unlocked Ground. It also locked me out of the many Poison types until after Koga. Pretty interesting run, all things considered.

>>32942859
I like it because it forces me to play more carefully. That "bond with your pokemon" thing is usually a load of crap because you're more likely to only use common pokemon that you've already used before. I was lucky to find a Solrock which I friggin' love now. Despite being weak to most of the E4, I'm still bringing it because it fucks Drake up.

I've also come to respect interesting/unexpected sets from the game but shit like Night Slash spam or Selfdestruct are rage-inducing. There's the obvious solution of overgrinding your team so they don't even die to crits but you should aim to have a pretty good idea of what level your pokemon should be to have a fairly "even" fight (think of gym leaders as checkpoints). This makes playing a new game blind a little trickier sometimes but I think it's a lot more fun.

Also, romhacks are the devil. They're where the "non-stop grinding" mentality comes from.

Nuzlockes aren't mind blowing, they just make you take better care of your Pokemon since they're not allowed to faint. If your Starter dies at the 7th gym, after you put several hours into training it, making sure that it never fainted, having heart attacks as a crit makes its HP get too close to 0, you'd feel something. Either A. Anger because it was your fault, you did so well with that Pokemon until that moment, or B. Anger because of RNG, you couldn't have known a crit was coming, you weren't expecting a 1HKO.

It's like that.

>>32943151

Lost Racket to Totem Vikavolt and motherfucking Hustle Sucker Punch. Going to miss the guy, but his glass cannon style made him too weak. Kaepora took a bug bite and was left at 4hp.

Anyways, probably going to take in Grimer for Racket. Both against Fairies and Ghosts. I think he'd be vital against Totem Mimikyu. Either that or Scrappy Miltank.

Okay. Turns out Salamence had Crunch which means it hit every remaining member of my team for super effective damage (yes, even Kecleon). I thought Solrock lived too but I guess it got highrolled. I was hoping some Shedinja pivot shenanigans could save Gyarados but Dragon Claw just does way too much. I guess it's my fault for expecting a +1 Strength to do half. Damn.

grimer's great for any team and synergizes with yours well. if it's at least kinda close to evolving i'd take it over miltank. alternatively, komala's not a bad option either if you need a status absorber.

WE DID IT BOYS

Shedinja walled Wailord and Whiscash. Crobat handled Tentacruel decently and Aerial Aced the fuck out of Double Team Ludicolo. Kecleon handled Milotic. Gyarados... was luckily walled by Shedinja too. I was willing to sack Shedinja if it had Crunch or something and possibly try to Toxic + Haze stall with Crobat. Wallace's AI was also surprisingly keen on not switching out from Shedinja and doing weird stuff like Amnesia with Whiscash when I was scouting with switches which helped.

Would allowing for a legendary disrupt the balance that badly? It seemed like the closest Pokemon equivalent to the role queens play in chess. I don't personally use legendaries during a normal play-through and I've never actually committed to a complete Nuzlocke.

What if players were not allowed to heal the legendary so it had to be used sparingly/was almost guaranteed to only be a temporary party member?
>>
>>32947141
That's the problem, the legendary is not limited in any sense while the king has all sort of stupid arbitrary limitations.

Would make it much more sense as a challenge to limit the legendaries and give more freedom for one of the useless pawns instead of the opposite

i mean the fucking legendaries can be anything, ignore capturing rules, mega evolve, use z-moves, learn any move.... why even fucking bother playing the game after that?

if you don't limit your number of captures/pokeball in any sense it pretty much does

some of the games have a ridiculous number of routes and places to capture new team members. FRLG alone added more than 20 spots just with islands 1, 2 and 3 and Kanto was already pretty generous with its number of routes

Miscellaneous notes...

Crobat was such a trooper throughout the whole game. After my starter/Wingull died I grinded Zubat a lot hoping something good would come out of it - he quickly became my overleveled go-to guy. Evolved after avenging Azumarill's stupid death too. Become kind of underwhelming afterward but I'm so glad he didn't die. Something as common as Zubat really is this good.

Kecleon is wildly underrated. I think of it as Hoenn's Snorlax even though it's probably not nearly as good. Substitute/Screech are great utility.

Shedinja is delicious cheese. I didn't really use it for most of the game after dealing with Wattson because I was paranoid of random coverage moves that could fuck it up. I love gimmicks.

Mostly sad that Solrock couldn't take on Salamence like I planned. It pretty much did nothing against the E4 other than weaken Salamence a bit. It did so well mid-to-late game. I've also never used it before. Hmm, maybe I should've spammed Cosmic Power against Shelgon and hoped for no crits. Eh, it wouldnt've done much against Wallace regardless.

I think I'll do Platinum next.

>>32947052
All it really needs is Rock Slide/Tomb.
It's easy to think of Rampardos as a glass cannon but 97/60/50 really isn't the frailest thing ever. You don't really need to worry about speed, why not go bulk? Rock-types are also amazing in nuzlockes, period.

>>32947103
I agree with this. GF was careful to have stuff like Flamethrower/Thunderbolt/Ice Beam buyable so you could teach them to different stuff. Being forced to pick and choose (and risk losing it) makes nuzlockes more fun. Side-note: I miss being forced to carry around a few antidotes.

Gave up on the Firered Nuzlocke. I didn't wipe but it stopped being fun, I guess it's just the severely limited selection and how the difficulty is really meh after Sabrina. I also feel like I grinded too much and that should be toned down next time to more reasonable levels.
>>
I really wish there were a way of selectively randomizing games. Like, I'd want Route 1 to take from a pool of reasonable Pokemon, like Poliwag, Growlithe, Oddish, and shit. Not Mewtwo and Zapdos.

>>32947289

>>
>>32947360
I feel like FireRed is just piss easy overall and the amount of routes means you'll have plenty of replacements if you're not running any additional rules. Trainers and even Gym Leader movesets aren't exactly all that good either compared to say Platinum or Emerald.
>>
>>32947360
you don't ever have to grind in FRLG anyway. you made it harder on yourself
>>
>>32947383
Yeah, I added the rule that I had to flip a coin for every new route and on tails I'd skip the capture to try to compensate, but that'd probably work better on a harder game.

>>32947393
I did have to very early on because I had to beat Brock with just a Rattata because RNG. It's just hard to find a balance between being sturdy enough to survive BS crits and not so strong that it still poses a challenge. General consensus is that the proposed chess-themed Nuzlocke was too complicated, so I trimmed the rules a bit. Thoughts?

I've been working with my coworker to iron out the rules for what we call an Heirlocke.

>Release any Pokémon that faint
>Catch only the first Pokémon on each route
>The above rule is put on pause once you have 6 Pokémon, and resumes once one dies
>You may never have more than 6 Pokémon at a time, and all 6 must be in your party at all times
>When a Pokémon dies, go to a route you have not gotten an encounter on and catch the first thing you see, no dupes clause, no gift clause
>Give it the same name as the dead Pokémon, but with "II" after it. If the Pokémon already had a "II," give it "III," then "IV," then "V,", etc.

The basic idea being that, as your team dies, a new Pokémon takes up its mantle. Not going over 6 Pokémon, therefor having no backups, and no dupes clause, keeps you at the game's mercy at what you use.

>>32947741
>Are you forced to catch the first Pokémon on a route?

Do you mean, like, can you kill or ignore it? I don't see why not, that is in line with Nuzlocke rules. But you then miss your encounter on that route, and it's one less place you can get a replacement when someone kicks the bucket.

I might do a Blue Heirlock after I finish Moon, see how it works. It's still infantile and completely untested.

Going to bed but here's where I'm at. Starly at Lake Verity, Shinx on Route 202 (God Bless Intimidate), and Zubat at Rugged Pass. The rest were either Tails or dupes, headed towards Oreburgh now.

I had a previous attempt that got all tails all the way to Oreburgh mine where I finally got Heads on an Onix with only a Starly, constantly broke out of balls until crit Tackle+Bind ended the run.

Holy shit Juptier's Skunktank. It kept landing Critical Night Slashes one after the other.

Lekki lived with 5 HP.

And the fact that it Poisoned 3 of my 4 team members. Not enough Antidotes. But Rhen tanked the Night Slashes well enough to Growl then Bubblebeam for the victory. True MVP.

Goodnight everyone!

ah fuck it doing a cheesy FireRed Omega nuzlocke instead. i forget if shroomish beats brock but i'll probably play it safe and grind it more. both my water types are useless, i think.

It's pretty sad, but he'll learn Shadow Ball in 7 levels, then when I get to the game corner I can no-life it for Psychic+TBolt.
I have high hopes for my boy.

On an unrelated note; I'm genuinely debating whether or not to add "No Gyarados" to my rules. It's too easy to get and too dominant in-game. I think I saw others playing with the idea before, wondering if they went for it or have any more ideas regarding it?

Okay so the Poke'mart is selling Focus Sashes, does this mean I can get an out on random explosions or is using something like that kind of unfair in a Nuzlocke? also they don't disappear like legit forever do they? just not useful for the rest of the battle right?
>>

In competitive battles, they come back afterwards, but I think they do disappear forever if used in-game. There's a reason why they're being sold so cheaply there.

I just really don't feel like updating my layout. So much fucking work that I just don't wanna do right now. Note to self: easier layout next time. Here's an update anyway, though.

The late Aqua Madoor the Slowbro was replaced with Jellyfish the Tentacruel. Our other deceased friend Watapon was replaced with Bubblebowwow the Granbull. Tytannial the Lurantis was just starting to fall behind, so I replaced her with Tragoedia the Trevenant. Everyone was trained to 50, and then it was off to the Vast Poni Canyon. The path itself was very scary, Kommo-o was a bit tricky, and Lusamine was surprisingly easy. With Nebby killed once, I captured it with my Master Ball on my second go, and am off to Mount Lanakila to prepare for the Elite 4.

Team:
Tiger Axe the Incineroar
Swift Gaia the Mudsdale
Morphing Jar the Magnezone
Jellyfish the Tentacruel
Bubblebowwow the Granbull
Tragoedia the Trevenant

My final level cap is 58. I will get through the mountain to the Pokémon center at the top, train to 56, defeat Hau, train to 58, then head inside.

So, before fighting Surge, I went through Mt. Moon and opened up Saffron, to restock my team and get some levels in - by the time I finished the boat, the only Pokemon on my team not weak to electric was Bagoas. I was able to quickly head back to Celdaon, and Adhel and Birb made the gym a piece of cake. On a side note - I thought the whole "I used to hate this Pokemon, but getting it in a Nuzlocke made it grow on me" thing was just a meme, but I'm starting to not hate Voltorb.
>>
>>32950710
Taking pictures is fine but the reason for you to get the feature just to shove Hau in your face again and make sure you know how 'special' you are for getting that dex feels contrived, it should have just been a feature of the rotom dex with a minor explanation and a further tutorial if you went to one of the spots but that just goes deeper down a rabbit hole of too much handholding and reducing time actually playing the game for meaningless chatter with boring/bad characters. I really love the look, pokemon variety, and even the entire navigation of Alola but the people they force you into contact with and how often just takes me out of the game without ever letting me get into it.
I just caught a Grimer outside of the shop I got the camera at, right? Figured I should go to the pokemon center to fix him and my Trumbeak up, but that's not allowed because Lillie has to tell me she never bought clothes before by force instead of putting her inside of the shop looking like she's distressed, less in your face and much more topical to speak about clothes when you want to buy them yourself.
>>
>>32950749
I have high hopes for USUM fixing a lot of the issues with these games, best to take a deep breath and a break from time to time, Sun/Moon have a lot of problems.
>>
>>32950749
You're not wrong. The game just doesn't let go of your hand until almost the end. This is the 7th generation of the series, I doubt it's anybody's first rodeo there, we know what the fuck we're doing.
I mostly dislike how it stops you from exploring areas until you see story, even some areas you've already passed because they're worried that you're going to miss the story. Pokemon games aren't known for their story, that's just a cherry on top of a sundae of exploration and battling - Nice and shiny and somewhat tasty, but optional. Just let me get to the story in my own time, don't funnel me into the events.
I had a feeling of where it was going to go when it took 45 minutes to get my starter due to story bullshit, and a further close to two hours just to get to the first pokecenter, which is about 20 steps outside your house, for fuck's sake.
I suppose they figure you might miss the scene with Lillie if you never buy clothes, but they could just set her outside the shop looking nervous. The player will most likely go talk to her eventually anyway, no need to force the cutscene.
I kinda wish there was something you could do with the camera to integrate it more, like being able to battle the Pokemon you took a picture of sometimes, perhaps. Maybe some sort of flash for the camera that would attract the Pokemon's attention when you take the picture, and a few rare encounters you can only get through the camera.
On a lighter note, take good care of that Grimer. Alolan Muk is a beast.
>>
>>32950717
And, in the battle with Giovanni in Rocket HQ, Panzer was killed in one-hit by a critical Mega Punch. You will be missed.
>>
>>32950858
I'll take good care of him, he came with a Power Weight but I don't know if I want to leave it on him or dump HP Evs into something else, might just stick with what works and leave it be for now though.

I do have so many problems with the game and it's forced story that could be so easily remedied by putting the characters in places that fit their context. Hau being inside of Malasada shops after how many fucking times he tells you he loves them would be a perfect place for a little howdy-do and a catching up battle or something, not the middle of the fucking road when he and I can't even handle this "recognizes the sound of your feet"

Everything is so forced, contrived, and just plain badly written which just goes hand in hand with the absolutely awful character development as if there were any, even Lillie's big "development" is 95% tell and not show which means it doesnt fucking exist
I just don't know what to do with this man, the cutscenes are so long and tedious but the gameplay is fun and inviting, the region is beautiful and feels fresh, alolan forms actually add a little excitement to some of my old favorites. They just make it so hard to like the fucking games.
>>
>>32950485
why thank you, anon.

>>32950289
Decided to just fight Hau right away. Wasn't too hard. Elite 4 grinding will now commence.
>>
>>32950909
Yeah, inside or just outside of it would work fine there. How's he going to recognize the sound of our steps if we only just met him very recently, anyway?
Some of Lillie's character development happens onscreen, at least, but most of it does come out of left field.
It's almost like Gamefreak are good at making engaging games, but are awful at making stories and need to not force the player to play at their pace.
How is Nova Sun over vanilla Sun?
>>
>>32950974
Well it's harder and I like that, way way more pokemon variety and interesting catches so far. Trainers have more pokemon but it's slowly ramping up and not immediate, but no "skip cutscene" button.

I think the biggest problem that really put me off of Lillie so fast is her constant bitching about hating battles but always watching "for you". She should have just stormed off the first few times and slowly came to watch/enjoy your battles because she's your friend and learns the value and friendship that goes into battles. Not bitching about a character trait we never witness that she ignores.
And on that earlier comment, a "Skip Cutscene" button would magically improve the game so much that I'd probably love it again, easily skip tutorials I've played and cutscenes I thought were boring.
on a mildly related note, unskippable cutscenes are actually the reason i have so much trouble playing my actual favorite game of all time, FFX, it's just cheezy these days not to have that feature

We lost Aunt Irma in another training accident, crits are OP

I decided to get Dratini from the game corner instead of waiting and getting eevee. So far its been a good decision, hopefully dragon rage will make the Whitney fight easy
>>
>>32951005
That's good. Sounds like a good curve.
Having a character who dislikes battles is an interesting quirk, but it's not even handled well. Maybe trying to stop battles, or heal both teams after a battle, or something, if she's going to watch.
I'd support a skip cutscene button, but I'd probably never use it myself. But making the text and everything move faster in the cutscenes, or maybe just make them worth watching, would be a good idea. Maybe include it on a NG+ mode, or something, along with skipping over the tutorials.
