This is not the kind of getting along I expected.

Because they're specifically designed to appeal to different groups of people, or at least people with different tastes. GF wasn't trying to please the same audience when they designed mons like Incineroar and Primarina.
Because these people see the starter designed to their tastes as the best, they will fight for and defend them.
If we all just pick the one we like and acknowledge that the other choices appeal to others, maybe... Just maybe.... the starter wars will finally end...

Because deep down, they're too afraid to admit that their own X starter might be shit regarding any matter, so they start to either induce wars or act superior and claim they chose the best of the three.

Boxfags aren't too different, but it's more because they're too afraid of liking starter because starter fanbases are usually terrible and/or obnoxious and they'd prefer to not be associated with those.

The real winning move is to not discuss a set of starters at all until the generation they originate from comes to a close, because all the fags that stir up shit will have moved on to the next generation.
In this case, Gen 8 will be a perfectly fine time to discuss the Alolan Starters without accidentally beginning another starterwar thread.

I think the real conflict is between those who love the starters or hate them. I tend to like newer designs, and find that most older starter designs tend to have more masculine/bulky pokemon. Many masculine pokemon in newer games like Chesnaught/Samurott/Incineroar have aesthetic faces, whereas older masculine pokemon have ugly mugs.
