My good fortune returns! As my first capture on Melemele Island was a 5% Pichu, my first capture on Akala is a 5% Eevee! Male, Bold, Adaptability. No idea what it will become, I won't use it yet. I have a Magnemite & Pikachu, so no need for Jolteon (yet), Brionne so no need for Vaporeon or Sylveon (yet), Brionne or Vaporeon would render Glaceon redundant, and I couldn't get it until right before the E4 anyway. No interest in Leafeon or Flareon, especially with that nature. No need for Espeon, others can use Psychic moves. Might go Umbreon for all that bulk.

Muti will be a box mon for now, but if a spot opens up if one of my good ones dies, he'll be there.

I'm on a journey to nuzlocke every main game up to Sun and Moon, chronologically, and it has to be on the actual cartridges or the 3DS virtual console.

Just completed Blue for the first time, on the first try nonetheless. Ended up taking 20 hours. Still, a pretty tough run until you get past Koga and Sabrina, as there is really no easy way to grind before the Pokémon mansion.

Gen I is the easiest imho because there's so many good pokemon available and there aren't really strong trainers. There are also very good gift and event mons like snorlax if you allow yourself to use them. I once did a run of leaf green in which I couldn't buy pokeballs and I hardly noticed the difference.

Those two bitches are particularly nasty even for double battles tho. Not only there's a 10 levels gap since the previous plot event (meaning you're likely to reach them underleveled short of going through the whole eastern seas before fighting them), they also have an uncommonly clever setup. You don't usually expect the AI to play a sunny day team with all around coverage, it's nasty as fucking shit.

You should use the EXP Share because the game is built around it, BUT you should be following the Rotation Clause, in which you MUST use every Pokemon you catch and keep them within the same 1-2 level gap, where you're forced to keep ones out of your party if they get too far ahead.

Also don't underestimate the Nobility on Route 7 as a grinding spot for money and EXP

That's why you do forced rotation. Because it keeps you from being underleveled BUT it gives you a lot of options. You're only overleveled till before Grant and then you slowly start getting outpaced, because while your Pokemon start to get below level, it gives you more options for any situation AND it means you have to coordinate when you use what Pokemon to use so you don't end up going up against Clemont but unable to use your Ground Types because they're too high compared to everyone.

I don't know how to feel about the exp share/ no exp share debate, considering the level curve in recent games is pretty steep and removing the exp share doesn't really make the game harder on a "resource management" perspective but only requires you more time to not have an underleveled team. I'd say if you wanna add an extra layer of challenge to the game you should limit your ability to buy items and use pokemon centres more than lowering your team level.

my point against turning off the xp share is that you can recover the lost exp points by just grinding more. Limiting grinding requires the player to add another layer of self-imposed rules with very arbitrary parameters. If you're gonna add extra rules to the basic nuzlocke ones, at this rate you're better off limiting items and pokemon centres, which ups the challenge a fair bit while setting clearer limits (to me at least, "I can only use the pokemon centre X times per town" seems a lot easier to follow and apply than "I can't get over X level until I beat Y trainer".

That blows. Metagross is pretty boss in any nuzlocke run. I was able to catch Metang in W2, but Metang isn't going to kill itself with Take Down, so there's that. Never hurts to try.

that's actually a glitch, it happens if you visit Sevii islands 4-7 before the elite four, pushing the e4 to their postgame rematch levels. This is possible because with the national dex you can get the rainbow pass early. If you don't do it the e4 maxes out at 77

So when I did FRLG, and keeping in mind that I wasn't allowing items in battle, I got my whole team up to 57 before going in. Easy time, no deaths. Swept almost the entire Elite 4 themselves with a Starmie. One thing of note, I used a Pidgeot as well, and I found it to be completely useless against the Pokémon League.

If you're allowing items, 55 should be a safe level.

Victorious! The "elite" four paled in comparison to the master class that was Wallace. Bulbous was lose to his Gyarados, whom had Earthquake (Really?), and his Milotic took the lives of Stitch (Sableye), Roo (Breloom), and Eggman (Walrein, RIPIP my dude. You were amazing against Drake). Zapyatta cleaned up the mess and Baraciel was the one who dealt the final blow to Ludicolo, a fitting end as she was with me from the beginning.

Level 62 is still a long ways away. One thing that I really appreciate about Generation 5 and beyond; the Pokémon League is much closer in level to what came before it.

You can do Gen 6, both XY and ORAS, with some grinding but not too bad without Exp Share. I have no issue with using it in Sun and Moon though, there's really nowhere to grind and the level curve randomly jumps up at specific endgame points. That said, I wouldn't have it on the entire time - use it somewhat sparingly.

I miss guaranteed Lucky Eggs. Sun and Moon putting it postgame was a mistake.

I tried running sun recently, was easy up till the grass totem which killed half of my team with solar blade spam and I couldn't recover before the rival battle with the alolan raichu which sweeped my team. Surprisingly difficult and will likely go back to it in the future.

Just be sure to set up a rule before-hand about the routes as if you don't split them up you will fuck yourself out of a wide variety of pokemon. (Route 1 for example I split into 3 areas, seaside, route one proper and outside of the school)

Well then, you either have to get lucky or wait until Turnback cave. I mean, in the long run you won't have a Duskclops until Bryon and even if you're using it for defense, Cyrus' team has massive coverage for fucking ghost types up and he's the biggest threat you'll have before you next chance.

If you're worried about Maylene, you can easily have a Gengar by the time you fight her if you can trade, an even if you can't, Haunter still runs train on her for the most part.

Lost Raticate to Flannery and her stupid fucking Arcanine that knows Superpower
Switched in Ponyta only to have it die in the desert securing me a Gible
decided to grind almost endlessly to get to Garchomp

So I finished grinding my team up to lv 20 and Gyarados basically soloed Roxie with Bounce and Moxie. But Magnetmite did wall the Whirlipede so I'll give thim that. No deaths so feeling kinda confidant.

Random starters (basic with 2 evolutions)
Area 1-to-1 randomization, similar level or whatever it's called.
Rival carries starter through game
Type themed trainers (or don't randomize trainers if you prefer to know what you'll be facing), similar level
Change impossible evolutions (so you can evolve without trading)


Other stuff is up to you. I don't like to fuck with items (especially TMs) nor typing or abilities. I also usually turn off early wonder guard.
